Hi, I was reporting trouble with crashes on startup. It seems that my gfx card was already in the process of dying and that must have caused the crashes. I replaced it with a new GeForce 6600GT and I have not had crashes since. Sorry for the false alarm, Markus

Also not a bad idea to check to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card. AFAIK Catylyst 5.3 is the latest ATI driver at the moment. I just upgraded last week when I first installed Galciv2. I don't think I will risk thrasing my installation anymore. I thinks it is better to wait for a late b

Now it doesn't crash on startup anymore. It starts up fine but none of the buttons has any text. I guessed that the topmost button must be for starting a new game and clicked the bottom right button on the following screens. After a bit of loading it badly crashed my machine. (Video seems to be dead, monitor goes to stand by because it loses the signal. Otherwise the machine seems to be alive but I see no other option but to shut it down.) Sy

I was havin' that problem then updated to DirectX 9C it didn't work at all with DirectX 9B. I already had DirectX 9c. Today I upgraded to Catalyst 5.3 but it does not make a difference. When I try to start it the screen goes blank and it immediately crashes. Maybe its an Athlon 64 problem because I have DEP en

I updated to the latest ATI drivers to see if that would help here as well. Unfortunately it stil crashes with the same crash dump.

I think I have the same problem. I'm going to install smart exception to verify this. Edit: seems to be a different problem but it also crashes everytime I try to start it. Never mind, I just found out what was wrong. Aparently Stardock Central can no longer download when I have Proxomitron (a filtering HTTP-Proxy) active. I think it is rather stupid that SD Central uses IE proxy settings when no different settings are specified. At least it should give an option to connect without using a proxy. ~SDC~

I cannot download the latest patch either. Yes, I have registered my copy in Stardock Central and downloaded all the previous patches through it. When I want to update a popup shows up saying the the update failed and it offers to view the install log. Guess I should not have updated Stardock Central. It seems to get worse with every patch... ~SDC~

The last couple of versions always crashed on me when I tried to read the forum with it. I also has SDCentral crashing today while it was updating itself. I haven't seen SDCentral run stable on my machine for months. :(

I chose another way to get rid of a powerful Drengin reasearch base in a recent game: I gathered a couple of constructors and dreadnaughts near it and sold some of the dreadnaughts to the enemies of the Drengin. At first they just moved them somewhere else. When I tried again they got the message and destroyed the base. :)

Thanks. I will try some mods anyway and don't submit those games to the Metaverse. It would be nice if they integrate some mod support into the game so that you could select a set of rules when you start the game. Then the game could even submit the score if you played standard rules or just the game data for improving the AI if diferrent rules were used. Maybe they do something like that in the expansion pack. How do you manage your mods? By saving and restoring the data directory?

@AIL.ST I don't think this applies when you order directly from Stardock. They are not in German legislation and don't need to care about this new law. And I don't think that you can't be blamed either because the one who make the restricted stuff available to kids is the one who violates the law. But IANAL. @BigBadger How are Empire scores calculated? If they do averages then your are better off if I don't join your empire. :)

I agree with you on the importance of good parenting. And to come back to the original topic: There is absolutely so reason why GalCiv should even come close to being banned in Germany. Sadly it hasn't even been published here as far as I know. I also have not seen reviews of the game in the local games magazines. And now back to the game.... ~SDC~

As was mentioned before sometimes an event like the shooting in Erfurt puts pressure on politicians to do something. They decided to blame video games for this. I don't know enough about the gameplay in Blitzkrieg. One of the issues with C&C was that you are ordered to attack civilians. Do those other games feature something similar?

If Paradox had been more clever they would have looked at what happened to previous games (Castle Wolfenstein and Panzer General come to mind). Then they could have easily avoided any trouble. Actually the opposite of what you say is true. There is a lot of awareness of last centurys history. Anyone who has been to Germany for a while can tell you that.

The "ban" only means that the game cannot be advertised anymore and it can only be sold to adults. From what I have read about the game nobody is at a great loss anyway if he misses out on that game. I think it is funny that mostly Americans misunderstand such stories and blame Germany for lack of freedom. On the other hand very few Americans seem to worry about what freedoms they really have today. Just thinking about Patriot Act 1+2... America, The land of the free - thos

Great work HawaiiFive-O! I can't wait to try your program. Unfortunately I won't have time before the weekend. What about the metaverse? Is there some guideline of what you can add without being considered a cheater when you submit to the metaverse? An additional SB module would be available to the AI as well but would it recognize and use it?

I usually try to sell them some of my trade goods for cash. I try to have an invasion fleet ready so I can get to system if one of the AIs decides to declare war on them. When they appear close to or within enemy territory I invade them asap. Especially when I try to win by culture it is very nice to gain a foothold in enemy territory.
