I don't think this petition is worthy of signing. What you are asking for is already elegantly implemented with waypoints. You can create any patrol route of any complexity or length desired just by shift-clicking your patrol destinations in sequence. Furthermore, as anecdotal evidence, the #2* use of waypoints for me is to manage my scouts and ensure they give me as much reconnaissance as possible for my credits. Your scouts should never be sitting idle in a grav well. (* #

I think he is talking about cruise missiles... you could make them in GalCiv1, and they were good for taking out expensive ships. The missiles were basically high-speed, high-attack, low-defense, low-cost ships that were consumed when they attacked (like a transport). They weren't useful against planets, they could only attack ships.
To the original poster, I would submit the argument that Linguistics and Cognitive Science give us a wealth of information that every member of homo sapiens is innately provided with the genius of language, semantic differentiation, and the use of semiotics. Furthermore, the work done in this field by Chomsky and so many others quite amply demonstrates that abusing other people because their use of language does not conform to your specific, and arbit
The Ur-Quan Masters is an open source distribution of the 3DO star control 2. Anyone can download it and have a blast in modern Windows: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
Ah, looks like you found your sysadmin. I have to admit I was tempted, but ultimately didn't submit a cv because I could never get my wife to move away from the east.
Holy Moly! I go away for a few weeks to focus on work and my writing, and when I come back my humble G.R.O.S.S.ers have TAKEN OVER THE METAVERS!! WAY TO GO GUYS! I think I'll be waiting to play again until the expansion pack, myself. Milking the game took a lot of the fun and replayability out for me... now I have to let me "batteries recharge", so to speak. And next time I'll gladly be playing for fun, with whatever score that comes with it. Peace, and long
Hi Pontius! Sorry I've been out of the loop, work is demanding lately. My 1.04beta gigantic genius evil game is progressing. I had a wonderfully lucky start, which helped me to annihilate the Yor before battleships. I should finish it up soon and post the score. March on G.R.O.S.S. patriots!
EB I didn't know you very well, and I'm still not sure what the drama is about, but I wish you the best of luck! Never let those filthy non-human scum bring you down!
I think you're on to something with the "beginning of the tech" notion... Now that I remember a little more I recall that my playing behavior is usually to wait until the current tech is researched. Then after I've chosen a new tech I go and adjust my sliders to precisely what it seems I'll need to finish that tech from start to completion. This makes the process a little less tedious and helps me guide my economic development more closely. Money is king in this game, there's
There is in fact a considerable contractual obligation on the developer's part to not undercut the publisher (in this case it would have been Stardock undercutting Strategy First). Retail channells become agitated and upset when they find out that their precious shelf-space is being taken up with an expensive game that can be had for far cheaper direct from the source. Hence the mark-up. But seeing as how it contributes to Stardock's bottom line that was acceptable to me. Wha
EBZero, what's going on? I must be out of the loop somewhere... In other news, here's my gameplan for this weekend's next Gigantic game: * Gigantic map * Painful difficulty (Intelligent AI) * Abundant planets * Tight clusters * Federalist Party * +1 Speed, rest in luck and econ I plan to shoot for a tech victory as fast as possible, with a simultaneous goal of maximum population. I will not attempt to drag this game out though... seems to have hur
I find that the following behavior sequence will "force" the research screen to accurately update it's time remaining bar: A) Open up the research tab and make sure it's on the desired tech, note remaining turns B) Close the menu and return to in-game map C) Re-open menu and go to domestic tab, adjust sliders as necessary D) Close the menu and return to in-game map E) Re-open menu and go to research tab; observe new research spending accurately reflected in time remainin
Sorry... ICQ is all that I can easily get to work through my company's firewall. But I can also use IRC as necessary, and I watch the thread. So when you desire an IRC chat do post and I'll join when I can. ;p
We would neeeever do aaaaanything to go against the wiiiishes of the Sennnnnate
Please don't leave on account of me, EBZero... I actually am a workaholic and don't get to frequently play. So I score high but my contribution will grow slowly. So much drama! If anyone wants to reach me feel free to at: ICQ #64273320 [email protected]
Post final thought: I am also of the position that if G.R.O.S.S. changes it's empire name I will reluctantly withdraw my membership. Simply having the name has drawn my wife into the game, and now I can count on her to expertly hit the space bar when tens of billions of lives are at stake.
Finally... if I'm going to keep playing these huge games to add to our great Empire's score, shouldn't I be a senator? LOL
A couple of tips from this latest game (only really pertains to the largest maps): * It's not worth it to lease an extra Survey ship at the beginning. I used to do so, but since the AI is retarded when it comes to harvesting space junk it's easier to just tech up to StarHawks, build a few, and then build some rangers in the end as necessary. Especially the extra soldiering anomalies are helpful when you're going to be dealing with large battles. * Colonization is utterly impo
I have just finished and submitted my latest gigantic game. The Glorious Terran ConFed achived a morality of Demonic (0) before the battleship era! Game Setup: * Gigantic * Abundant Planets * Tight Clusters * Evil races on Bright, Good & Neutral on Intelligent * All victory modes turned off save for Conquest I had an usually lucky start and was able to colonize nearly an entire quadrant before running into the Arcaens. I had to sacrifice early game de
An update from the War Of Terror: We have re-seeded a new gigantic galaxy and are busily conquering our local quadrant. I expect another fantastic pure evil game victory some time tomorrow, resplendent and complete with tasty skin fries and Yor organic paste.
In reference to post #15 by Feargus I can confirm that behavior from my own in-game experience. The game will attack sequentially based on orbit position (left to right in the ship screen) IF the ships involved are not in a fleet. So if you want your ships to defend each other they MUST band together in a fleet. The exception to this is AMM... keep them always behind the front a bit and don't stack them; part of the cost of their power is extreme vulnerability. As such they require a
I will gladly join your evil brotherhood. I'm so evil I deliberately play huge galaxies with abundant planets just so I have MORE people to conquer. While I have yet to accumulate 5 pure evil games, I still ask for senatorship on the grounds that my pager is firing > 100 times a day the last few weeks. I continue to spread evil and fear amongst the users of my servers... and will bring this energy back to GalCiv when the time is ripe. PS: I bumped G.R.O.S.S. up to #17! GO EV
Add another vote for global launch... from a design standpoint it makes consistent sense to me. We already have a global military construction queue ability, that should tie in to a global launch capability. Point being that when you have your whole empire cranking constructors you want them to launch! And when you are cranking out defensive ships you DON't want them to launch!
The game runs beautifully on my P4-mobile 2.0Ghz laptop (1GB DDR RAM). I never ever have to wait for the AI!
I'd like to voice a complaint here too... I've got a 1.5mbps pipe capable of 150 kB/s sustained and about 200 kB/s burst. I'm barely managing 20 kB/s with the California server and it keeps stalling. It took me several tries to realize that the "Download & Archive" option won't resume; very very frustrating. It might be a good idea to widely publish the fact that only the "Install" option will resume. Based on reading some of your posts, Frogboy, I had assumed that it would be easy t
