WoW, i usually dont bud in because i know its pointless to argue with Brad & Co but i must say this really takes the cake, first they complain that: " You should show a little respect on the blogs you respond to. Every blog is moderated by the author of that blog. I don't have to put up with personal abuse from you. I can delete your comments." and "That's so incredibly patronizing. And foolish too. If I were as infantile as he apparently thinks I am then that would make him a
I think some of you have no idea how much you suck the fun out of doing these updates. You know, we did a helluva lot of other thigns to improve the game in 1.04 and you guys fixate because you can't trade tradegoods easily. A few polite posts explaining your position would have done plenty of good in us modifying it. But instead, it seems like abuse gets heaped onto us.
I am truly sorry to hear this, believe me. But IMHO this is not only caused by the commun

For the developer, direct download seems to be much prefered option. Look at the numbers, Gal Civs budget : 600k $ 10000 downloads a 40 $ : 400k $ Now compare that with the 5 - 10 $ they get from every retail sale. And as Code Monkey said, if we help the small guys so that they actually can get develop their product we'll have a much more diverse and original games out on the market. I just hope that they will go for the, games as applications model and c

Congratulations Brad & Company. I'm a bit disappointed that the direct sales has not been bigger for you guys though. Guess the online sale revolution is just not upon us yet. Thank you for the great support you guys have been giving us. I also have friends that have bought the game after playing the pirated version for a while. The upgrades were just to good ;). PS: There has been a bit less posts from devs on the forums of late, I hope this will change again ( E3 something to do with

If you read some of brads articles on avault and elsewere, he states somewhere that his vision is that games become more of less the way applications are on the internet. Small updates from time to time and then a little bigger one and you got yourself a new version ( which is then shippoed to retail ) i was wondering if he's doing that with this game ( and hoping ). /falafel

Hi, I just finished the great piece brad wrote on gamasutra ( have read through everything on avoult twice :) ). What cought my eye was that "GC2 would be developed if economically viable". From what i had read earlier i had gotten the picture that the idea of subscription was that when the year was up most people would renew it since they were continue to get added functions to their favorite game. Thus Stardock would get the money to develop GC further in advance from it's users. And

"nice debate btw" Sure is danny :). "Like I said, I was in a rush to get to work and didn't have time to emphasize my point enough obviously. The cold war was going on at the time, and the 2 superpowers had enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 10 times over. We supported south vietnam while russia suppoted the north. We supported Iraq," I have posted above what i think of viewing these actions in "context". "and I believe most of those weapons were dest

Hi sixtoes, wow, thats quite a massive post, and you just know that im not going to leave it alone dont you ;). "The thing to remember here is that journalists aren't there to express their opinions - that's what commentators are for... and newspaper editorials." So i guess in a talkshow where you bring up controversial subjects, then it's ok to say your piece, right ? As in, say , politically incorrect ?( incredible how much i know of americal internal politics isn't ). Lets f

The problems is Trevis, that i think your so cought in the mindset that nobody should get a free ride on your back that you cant see the obvious benefits of a different kind of society. Yes you do have some freeloaders, but instead of due to these few persons destroy the entire social net that is at the end constructed you protect YOU, you can easily remove the freeloaders buy requiring some sort of service for the payments. Then you have guarantied that nobody sleeps on the street if

I to like to have a nice debate as long as its civilized :). "No, there's a difference between what Peter Arnett did and what the opposing viewpoit does. Arnett basically went up to Saddam and congratulated him, syaing we failed in our objective. That is treason IMO." I have seen this interview and he does no such thing, what he did was pointing out something that was obvious to all parties involved at the time. But let us not get stuck at a single person, how about the latest

And into the debacle i go ;p. "There is a difference between propaganda and a free press. Hitler and saddam had one news source, and that source was only there to provide what the government said." Yes there is a difference, however, i wouldn't call it free press when people expressing views that are at odds with the main opinion gets fired when doing so or their privilages of visiting the pressroom gets withdrawn making their jobs impossible. One might even argue that this kin

While the game will cost a little more to buy here there will be a huge difference in the amount that goes directly to the developers. Judging from Brad Wardell ( frogboy ) articles, the difference might be as high as about 30$ for each sold game. Now what Brad is trying to do has to my knowledge never been done before. Trying to create and update a game similar to a utility software by continuing the development after it goes gold. The end result, if successful, would mean guarantied
