Buy - You pay a one time fee and get a warranty. Get a decent brand that doesn't go belly up in a year. A good Motorola or D-Link should cost about $65. Look about and you're sure to find a sale. Talk to your cable techs and find out what brands they recommend and what is best suited to work with your particular service and go from there. The tech I talked to at my service recommended a particular Motorola Surfboard. I bought it and have had no trouble for the last year and a half. <
Please, please, please don't punish a mod.
Yeah, wait until 'Punish a Mod Week' ... ...there is a week for that ..right? Any of the programs mentioned can be useful if you remember not to 'let them do all the work' and put in some effort to make something not only original but that shows some imagination. ;)

You can get Deskscapes [link="http://dream.wincustomize.com/"] here [/link] Dreams require the user to have Windows DreamScene installed (part of the Windows Vista Ultimate Extras) and Stardock DeskScapes.

Here's a couple of things I've got on the burner. First is a mockup of a future Windowblind. Second will probably be a Sysmetrix clock that just needs a few final touches.

Looking good, Po! :HOT: messiah, I gotta figure out how you're using the textures on those Dock backgrounds without 'em getting all distorted when you zoom 'em :)

I use RC and OD+. RC gets used most for the apps I use a lot because it's so convenient ... usually don't have to move the mouse, just right click and then it's a short trip to the shortcut I want ... hmmm ... is that lazy or what  I use OD+ mostly for the tabs which make it easy to group related items. I also use several docklets.

It would help if you could post an image of a mockup of what you have in mind. As far as Stylebuilder, I doubt many people here use it ... preferring Skinstudio ... but there are a few ex 'stylers' here that could possibly steer you in the right direction ... :)
