To Maiden's point about piling on the loser, the weariness effect should be less for defensive losses than for offensive losses. That would make some sense, as it is always more difficult to justify a costly invasion than to justify losses incurred in defending your turf.

If you play with Mega Events, expect them to completely f*&& with things. Galciv 1 had all kinds of bizzaro mega-events that were just part of the game, and they routinely turned the universe upside down. If they are not to your taste, turn them off.
+1. Interpreting what is a DoW vs. what is an idle threat is like talking to my wife. JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU MEAN.
I frickin' love the idea of robots having no war weariness, and Drengin having peace weariness. See, what a great mechanic! It further differentiates the races in logical and significant ways!
As the Terrans, I am in a war with the Drengin. I conquer a planet. Billions die. I conquer another planet. Billions die. That planet is reconquered by the Drengin. Billions die. The gameplay effect of this massive tragedy is a gaping "meh." Sure, my production dips a little on the planets contributing the soldiers, but that's not exactly the kind of thing you feel in your gut. The deaths of billions, particularly when you l
+1 for the suggestion to go back to the Galciv2 approach, or at least rebalance the economy so it presents the same expansion constraints that Galciv2's economy did. In GC1 and 2 your economy started out broken and in deficit, and the early game was a race against time to get it up and running before you ran out of your starting credits. It was a fun and interesting approach that was unique to Galciv. Now the early game is a pure expansion rush. That's fine and
Gal Civ II let you obsolete ship types so they didn't appear in your shipyard or designer. I don't see a similar option in Gal Civ III. Am I missing something?
I kind of like this solution.
So what does it mean when a bonus tile gives, say, +2 pop for structures built on top of it?
Thank you!
What does population do? What stats does it affect? How does it affect those stats? And where can I find answers to such simple questions? It's not in the "manual", or any other resource I could find. Thanks in advance!
What's the mechanic behind the caravan food bonus? How much food? Does it depend on where you send the caravan? Is this documented somewhere?
My wife won't let me invest in a good computer. Still, I feel that I deserve to play this game. And I'm able to play the strategic portion on the cloth map (just as I play GalCiv2 in the zoomed out map). But I think I am missing way too much by having to autoresolve all the tactical battles. I would be *super* happy if there were an option for a basic, chessboard tactical battle that completely skimped on the graphics. Thanks!
I'm playing on a much crappier machine. I'm sticking with the cloth map, but even then it's still a struggle.
Err . . . how do you ask them to marry you?
I would like sensor upgrades to represent more than increased range. I would like the option to have alien ships displayed without their statistics until they are either scanned by an appropriate scanner, or until they are observed in combat or engaged in combat by my forces. This uncertainty would make battles very exciting.
Hi! Glad to see someone posting. I love Galciv, but it sucks that all the posts are from 2003-2005 >:(
I only played it when it first came out, and was very disappointed. My biggest gripe was that the AI was completely incapable of mounting a military campaign. I'm going to dl the patches and try again. People say it's better... ~SDC~
I had something similar happen, Norin. Only difference was that everyone had Rangers and I got a Corvette :notsure: ~SDC~
*Colonies First, Resources Second, Everything Else Third* You should begin every game going balls-to-the-wall to grab all available colonies, then all available resources. Forget social or research until you've snagged all that you can grab. In larger galaxies, of course, you will have to start a *little* research before all land is grabbed. ~SDC~
I find that I do real well if, during the colony rush portion of the game, I lower taxes down to about 30%. I've done this twice, and have dashed out to a population lead both times. Of course, I had the 15% Planet Quality bonus too, which certainly had an effect... ~SDC~
I had a Ranger on autopilot headed to an undefended frontier planet of mine. Before it got there, the planet was invaded and conquered. My Ranger nonetheless proceeded to orbit that planet, then apparently defected. The end result was that the Drengin had MY Ranger (still with the Human Ranger graphics), which it used to further kick my ass. I was unhappy about that. ~SDC~
I'm on the PQ bandwagon. 9 points to that, then do whatever you want with the remaining 1. ~SDC~
I've only played on medium or smaller maps, and there is always plenty of action. So maybe it's the large map? ~SDC~
