Thanks for clearing things up about the trademark. I was so confused about it prior to your post. I'm especially keen on noticing PR's wording and refusal to divulge critical info that Stardock was entering into a bad deal with Atari. But who could blame PR when Brad repeatedly stated that Stardock would not touch SC1-2 aliens and the Ur-Quan lore - the only difference being Stardock's perspective was out of respect for PR&FF (which was noble, albeit misinformed) while PR&FF k

I just spent an hour reading through both parties' formal complaints/counter-claims, and one thing stuck out to me. Stardock's complaint had a huge gap between 1999 and 2013: Stardock basically says no expiry ever happened, and that they own everything from the Starcontrol trademark to the copyrights of the classic games. This knowledge gap between 1999 to 2013 is understandable since all events that transpired during

(Fall 2017) Stardock asks that they coordinate these announcements together ensure there is no confusion. Stardock asks, multiple times, to set up a phone call so that they can "brainstorm" a win-win solution. Paul and Fred decline.
but honestly, beyond that, P&F haven't done anything in the Star Control universe for a very long time and their sudden activity now seems somewhat disingenous.
I believe they tried several times to pitch a sequel to SC2 to Activision, but failed (?).
Q: What does Stardock want out of this lawsuit? Is your goal to put Paul and Fred out of business? A: Our ONLY goal is to protect our ability to tell more stories in the Star Control multiverse. We remain fans of Paul and Fred and their contributions to Star Control. However, given the confusion they’ve created in the market by promoting their new game as
Not interested enough to read the entire thread, but I find it disgusting that this has devolved into a legal battle which potentially will be problematic for both the new games in development. If I hadn't already founded, I would certainly waited before putting money down at this point.
Problematic and costly most definitely. Considering this series was put in limbo for several years, I doubt demand is that
In their new blog post they are drawing a strawman from the statement that Paul & Fred didn't create the classic games. I am saddened to see lawyers taking over to broadcast official statements for Stardock that totally discredit Paul & Fred.
Are you saying they didn't contact you about taking down SC1-3 from Steam?
Inspired by DBZ's Cell and bewbs
Too bad that F&P's camp isn't receptive to that phone call yet, but I hope both parties will settle out of court in the near future if not as soon as possible. Keep those phone lines open. :)
Youtube channel Pretty Good Games has now started covering the legal woes over Star Control. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xHy2MuFIzU By the way, how do you pronounce Paul's last name "Reiche". They were all over the place with its pronunciation.
I haven't posted for the longest time, but just wanted to throw my 2/100,000 of a cent in. I love Star Control I and II, and most like everyone else here, those games are part of their childhood. As much respect I have for Paul and Fred for making the games, I find it a dick move for them to be doing this NOW .
Without actually seeing the legal documents involved in all of this, nobody really knows what the actual situation is. Unfortunately, this is sounding too me like a situation where even when the actual lawyers see those documents, even they can't agree what the actual situation is. At least that is how this sounds too me. If that is the case, Stardock might want to take a page out of my fathers play book... if even the la

I just hope both parties consult with their lawyers and clear this whole mess up as soon as possible. Lest they get dragged into a possible pro-Stardock or pro-ToysforBob movement on the internet further fanning their tempers/ At this point, it's clear ToysforBob only wants Stardock to stop selling SC1-3. New blog post from Fred and Paul: https://dogarandkazon.squarespace.com/blog/2017/12/4/star-control-i-ii-and-iii-arent-for-sale-on-gogcom-any-more-how-come I knew it. It was the inclusion of the classic games on Steam that infuriated them. I am absolutely confused as to what exactly is owned by Stardock. Just the Star Control
The wrap around map of SC2 is a type of barrier, and the last thing it feels like when you teleport from one side to the other is "natural". It does feel as though you have more freedom, but it also feels strange and doesn't work anywhere near as well as a barrier/wall/arena. You have to do something to make it work as a game, an open map with no containment doesn't work for a lot of different reasons. <br
Shows the Accolade-Atari deal followed by Atari-Stardock deal to acquire the rights to Star Control were a confusing mess. Even the direct parties involved are confused. Based on their post, they want two things: A guarantee (perhaps on paper) that they can pursue GotP without any interference/permission from Stardock Stardock to stop selling the classic Star Control games. (why now after 4 years?) <span style="color: #4242
I think they're pissed when SC1 and SC2 and SC3 began appearing on Steam's store as of late, especially at the height of the SC:O beta cycle. What exactly is in that contract when Stardock acquired the Star Control trademark, etc? Seems like you guys need to have a long talk about this. It's a shame they felt they needed to have their contentions aired out it public. If this doesn't get solved quick, it's the fans that are going to suffer.
Yep. I initially thought it was a good idea, but after playing for awhile I realize I don't like it. I don't like the idea of being chased by the bully Battlecruiser inside a caged arena. It feels very constricting for fast moving ships. Add the fact that once the camera zooms in, you won't know if you're headed straight into the asteroid wall.
Have you already done this? Right click "Star Control - Origins" Click Properties Click Beta tab Enter the beta access code, click "Check Code" button right next to text field Restart Steam Repeat steps 1 to 3 Select "closedbeta" from drop down menu Beta should begin downloading Your steam library should look like this afterwards: <a href="https://imgur.com/a/vZUZ7" target="_blank" rel
Mowling Ship's Laser / Beam Carver is pitiful. There's no reason to get into close quarters combat with that thing. It takes forever to kill any ship. They should model the weapon's damage to the VUX or the Chmmr laser.
As for combat, my main issues are as follows. The gravity well, the edge of the map and the asteroids. The gravity well needs to be a little bit bigger and tweaked for slingshot maneuvers and using the planet as a shield to increase gameplay options. At the moment the asteroids in the beta are just frustrating. I am not a fan of the damage you receive when colliding with them. Yes I know that this is more realistic, but it isn't fun. There are
I'll try using a controller. Nope. The controller is worse than the keyboard. Then again, I'm not really into controllers
It's always been a Star Control thing to use the left and right arrow keys to aim (or 'A' and 'D' in SC:O's case), but I feel this aiming scheme is outdated since the original games were released when PC gaming was predominantly 'keyboard only'. That said, I'd like to ask if mouse aiming is something you guys are planning to include? i.e. Right Click turns ship to wherever the mouse pointer is (and remap the ship special ability to another button, Spacebar perhaps). Of course, th
