As a former avid sup com player I do understand the frustration behind opinions coming from other sup com players. This is an issue within the community itself where everyone is narrow minded and set on their ways. On the contrary though, I had an old discussion with another player where we were discussing the issues with PA and the concept of having a round battlefield. He stated, by having a part of the player's view cut off you are cutting off information, information is what is needed

How about giving meta units icons.
IMO the lack of not being able to fully zoom out and see the entire map and not having strategic icons will be an artificial cap for making good decisions. If you want people to make good decisions you want to give them as much info as possible, by allowing players to see the entire map they're given all of that, but without icons it will be extremely difficult to distinguish any units. Artificial skill caps or restrictions usually aren't a nice thing to do to players.
Metaunits should at the least have icons
Are the factions going to be different in small, but impactful ways like in sup com or with completely different units fulfilling different roles like in sc2.
Is the game simulation similar to how sup com is (basically can shots be blocked, dodged, groundfire, etc.) Will meta units use their advantages of individual units as in if I had a long range unit will it stay near the back of the group or if I have a tanky unit will it stay near the front, etc.
I'd have to say allow the players to customize it, this is probably the best option.
