Why the blazes should Stardock yield? The IP is theirs, they paid for it. If P&F had wanted it, they should have taken Brad up on his offer.
I think he was talking about the SC2 aliens/lore specifically, not the SC trademark.
So what more would they need to do now? They’d need to license the Star Control IP they want to use (which we’d do for free), transfer Ghosts of the Precursors to us (just the name) as its notoriety is entirely based on having used the Star Control mark and go make their game. They could even call it Ur-Quan Masters II (i,e, we’d transfer the mark to them).
This seems

It doesn't matter if they were tied up to Activision at the time. The circumstances just didn't favor them. Bottom line, Stardock has the mark, not P&F.
2) A DMCA not

I have a question. After reading through this thread, I've learned Stardock won't (or can't?) take down UQM since it is not engaged in commerce. Does the same also apply if the UQM project was actually named "Starcontrol 2: The Ur-Quan Masters"? I am curious because it seems scrapping the SC mark from its title seems to have done NOTHING per Stardock's perspective.

I've been quietly reading this thread and others like it on other forums that Elestan posts on. When this fiasco began, I was leaning more towards Stardock's side. When P&F's counterclaim was made public and seeing their arguments and exhibits, I began shifting to their side. Stardock's filing of trademarks for all relevant names in the SC1-2 games further pushed me to P&F's side (and perhaps angered me personally to a fault). But I still keep reading and try to be open minded as poss

Combine this with their Copyright Fascism, and the limits of human sentience, and it can't be unseen. Even if the impact is little, anyone who notices these optics will think less of the 2, if only slightly, because it has obvious negative associations.
I'm sorry, but I'm lost. What exactly do you mean by "optics" and "HIS name"?<

I don't think Stardock has gained anything positive by filing trademarks for the SC1-2 aliens but it definitely has soured my view of the company. By the way, I notice you call Reich by his name just fine, but have this fierce vitriol against Fred. Would you care to elaborate? I haven't seen them individually take stances on the issue on different intensities - both of them pretty much echo each other - so if there's an underlying issue I'm unaware of, I'm curious to know what, if you

This (and a few other statements in your post) are presented as statements of fact (and maybe they are...I dunno), but they're really the very core subject that this legal dispute is revo

For now, I have no reason to believe the exhibits presented in both parties' claims aren't genuine. (However, their interpretation of the exhibits is certainly an entirely different thing.) But particularly speaking about the GoG-Atari email thread with P&F, allegations this was faked is far-fetched unless P&F are willing to risk their entire case on a simple phone call by the opposing party to GoG or Atari (or what remains of it today) confirming if these emails took place. I am genuinely excited for this. Keep up the good work! Edit: I just noticed - the Dreadnought and Eluder replicas are still in the background of the Tywom comm screen. I'm bracing for the captain to make a "what're THOSE??" speech option.

I am genuinely excited about Origins despite what's happening behind the scenes. I want a Star Control game in whatever shape or form AND I want a continuation to the Ur-Quan story. I think both games can easily coexist when both sides agree on their respective boundaries and, most importantly, if both sides practice empathy .

So how can you reconcile what they say and what they do?
I already posted this a few pages back but claiming #4 has made irreparable damage from the onset is questionable since you did originally reference GotP as a "true sequel to Star Control 2" yourself in the GotP thread in this forum and later corrected the self-inf

Well, that escalated quickly. To me this was just all bad timing. The timing of the Ghosts announcement falling so close to SCO's closed beta remains questionable. It isn't a stretch to think that the fact that Brad has been giving them regular SCO updates wet their appetite and inspired them to move their asses and finally create the game they've been procrastinating to do for years. Which is well within their legal bounds and not necessarily unethical. This only became

I think the argument of whether or not PR&FF were the creators of SC1-2 can be easily solved by evidence and testimony from the team that developed both games. Greg Johnson already made his (assuming the guy that posted wasn't an impostor) and many others could come forward and provide insight into the creation of the games some 25 years ago. As for evidence, I think PR&FF can easily provide this. However, legally (and IANAL, to borrow Elestan's acronym) the creator title is u

Browsing through the bluesnews comments I stumble upon a quote from Frogboy after the GotP announcement. It seems even he called GotP a true sequel to SC2 UQM then:
Recently, Paul told me the good news: Activision was going to let him do a true sequel to Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters (i.e. Star Control III is not canon for that universe). <em style="color: #ffff

I think demanding to remove Super Melee from SCO was a bit too much. Owning the SC trademark without Super Melee is like owning a car without an engine. PR obviously is pretty adamant at keeping all aspects of UQM exclusively theirs. I wouldn't be surprised if that was an emotional decision on their part. But Stardock did rename SCO's Super Melee to "Fleet Battles" is that correct? As for SC2 ship replicas, aka "mods", I think they're wasting their time there. In general, I'm particul

This looks really good! I can't wait to be able to visit planets and launch landers down to the surface. I would've wanted a much more realistic planet overview though, like in SC2. Your only knowledge whether or not the surface is nice is indicators like technotics / hotspots. I liked that if you miss those indicators and launch your landers, you're going to have the surprise of your life when your lander is met with an incredibly hostile environment on the surface and you scramble t
