According to Stardock, the amount of time coding each AI is in the following order: Dregnin Arcean Altaran Torian Yor In my experience playing on Genius, the Arcean are typically the most difficult to beat. I think is mostly because they tend not to always be in a war like the Dregnin.

I was wondering if there are any changes planned to mid/late game AI. I've seen a bunch of posts, which I agree with, that state that the AI runs out of steam about the time of battleships/dreadnaughts. In my opinion this is mostly due to a lack of starbase management and poor choices of social structures. If the computer were building fully upgraded production/economic/culture SBs, the late game may be a much more interesting beast. Wouldn't it be incredible to see the computer buil
No problems with stability. Works great. I've only played one 'large' game on 'intelligent', so I can't give an definitive account, but the game seems easier. The recent change to make the minors easier to exploit may have gone too far. I was able to take 100/turn for 12 turns from all three of the minors with very early techs. This of course gave me the money to further increase research and thus I got more tech fast and you see where this is going.. I have every
On intelligent and above the computer knows how to use resource starbases pretty well. On all levels the AI has no idea how to use non-resource starbases. I was saying this 2 months ago. None of the developers felt that it was a big deal I guess. The computer also does a very poor job of defending star bases. This works greatly to my advantage since I generally will park a constructor next to every resource in the game. Eventually the computer will lose it and the resource will b
i find it strange that a couple people think that alliance wins are harder now. I was about to post that alliance wins have been made incredibly easier to get. In my last painful game I won with a 5 way alliance. Since tech is now valued so highly just give it away and watch your diplomatic relations skyrocket. I was able to be a tech broker through the mid game, keeping my spending at 100% which eventually let me out research everyone else. Once I was ahead in research spending, ge
Come on monkey, did someone piss in your corn flakes this morning? It's a bad patch. Brad just said he's gonna fix it. Chill out. It's not Staffa's fault that he figured out an effective way to win. That is kinda the point of the game.. winning.
It seems to me like Brad, etc al. is hearing what we are saying, but not understanding (or understanding, but unable to do it). Many people have been asking for a smarter AI. The computer does some really dumb things in some places. The thing is, most people didn't envision nerfing trade goods as the fix for a smarter AI. What I (possibly we) have been requesting since the beginning is better map management by the AI. Better use/defense of star bases. Better tactical manuevering
btw: Frogboy, don't take offense at my opinions. Although I may have come off a bit harsh in my previous statement, I do really enjoy this game. Like everyone else here, I'm just trying to help you guys make it better.. which in the end will sell more copies making you a richer man. :) The ironic thing is that I'm also a developer and there is also a board for my programs. Enterprise software, so totally different, but I know what it's like to see your software trashed on a board..
Ok. Apparently I'm wrong. I still don't understand how, but I'm willing to listen. So I'm upping the difficulty to cripling from painful. I started a game last night like this and so far it appears to be following the formula, just faster. I only played for 1 hour though, so I'll stick to it and see what happens.
Viable as the trigger to end the game? yes. Viable as the real reason you won? not really. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand, it's quite simple. Here it is one more time in simple terms: The game places too much value on military might right now. If you don't have a strong military, you can't stay out of war. When a computer is deciding when to go to war, it appears to do something like: How do I view this race? Is my military stronger? Are they
Pilot, That may be true, but just reading the boards once a day would have given them the exact same information. If the Metaverse can really be used to improve the game, I'm all for that. However, like many complex systems, the interaction between modding and the metaverse was not completely thought through. Isn't it a bit odd that to this day there is no official guideline on what is an 'admissable' mod to use when submitting your score? Don't you think it's a bi
I've never built a battlehammer, battlecruiser, or starhawk. I usually skip over rangers to avatars also. For all these ships, I just don't see how their stats justify their cost.
I'm confused.. are these posts in the correct thread? What on earth does CNTL-N have to do with the computer not knowing how to build starbases, get anomalies, and ask for more reasonable things when demanding tribute? Frogboy: I'm a little taken aback by your comment. I understand you have pride in the game, but you have to admit that the starbase code is not very strong. To suggest that my issues would be fixed by not letting people restart the game doesn't make sense. Just for y
It doesn't work for me either, but honestly I think the whole idea behind the metaverse is flawed. Hopefully they'll get rid of it. You can't have a moddable game and have a central repository for scores. I believe this is why there are hardly any mods that do anything except add events into the game. I'd much rather have more mods (check a look at civ 2 if you want an example of a modding success) than my scores recorded on a website.
Preface: I play on intelligent and I've played about 10 - 15 games at this level on huge maps. I've read a number of threads and talked to some other people who play the game and it appears that a lot of people are coming to the same conclusion: There is a tightly defined formula for winning Gal Civ. This formula is esentially, 1) expand like crazy 2) research straight to dreadnaught 3) build up military to at least par with the next strongest civ 4) si
pavemint: From what I understand of version 1.04, your first strategy is about to be nerfed. That's an exploit in the game. Depending upon your relative military strength, the AI on higher levels will respond to the second tactic. My tip is related to trade. Trade is a very strategic resource in this game. It does the obvious (gives you money), but more importantly it give the civ you are trading with an equivalent amount of money. Trade with civs who you don't want to attack
Why are all the % number for the starting gov types different that what is displayed in the UI (1.0.3A)? Are all these numbers changing in 1.0.4 or is the UI incorrect?
BTW: I know this is the setting that Brad typically plays with. I doubt it is broken.
Anecdotally, I chose Federalists + 10% more econ during my current game and I have so much money I can't spend it all. So it does appear to do something.. I didn't actually get out my calculator and track the number though.
This is related to a bunch of other threads that have been going on.. the alliance peace cheese tactic among them. Carielf has said that he's working on it, hopefully this will be addressed at the same time.
wow.. i used a triple negative in that last sentence. My powers over the English language are incredible.. hehe.. let me put that another way. It only makes sense if there is at least one level where the AI is turned up as good as they can make it, but still isn't cheating. Currently you have to deal with cheating AI to get that.
Code Monkey is correct. I saw that too... the full 'Nasty AI' only kicks in on Genius. I was a bit bitter about that too, but I think they are trying to debug it or something.. Eventually I'm sure they will roll this into the Intelligent AI for all races. It makes no sense to not give us a level where the computer is at full strength and still not cheating.
I've never seen cloaking actually work. Enemy Phoenix and Rangers cruise around uncloaked all the time. I'm not sure if it's totally broken or so poorly documented that no one has a clue how to use it (even the AI.. hehe).
err.. billions per year, not turn.
