Hello all, just saw this game. MOM is one of my favorite old games and Age of Wonders got at but didn't really scratch the itch. I enjoy 4x games but they aren't my passion for a variety of reasons. From reading, this could be a grail game. Of course it'd have to come out just right which we know may not happen... that said, my number one desire in terms of game philosophy is this, and I'm really curious to hear the designers or others take on this. My big thing is preventing city spa

I don't know about cancelling routes if you find a better one--I was under the impression that the time the trade route has been in existence is a major factor in the return on a route. So that's another thing to consider. ~SDC~
Well, it all depends on relationships. I've had an almost impossible time in my experience trading for ships with any civ that is hostile to me--friendly similar alignment civs, on the other hand seem to be much more likely to trade this. So no, I don't think this is an exploit. ~SDC~
Yeah, I suppose if you have like no social improvements and focus only on military you could probably have higher limits. ~SDC~
I think the way to put all these arguments to rest sort of would be to make the AI give you better reasons why it's doing things and make things more transparent to the player. ~SDC~
That would be an interesting trade off--influence for UP vote chances. ~SDC~
...and it's not like your attempts at cultural domination went unnoticed either. I mean, the AI (though maybe not at subnormal...) can see what you're doing by placing starbases right next to all their territory and whatnot... ~SDC~
I find the game rewards militaristic play styles above all else as well... Obviously there should be elements of this but it does seem like it's difficult to get the other kinds of victories because if you waste resources on the other stuff you're just going to get attacked and beat on. ~SDC~

Yah, using all your resources and stuff on colony ships and then constructors seems excessive--I've started going colony ships and then a combo of military/constructors so that I'm not totally easy meat for the Drengin or whatever... ~SDC~
grrr. Yeah, this should be a pretty high priority fix IMO. ~SDC~
Thank you Lord Beefy, that is very illuminating. If anybody else has any tips, I'd like to hear them... specifically I'd like to know what you guys do with your sliders during expansion in the early game... or just your sliders throughout the game like Lord Beefy did... ~SDC~
To be fair to the reviewer, who, trying to stay objective, probably did not look through pre-release hype, it often seems like the computer is cheating heavily in the early game (colonization etc). Not that it makes it true, but I could easily see why he could think that. I still haven't beaten sub-normal AIs and it's tempting to think that they are cheating when they expand so fast. ~SDC~
Well, in the designers defense, the tradegoods ARE really powerful, so I think it's natural that the AIs want a lot for them... The only other thing I have observed is that I often get the announcement that many AIs have the "monopoly" on trade goods. I was under the impression that, like galactic wonders, they could only be produced once. Is that pop-up displayed even when the tradegood is traded to them? Or do I just have the wrong idea? ~SDC~
Yeah, I'm a newbie and I'm almost equally frustrated as the original poster. I played a cakewalk game and won it; actually I had pretty much won it when I quit. Since then I've been totally unable to defeat or even come into the same league as "sub-normal AIs." I think it all has to do with the rush for planets. In short, I get stomped and I'm behind the whole rest of the game, which is just absolutely not fun at all... Anyway, keep tips coming. Right now, I think my problem is tha
