Kryo, Blair, thanks for responding. Weekly news, or weekly views, general chat; we just want to know someone's alive in 'thar! It really is true, ongoing communication from the developer olympus is key to maintaining enthusiasm in the player base. But now I wish to discuss some things that we players can do. If only we had a New Pilot or Beginners forum section, people new to the game would feel more at ease posting their questions. And we could respond. You can also drop in o

Since you are asking, the brief answer is, " Please! No Diplomacy Expansion! " Tedious diplomacy will detract from the dynamic flow of the game. Adding Diplomacy is a step backwards towards turn-based strategy that really doesn't fit what is essentially a smoothly flowing combat game. Then too, it would add nothing whatever to online play. Sure, you can add government types, you could throw in religion; but how many players really want to be anything other than an absol
Anagram. If you rearrange the letters of Barack Hussein Obama, you get: A Cabana Hubris Smoke and that's all you need to know.
I played the original Civ way back there, then Civ 2 which was really by Brian Reynolds who later started Big Huge Games that produced Rise of Nations. Civ 3 I really liked about up to the Enlightenment, then I usually restarted. Civ 4 with the expansions is a huge improvement, IMHO. Colonization is coming up to speed finally, I think. Might give it another whirl. But, check out civfanatics and you will see that Civ 3 and Civ 2 are still played by many. Rise of Nations seems t
You all make me feel inferior.
You might consider installing Firefox 3.5 in case there are problems in the future.
You drink too much green tea, and suddenly you are enlightened at once! But a good double scotch on the rocks will soon have you back to normal.
I don't know your network, but some things to try with IE 8. Make sure you really do have an internet connection. Start Sins or another browser, or some other game, see if it connects. If it doesn't, reboot. You rebooted at the install, but sometimes changes remain pending for some reason. Won't hurt to reboot again. If still no joy, you can then open a command prompt from Start, All Programs, Accessories. Type ipconfig in the mysterious land of command line darkness and hit R
Apologies if someone mentioned it, but "-" on your keyboard slows down the game in steps, while the "=" key beside it speeds it back up. And Pause key on your keyboard should pause the game.
The Robots remind me of Fred Saberhagen's Berserker stories. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berserker_%28Saberhagen%29 The Robots could be worked in. Or a Hive race maybe, like in Sword of the Stars.
Light of Altair has recently appeared on Impulse. There is also a Demo, but I did not find it on Impulse; it may be there and I just missed it. The developers published a very interesting PostMortem that provides a rare insight into how games really get put together. Worth reading if you are into the tech side. Note that this is a PostMortem for the development, hardly for the game itself which just went retail. http://uk.gamespot.com/users/SaintXi/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id
I never yet bought a game on Steam. I looked at the service, and at once it inspired a negative attitude. Impulse is good. www.gog.com has some interesting old games too, but I have yet to buy one.
Greek Mythology is just the starting area. Many other world mythologies after that. Can't tell much, sounds like gathering stones of power is the big excitement focus. You do level up. Microtransaction store will sell you xp multipliers for real world money, maybe other good stuff. Couldn't tell much more. Petroglyph was started by old Westwood Studios people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroglyph_Games I tried and tried to like Age of Mythology from the now sadly de
From the Gratuitous Space Battles home page, "simulation game that does away with all the base building and delays and gets straight to the meat and potatoes of science-fiction games : The big space battles fought by huge spaceships with tons of laser beams and things going 'zap!', 'ka-boom!' and 'ka-pow!'. In GSB you put your ships together from modular components, arrange them into fleets, give your ships orders of engagement and then hope they emerge victorious from battle (or at least blo
One of my earliest games was StarCraft Broodwar. It had good cheats built in that helped players new to RTS. And Age of Mythology had some very amusing cheats too.
Civ4 does have higher hardware requirements than Civ3. http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest is worth a visit if you have doubts.
Blizzard has decided LAN is not necessary. So it is not. Blizzard hath spoken. You and your flat mates must recant and repent at once! No! Do not wait for all three releases. Blizzard not like that! Must not anger Blizzard! You get right out there and be in that midnight release line like good gamers!
Yeah, I got it! Delighted with it! Noticeably faster, new video features. Firefox 3.5 is a musthave! However, note that some addons may not be compatible with it yet. My old NoSquint was not compatible, but there is a beta version that is. The extra speed alone is worth it, but check your addons to make sure that nothing vital gets disabled for you.
Vista has worked fine for me, no problems. Buhbye, why didn't you just go the whole hog and install Windows 7 beta?
So! Spying on me, eh? Seriously, this is the sort of info that would be needed by new players.
Cheer up, guys. MJ and Billy may be gone, but I am still with you!
A brief tutorial campaign would have been a good idea and I think it would have increased the popularity of the game. The tutorials provided give little indication of gameplay strategy per se. But that's all water under the bridge, too late now. To me, StarCraft had a really good campaign introduction. You would play through only a few missions until you felt you knew how the game basically worked, and then go to some maps to fight the computer on more equal turf. Or you would go onli
I recently flogged the web for Disciples III but came up with nothing new in the way of a release date, TBA.
I guess this was to show the competition mode. Thing is ... well, I did play SC online at one time. But not for very long. Like maybe three weeks? Then I concluded I had got about as good as I was going to get, which was not very good. So, I went back to single player and modding. I like modding a lot. So what I want to see is info on the modding and the single player options, map creation tools, scenario creators, things like that. These video reviews depress me, just
1 . Oh, wait! hey! We are all forgetting Battle for Wesnoth! http://www.wesnoth.org/ This is a free open source turn based strategy game with a very active community. Often said to be the best free open source game out there. Usually in everyone's top five anyway. The user community is active. 2.
