Really good insight into the game development and issues - I particularly like this part: "Don't let hardcore players determine features. It is very easy, especially for a small game developer, to let the hardcore players have a disproportional effect on the game design. I spent a lot of time as a project manager nixing proposed or half-completed features by someone who read an idea from one of the "regulars". These special features took precious time away from mainstream functionality

I suggest you give the game the benefit of the doubt till the developers wake up (its 3am over there) and maybe respond to you. If this was rampant, hundreds of players would already have been up in arms :)

Just do a scroll through their techs available for trade. U should be able to see it if they have researched it. Battleship/dreadnoughts are high on AIs' priority list. The AIs also exchange tech very aggressively. Or bully others to hand them over.

There is something wrong with the Metaverse currently so let's be patient and wait for it to be fixed. It is not accepting my score and I've had zero problems with submission previously included the latest version. Could be because of the web server maintenance. Just keep your save games and resubmit once it is fixed.

There is a definite element of risk involved in planetary assaults as there is no way of knowing whether they have built up a bunch of planetary defenses. Comparing your respective soldering stats would give you a feel. The attacker gets an additional advantage. My personal preference is to only go in where possible with superior soldering. It is a good idea to send in one transport on your very first attack on an AI just to see the odds.

Yes, it can. You have basically bought a "license" from the minor to use it. Since you already have it, it doesn't show up on the minor's diplo screen for trade anymore and since you cannot re-license it to someone else, neither does it show up on yours. Check your stats screen and you will notice that you have gained the trade good bonus.

Gary, He wouldn't be able to respond to you as he has been banned from this board for using colourful language. LDiCesare, The Altarians must really have wanted to hide something from your prying eyes. :) Agree that the AI AMMs algo should be improved.

Systems provide by far the best long term return on your investment (in this case colony ships). It is true also that by getting the system, you deny AIs of it and at higher levels one less system where they could apply their bonuses to. However, as you have mentioned, aggressive colonisation could leave you far behind on other important areas such as military, tech and economy. Usually, I would try to tag all in range systems before actually leaving the aggressive colonising s

The nasty Arceans are supposed to be able to retreat damaged ships as well but you have included a defensive screen/escort to increase their survivability. Cool if the AI could do this. Currently, human ships have a much longer survivability as we are usually more careful with them. Perhaps the AI (if it doesn't already have this) could have a inate tolerance to damage. So Dregs could have a 0% hp (kamikaze/no retreat) tolerance while Altarians have a 50% hp tolerance.

Thanks for the info, Ellestar. Neither population nor cash for rushing improvements is a concern for the late game culture bomber. I've got to amend my strat to ship over more pop then. I suppose purple stars are home to precursors?

The starfighter and corvettes now cost the same in both building cost and maintenance. The corvette basically gets another defense point and 2 more HPs. So having corvettes make starfighters obsolete. They still serve well in the 3rd ship era as scouts (with Eyes) and raiders. With enough military bonuses, they can take out small starbases. I'm still rather confused over the military might deterence issue. Quote from Brad in newsgroup: "Military line graph is based on

I noticed Arceans planting one starbase in the sector next to me and I was thinking to myself "wow, are they going to culture bomb me?". But no - they built no modules in that SB. After a while, I see more empty SBs sprouting all over in the sectors next to me even one in my sector. I think only one of them has a +1 attack module. Total about 7-8 mostly empty SBs burning through Arcean cash. But they also had some properly built ones in their home sector and 2 maxed out influence SBs. W

The difficulty is so high on Incredible to challenge cheesy players (which in your definition includes me). If you don't want such high difficulty, there is SURPRISE! lower difficulty levels in this game :) I do think that computer AIs should be aware that warring is extremely costly and they should see some clear advantage to go into it. What I do not want is making it literally impossible to bribe them or making them declaring peace soon after accepting the bribe (I remembered it use
