Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I like my game examples/AAR's with as little story as possible. I'm more interested in what happened in the game and what you did about it. Throw in some little roleplaying if you'd like, but focus on the game itself.

The Forever War: Joe Haldeman Armor: John Steakley Starship Troopers: Robert Heinlein Foundation series: Issac Asimov All of these were mentioned before but they should be read. Starhammer, a rather rare book since its out of print, is also worth a look at.

Civs in my games have a tendency to surrender before i can amass a giant fleet of transports to attack their final, insignificant world amidst blood and glory...

That's the reason Crtl-N exists, as you pointed out. I can see how other players would enjoy having the challenge of using the first map generated, especially when surrounded by other civs. Flavor.

Diplomacy is my game, it allows me to focus on building my infrastructure early game without a lot of messy tech then getting up to speed by trading with the AI's.

The idea here is to give a bit more immersion to the game. When the AI colonizes a planet, they should then proceed to select from a number of names from their respective race's native language (unique name sets for each race). Any other way of planets changing ownership wouldn't have this effect. This would definitely add some character to a race's region of space.

I've placed my GalCiv 2 box right on my comp desk since I bought it, just a glance away It doesn't quite look like the one in the picture as it has a much more pleasing deep red glow in the amidst of starry blackness. It also has two small black ships in the distance, as opposed to the one in the picture. Don't believe it is a CE version and I rather like GCII's box just fine.

I would love to have a better invasion screen. The desolate brown rock crap just doesn't cut it. 150 billion souls being slaughtered on brown rocks. That's not epic, that's boring!! Maybe gigantic sky cities burning in the distance, or ships landing on the planet while said planet is ablaze. Or, even better, have it be random with a different one everytime! Please, please do something about this! [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
