Well a great game that was a big surprise to me! Perfect World , free to download, free to play. Just stay out of that company store ... until about level 70 at least ... which will take a long time; and actually if you get good at farming to buy gold ingame you don't need to do the store then. It truly is free to download and free to play, no glass ceiling, no restricted areas, no second class citizens. This is a game in the genre of WoW, Aion, and Guild Wars; open world with

Yep, scratch that for me too. Nickel and dime you to death. Enough already! Let me tell you about a great game for free! Absolutely free! ... If you stay out of the Cash Shop, which is truly optional. No glass ceiling, no forbidden areas. No second class citizens. A truly free WoW style game that also resembles AION a lot. pwi.perfectworld.com and sign up for an account on Perfect World. All they want is a valid email address, no financial info. Download client for you
Frogboy, you are dangerous! But full disclosure, what race were you playing?
"They won't get my money with this one." Agree. All my initial enthusiasm has evaporated after reading the forum posts. The game as released was barely alpha, not a beta. Just from reading all the forum posts, I'm thinking probably a year worth of patches, maybe an expansion, some player mods.
Go Darksxx, bite 'em! Make 'em holler! By gosh, this forum has gotten so quiet you can hear the arteries harden! The SP game of Sins has precedent, Civ 3 and Civ 4 are basically skirmish mode games. Both have done quite well! Rise of Nations was basically a skirmish game. The Risk style conquer the world overlay merely tinkered with the skirmishes in various ways. I do think Sins SP has always been missing some basics. The tutorial is really way too short for a player
Yes, if you have not played Rise of Nations, it is worth it. Remember, you can pause the game and roam around and queue things up. A pausable RTS.
I had some astounding dreams when I was about that age, some that I could not distinguish from reality. We grow older, wiser, we know the difference. Or so we think. As an adult I have had a couple strange experiences of physical phenomena that I cannot explain in conventional terms. Two friends, degreed scientific professionals, have also recounted experiences that do not seem to fit into our normal defintion of reality. Nothing really dramatic or impressive for me or them, just very
Main thing is leave games alone for awhile. The magic eventually drains away. But it returns with time.
Behold! It is a Craig Fraser! And he can talk! Good! Say something about once a week Craig, so we know IC is still there. Only devs I know who play their cards closer to their chests than you guys at Ironclad is ArenaNet. This new expansion must be the GW2 of space games!
South Africa ... the plot seems parallel to the situation under the old Apartheid. Read Africans for the aliens.
Tkins, you have a point. Posts by fans, mods by fans; no updates from Ironclad on what they are doing, if anything.
Speaking of a nice zerging ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIRPcICB-iY
Wow! Ascaron did go broke! Looks like Sacred is now owned by Deep Silver of Germany. The Ascaron devs seem to have started a new studio. I did play D2 quite a bit, but never went over to Sacred because it was not different enough. Sacred 2 scared me off with the DRM.
This is simply completely stupid. It ignores the fact that Sarah Kerrigan is the star of the show, and the series really in fact continues to revolve around her in SC2. The Queen of Blades. I think a change of major to something useful is in order. Perhaps accounting.
I think it goes back to StarCraft where you mined crystals and gas. The crystals looked pretty on a map, as opposed, say, to piles of elephant poop. The gas geysers blew out attractive green gusts to be visually pleasing also. Scouts and light frigates cost no crystal probably because low end SC units required no gas, thus giving you a bit of time to get gas mining going and take care of more important matters such as rushing. Here it is initial colonizing and perhaps fending off pira
Grassmaster, I think they fixed the slider problems in patch 1.1 which is supposed to be in the download versions by now. I can't find the patch notes again. There is a huge amount of changes in the patch notes for 1.1 if you can find them. Edit: (Oops. They did not fix the slider problems in 1.1. Many other problems are emerging as players now begin to comment on the full released game. I think this game will need several patch levels, perhaps some expansions and user mods too.)
http://www.kerberos-productions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8117 is a page with links to a set of instructional videos on Sword of the Stars. These are very well done, and were non-trivial to make as I think you will see further down the page where details of the production are given. Don't we wish that Sins of a Solar Empire had some similar instructional videos for new players and people considering the game? Yes, we can wish that. Wish wish wish, wish wish wish</s
The economy of Galciv 2 is easy to understand. I have understood it perhaps 8 or 10 times, only to discover each time that I don't understand it. So, I'm not understanding it again, but I could understand it again easily enough if I just read a few more forum posts and perhaps a few more essays. No problem. But I seem to see a pattern here and so I give up.
Hearts of Iron 3 Demo was released today, full game release is still on for the 7th. The link shown is only one of the sites at which it is available. May also be on Torrent by now. If you do a search for Hearts of Iron 3 forum paradox you should find the main forum site. There you will find links for a quick start .pdf and a manual .pdf in different threads. I have not played HoI since HoI 1, so I am an utter noob. The noobiest of noobs. I hope that someone more familiar with the ser
And with 7 votes counted, 4 of 7 for Master of Orion 2! Mine for sure. Me Psilon.
Smugglers 4. There's a demo. This game reminds me vaguely somehow of ... Puzzle Quest Galactrix ... except that all the puzzle stuff is not there, conventional combat resolution. First impression of the demo is that the ship outfitting and adventure depth is much greater. Oh, no, it's not Puzzle Quest Galactrix. This really looks pretty good, but the price is a bit steep imho, $30. OP probably is looking for something real time rather than turn based though? Maybe cheaper wouldn't hur
But my first impression was: I can't zoom out (I swear, after playing Demigod I think it's impossible to enjoy RTS games without a God-Eye-Zoom)! Agree with you. But SC2 is not going to have zoom either, last I heard.
Well, there are some people who would rather mod because they just would. That being said, I have the impression that getting there was all the fun for the modder, mostly. How many of the mods have been maintained? How many have been kept up to date with the latest game version? How many will work with patch version 1.05? All of this is very mysterious to the average player like me.
Congratulations indeed! A great honor, well deserved.
Tages in Dawn of Discovery Demo ? Seems to be. In the top directory of the demo there is a file called TagesClient.exe. Perhaps Tages is so integrated that even the demo has to have it along, or maybe Tages is what sets the playtime limit with the demo. Not hurting anything, since it is just a demo, but maybe there should have been a DRM warning with the demo too.
