Just to clear it up, I bit the bullet and started downloading the Multimedia pack (which STILL reported 366Mb) over my modem at home. As a bit of history, I downloaded GalCiv direct from the web over my work 10Mbit connection 1 day after it was released. I live in Australia - until 2 weeks ago I hadn't seen it in the shops. Way to go - two months early! The download then had been a couple of hundred megs - sorry, can't remember more than that. I doubt it was > 300 Mb though.<br

Just wondering if I could get a general consensus about the new multimedia pack - its a whopping 366Mb (according to Stardock Central) and I want to download it at my work (10Mbps connections rock) rather than home (56kbps connections SUCK). I am wondering what are the relative merits of the upgrade, and most importantly, if it's worth it, can I get the files "offline" - i.e. download just the MM files at work, where I don't have GalCiv installed, burn them on to CD, and take it home to

Just added my #41 Metaverse position to the Aussie Empire. I always wondered why nobody joined my "Galaxy Down Under Empire" - a little obscure for you? Anyway, lots of games, and a good increasing scoreline for you. ~SDC~

Smok-n-joe - the personalities are half-dependent an what they are set to at the establishment of the game and half on what their position is. Something to really blow your mind is that they also seem (in my case , at least) to change with difficulty, although I think you should lay off Masochistic for a while. As a general rule though, Drengins are warlike and demand tribute from all around them, Torians have a good economy and slightly flawed war views, Yor get pissed off at you easil

ElMeanYo - when you build a transport, the star system that built it will do one of two things: 1) If you have "Auto-launch Ships" checked, it will load and launch the transport up with 1/2 the available people on the planet, or half the capacity of the transport, whichever is lower. This should mean that the transport will already be launched and available to fly to the star system you wish to conquer. Moral of the story? UNCHECK "Auto-launch" when building Colony Ships, Transports and

AIL.ST - thanks for the detailed info - it makes a bit of sense. I am sure I saw FrogBoy state that somewhere, but their only other advantage was the stars being mapped out, or knowing where your ships were, that sort of thing. Ralegh - Yeah it is hard, for once - after whooping the AI butt at each level (it just takes time and one, two, or thirteen restarts!) of difficulty, I need a real challenge - at first I thought Genius was it, but it too fell by the wayside... The main problem is

I tend to use the Survey Ship to scout until I find my first yellow star. I have my 100 Million colony ship take that system, and once it's settled, I pump out Scouts from that system until I get Stellar Cartography. Once you get SC, send your Scouts to the farthest reaches of space, scouring the map for AI players and minor races, and establish trade routes from there. As to techs, I (on harder levels especially) like to try for Stellar Cartography quickly. I used to

As a relatively experienced player, one thing has really got my attention - it has to do with my latest Masochistic game (Gigantic, loose clusters, uncommon habitable planets) with all AI on default alignment and "Incredible" intelligence: I start the game and notice one thing immediately out of place - Production. Using the little Production wheel as a guide, I see that the AI has HUGE production over mine, usually 2x to 3x mine. This is before a turn has taken place, before anything h
