And by the way, I recommend disabling the sound as much as possible, as it tends to crash. Aside from that, the game runs very smoothly ! No slowdown at all ! By the way, Galciv puts a 99% load on the CPU, so it probably requires a good kernel scheduler. Personnally, I have a 2.6 kernel patched with Con Kolivas's patchset. [Message Edited]
HARDWARE ACCELERATION in order to get HW accel for Galciv, you need to be running a 16 bpp desktop. If your desktop has 24 bpp, you don't get HW accel. Note that it seems that this can't be solved by tweaking the WineX config file. You have to setup your desktop to 16bpp (that is, 65k colors). You can do this either using a GUI tool, or by directly editing you X11 config file.

Hi I'm configuring Galciv on a linux-only machine. So far, AFAIK, all successful attemps to run galciv on linux have been relying on windows installations. The Galciv staff has helped me very kindly (thanks Kris and Cari !) but I still need to edit the registry. I've tried to do it by hand, and it has allowed me to run galciv.exe, but it crashes systematically at 28% whenever I launch a game. nope .... always the same error, at the end of the SDC installation : "could not find the external program explorer.exe" something amazes me : why is it looking for explorer.exe, whereas IE's program name is iexplore.exe ? BTW IE 6 SP1 works fine on my computer (er, I mean, it works as fine as you can hope from IE) I have tried to run the SDC installer by simulating Windows 98 or Windows XP, but this hasn't made any difference. do you have an idea ?

Hi one year ago, I was under windows and I bought GalCiv for download through SD central. I liked it a lot. In the meanwhile I've switched to linux (no dual-boot). Now I'd like to use my Galciv account to play under linux through wineX. The problem is that SD central doesn't work at all under linux (it's based on internet explorer). Ok thanks for the info, I was still looking for a hidden Submit button on the summary screen ;)... Anyway that doesn't solve my problem ... They should change the way GalCiv detects whether there's a connection. Or they should make a 'retry' button. As I said, I have the same problem with IE but IE lets me Retry and then in works. The most weird thing in this story is that SDC has no problem at all. So the problem would certainly be solved by copy-pasting some code from SDC into GalCiv
I don't even see any 'Submit' button ! When I win, I see the civ overview&graphs, then I click on 'Done' and it takes me back to galciv's main menu.

I have the same question ! More specifically : 1) I'm sure my connection works because I have IE and Stardock Central logged in the background 2) When I end my game, it doesn't allow me to submit my score 3) When, from galciv's main menu, I click on 'Metaverse', IE claims it can't connect and lets me choose between 'Work offline' and 'Retry'. If I click on Retry it works fine - I see the metaverse, but my score is not there...
