Yeah I feel the same way. The Civ series has a really nice tech tree that exposes all the details you need to know as a player without forcing you to go outside the game to find them.
I'd like to see a more complete in-game tech encyclopedia (descriptions of the planetary upgrades, ships, etc. - same as Civ 3's encyclopedia) I was all pumped up about the free expansion because of the Civ-style encyclodpedia, but I was pretty bummed when I discovered that it only describes the techs but none of the structures and ships that you get with them.
I know it's been said, but I'd like to say it again - it would be really nice to have hyperlinks in the research screens that show you what you're getting. The names of various techs, buildings and ships isn't enough. Civ 3 and MoO 2 both do this very nicely... ;)
