Thx! I found another well-attended post on this topic called 'Siege Mission'. Anyone looking for tips check it out. There's several good strategies there, including one guy who says he took the Dreadlord's base.

You took the DL planet? I surely suck. I used the starting cash to build up mfg, economy and a few starbases. None of that lasted long once the DLs showed up. I then tried to build a stealthy task force of transports, constructors (for the starbase it would take for me to reach the other corner), and a squadron of heavy fighters. The DLs caught me and took me out pronto. I lost, and now have a nice cushy 'Love the Torians' mission to do. I sort of like the plan that I can
I've seen that sometimes too. However, did you see what the Tor advantage over your soldiers was? The Dread Lords took a planet of 15,000 from me tonight with only 10 soldiers, but their advantage was something like 750 to 5 against me. (Advantage means they had uber weapons and I was throwing stones.)
They are all correct! You just have to play to learn. 4X games are very complicated, and that's why we all like them so much. The first three scenarios of the campaign are fairly easy, so you might try those. (The fourth is a different story). Read the forums. Especially once all of the initial complaining dies down. People will post strategies and tips. Also, a single game can easily take 10 hours or more to finish. Unless you have that kind of time, you should plan to pl
Oh, and one more... While playing, Norton AV kicked into its weekly check and was slowing the game. I alt-tabbed out to shut of Norton, but when I came back all I could get was a black screen. I waited for a few minutes, but ended up having to reboot. I would call this my fault, as there's been no stability issues otherwise. But if there's something simple here it would be nice to be able to alt-tab out and take care of an email or something.
Was playing the campaign, Siege mission tonight. The Dread Lords took one of my planets (Andersona). For 2 or 3 turns after the fog of war around Andersona was lifted, even though my colonists had all been eaten. Not complaining. I got a good look at a Dread Lord Battleship because of it (and sheesh, we're d0omed.) Anyway might be something to look into fixing.
SPOILERS! Did anyone beat this on Normal or higher? I was rocking along, kickin bootay on all the usual suspects (Drengin, Yor), when this big red space squid shows up and drops 10 alien buttkickers on my planet. I drove them off, but they killed thousands! It was only after that I decided I'd better get moving, but too late. By the time I built some transports, a few heavy fighters and a couple of constructors (for starbases to extend my reach) there were squidleys all ove
Link Smink. (No offense ) I like to build the manufacturing center first. I makes all the other builds go faster. More effiicient. Then I build the market, then lab. After that I choose what specialty the planet will be and focus on that building type, only building moral and influence structures if there's a need. Starbases seem to be cheaper in this game than in CG1. So, if you
"it's at Best Buy, Walmart (but selling out quickly at both)" Good for you, Stardock! That's the sure sign that the good word is getting out, and it's got a bigger voice than the bad word. If it weren't so cold, and so far, I'd come over there and give you all a hug. Now, go be with your families for a weekend. GalCiv 2 will still be here Monday morning!
They're just trying to bring some order to this chaos. I sort of wish they'd congeal all of the whining into categorized stickies so I can find the actual posts in here. Not that the complaints aren't valid. It's just that everyone out there who didn't update their three year old video drivers comes straight to the forum and shoots off a hate-post, assuming they are the only one, and so on.
Oh my God! If that video falls into the hands of Tipper Gore the video gaming industry in America will be shut down! Was the punk really playing GC2? Didin't sound like GC2 muzak. I wonder what he was saying? That's just not right. I did like the part where his 'escape' key popped off the keyboard and he threw it at his monitor.
Ermmmm. I know this may be as well recieved as customer service asking you if your PC is plugged in, but there are little icons to the right of the map that turn the planets/ships/stars on and off I think. Try that.
Don't know her, don't know if she's cute or if she really likes Mountain Dew. But I can say that the ONE and ONLY problem I ever had with GC1 she was prompt and courteous in helping me get it right. All hail!
The Drengin have more hitpoints because of their inherent military bonuses. You can get the same by customizing your race at the start of the game. Also, ships gain hitpoints for every combat that they survive. You can make your own uber-fighters by camping a fleet of them over another player's planet and shooting his defenders as they are build (one at a time). When they need repairs send them to one of your planets for a break.
I like the 50% research bonus always. The rest of my points I'll adjust depending on what strategy I think I'll use So far in GC2 I've put points into morale bonus (+20%) I think there's a point left over that I generally choose economy or something Then I play the party that gives a +20% to social and military production (Federalists?). To play this way, you kind of have to build economic improvements to stay competitive, but you will always be ahead in techs.<br/
Thank you, Brad and your team too. I hope you all get a well-deserved break soon!
Make sure you've jacked your tax rate as high as it can go while keeping morale at 50%. That will get you the max number of beakers and other production points. Build labs, research upgrades. Pick the research bonus for your race when you start a game. You can choose a research bonus of +50%. That'll get you rolling. If that's not enough, align yourself with the tech political party. Make friends and trade techs with them. You shouldn't try to research the whole
I've not slept since Monday night. At my age, this is dangerous. I'm going to have to sleep now. Hopefully the Drengis won't come get my empire while I'm sleeping!
Well, let's see. Please take it as a compliment that in my estimation GalCiv I is the best 4X game released recently. Although I didn't get Civ4 b/c Civ 3 was so bad. So, my review more or less is a comparison of the sequel to the original. I really like making my own ships. That's very cool and worth the money alone. The campaign so far has been very good. It feels more like I'm part of the story (so far) than the Altaran Prophecy. The gameplay and the interface
I've pretty much decided to try the campaign at NORMAL for now. This scenario pits you directly against the Drengin with no friends. The Drengin is was very slow getting a colony ship up, so I had taken all of the colonizable planets by the time he built one. That pretty much sums it up. Drengin - one planet. Me - 5 planets. d0omed Drengin. (He did make a nuisance of himself while I built up colonies by sending patrols around and blowing up my starbases. But once I got up and runnin
They did the same to me. I just figured they wanted to spread their enlightenment to my colonists. I was too busy spanking the Drengin to worry about them.
Franco, they're only digital people.
Okay, played it again on normal level and enjoyed it a lot more. The Altarans still did the influence strategy, but I took the 2 worlds in the Protoss system and the better of the 2 worlds in the middle. This time the Altarans took the lesser world in the middle, and the Drengin took both worlds in their corner. Altarans didn't do much. Their ships weren't good (they used light figther chassis). I kept them supplied with good weapons tech, though. Every so often they would
Same here. My ships all had an extra hitpoint after repair. I sort of imagined it's because the crew got a chance to take a break and play some GalCiv during the repair.
Get it. Get it NOW! Or maybe not, since you won't sleep, eat, or talk to your family for at least 24 hours after it arrives. Really, the game is fine. The whining is inevitable but there's 50 sleepless people having a great time for every complaint. Maybe more. Get the DL. Looks like the box stores haven't even stocked it yet.
