The more I think of it, the more I think it is a bug as SFs with their low attack would never have been able to penetrate the dreads/avatars high defense. Same probably goes with corvettes and dreads. Drank, was your starbase fitted out with military modules?
Ray the Wanderer
I have quite a number of experiences with this "fleet defense bonus" before but not to the extreme of SFs defeating dreads and avatars. I've had corvettes successfully defend against dreads and dreads against an excalibur which were not the results I had expected to see in straight fights.
Pls share with us your tactics on playing this fast. Have you found ways to reduce some of the more tedious tasks in the game?
Eyes is tops for me. Next is Grav Acc. Playing without Eyes in gigantic feels like playing blind. Another thing for Eyes is that you can't buy it off the AI if you missed it unlike trade goods. I suppose you could conquer the wonder (does it work?) but currently I don't think you can know the system the wonder is built on.
I went from speed+2 to PQ+15 to speed+2 then lastly speed+1 and economics. Speed is a powerful pick and its cost is accordingly high. It is indeed addictive - watching colony ships crawl at 2 parsecs per turn is quite maddening to the speedster :)
Kalon, You need to get used to the fact that you would be far behind in most every category for the early game due to their incredible bonuses. But once you survive the early game and consolidate, the tables can be turned. Read the masochistic strategies thread that Ralegh just bumped for some tips on beating this level.
Reread the beta changes - you're right. It does say that you cannot blockage stars. I read it as they have found a way for ships to move through other friendly ships who were blockaging other stuff such as resources. Well, like others did say, putting 1bc on scouts just results in wall of freighters, colony ships, etc...
Solitair says yes http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GS&id=56086
With earlier versions, the +15 PQ bonus really helped with morale as overpopulation sets in later. In 1.03A, you would need to bring your entertainment networks and stadiums earlier to sustain an above average morale.
Do a save and reload. Shouldn't affect your game adversely. The developers are looking into this bug.
A Find systems button would be a lot more useful than Find ships. I use Tab to cycle through ships anyway.
If it really makes you that happy.... Redo Metaverse ;) Seriously, Stardock did say that they would recalc the earlier scores and reduce the impact of milked games. However, I feel that if this is going to take too much time away from them improving other more important aspects of the game - such as game balance, new features and AI - I say just reset the Metaverse and be done with it.
I meant use Tab if you want to cycle through ships.
Effect of Spacebar = "Currently selected ship chooses to pass on its turn" (Rest of keyboard commands in manual) So yes, that's working as designed. Use Tab if you want to pass.
The wall of scout cheese would no longer be effective in 1.04 so maybe they will consider removing this scout maintenance, if the sole reason for it was to combat cheese.
These sections from the manual could be informative: "GalCiv is also capable of downloading strategies automatically from the net. Submitted scores include basic information on what strategies were employed (what technologies were researched and in what order, what ships and improvements you built in what order, your style of playing, your moral strategy, the type of strategy employed overall, etc.). The GalCiv AI can then download this information from the Metaverse to improve both th
Yes, no bonuses in all the games I've played so far. I do the same thing and not land on my best planet if possible.
Definitely defend your TS. They seem to be higher on the hit list for AIs compared to even systems. Don't fleet your TS with your escort. U will get a bug that screws up the TS movement.
Once you buy the game and register yourself, u could participate in a fun feature of the Galciv experience called the Metaverse. U can mouse over most of the medals to see what they are or see here http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/legend.asp
ahh, the eternal reality vs gameplay dilemma... I suggest you suspend your sense of reality for this case for the fun of playing this great game. Trust me, once you start playing bigger maps in the actual game (not the Tiny one in the demo), you would thankful for the reduced micromanagement.
Search for the other threads on "Demo". I saw some thread referring to other sites hosting the demo other than Gamespot which may not require membership. Gamespot basic membership is free I believe.
Sounds to me then that they are resource-boosted. Make those resources your top priority rather than wasting more dreads head-to-head. Build those resources up and you should be able to turn the tide against those Dregs :)
Dregs like War Party and if you don't, you're 50% hp down right off the bat. You didn't mention tech parity but you need to catch up on military enhancing tech if you aren't (Dregs love those). Lastly, get your scouts out to find their military resources and if you are anticipating a war with them, it is advisable to stage your dreads near those to take them out immediately at the start of hostilities. Just remember that the loss of those SBs only filter through about 2 turns after the SB destru
You would also need to gauge the target's own influence. It's tough if they also have influence SBs and wonders. Try to take out those SBs first. Go for better culturebomb-assist planets where possible (class 13/14). Truck over a bunch of pop to help with influence, u have no time for them to reproduce. Then go for cultural improvements.
I would support the proposal to call in the culturemonger's ambassador to inform that diplomatic relations have been officially degraded. I'm a culture bomber for the fact that it is still (after nerfing) far more efficient to clean up a gigantic map culturally then militarily. However, I could always back my cultural dominance with military prowess so diplomatic hostility wouldn't really hinder me much. It is probably arguable that if you are already dominating both militarily and cult
