First, for SD, a minor bug. Several times during the first mission in the campaign the Dregin mention the 'Acreans'. I thought they were Arcaens. No biggie, but maybe a fix for later when things quiet down. On to my experience... I played Beginner level, btw. The mission pits the human (me) and my so-called ally the Altarians against the Drengin. Each of us is in our seperate corner, with an unclaimed system in the middle with a class 10 planet and a few others of little n
Doctor J
Your ship looks much cooler like that than any of mine did finished.
All of my planets are prison planets. No matter how many tv's I buy them they generally become very unhappy. So I just build big transporters and go store them in stasis-vats at a poorly defended starbase hoping that someday the Drengin will come eat them. If they don't, eventually I'll have them reprogrammed in their sleep as soldiers and use them as cannon-fodder to take a neighbor's w
Don't get too fixated on the areas of influence as borders. Your enemies consider the entire galaxy their territory and don't think twice about crossing those lines of influence to smack you down. The influence borders are important to letting you know if an alien society's influence is greater than that of your own civilization. If that happens your planet could defect. Shooting down an offending starbase is one solution. However, your allies will sometimes build a starba
Thanks WishX, I'll try the knowledgebase first, then the forums. It's not that I don't mind asking a question someone else has asked, it's just not efficient. I'm sure you want to play and the folks at SD want to rest a bit right now.
As in all things in my life, my ships strongly follow the function over form philosophy. But I want them to look way cooler than they do. Will there be any help for aesthetically challenged shipyard crews? Thx
I know the fix for this is probably something obvious, but my space battles look like a jazzed up GalCiv I style battle. How do I view them in the way cool cinematic mode promised by the pre-release vids? Thx
I have a few questions to ask, and I'm sure they've already been asked somewhere. The forum is so cluttered up though, that it's hard to find information here. Would it be possible to get someone to categorize the posts asking questions about the game and gameplay by type? For example, if all of the questions about "When's the game coming out" were put in one file and all of the quesitons about "It doesn't work on my PC what's wrong?" got put in one file it would declutter the board to a great d
I've only played one game of GalCiv II to completion, but I've got a lot of Galciv I under my belt. My stragety has generally been to decide on a strategy (conquest, tech victory, alliance victory, etc...) and focus my research on those areas, but when an otherwise useful tech (say - sensors) comes available and can be researched in 2 or 3 turns, I go ahead and get it. You can often trade techs with your friends and you should. You can also make a fortune selling tech to the independent worlds.
Don't want to be Jason Persampieri anymore? (Good question, actually. I want to switch to my more widely known but hardly famous other handle).
You have a metric ton of beef in your oven? How many people in your family? 2500? (Mmmmm. Beeeeef. My wife makes me eat veggies all the time. Can I come to your house?) I'm at work. I rarely find it problematic to be here, but today I'd much rather be at home, refusing salad and carrot-snax and playing GalCiv II.
I'll try a tiny map against only one other player, probably the Drengin, and on beginner level. It seems prudent to figure out the best way to ID your enemies ship configuration and how to make ships/fight. I played a game of Galciv I over the weekend and it took me over 20 hours of game time to finish. I'd hate to get 10 hours into a GalCiv II game and find out I'd made a stupid choice at the start and need to throw in the towel.
Wouldn't want to tick off your retail partners, Mick. I'll bet the distribution agreement specifies that advance copies of the game can only go to reviewers and such. I'd imagine there's some fussing to take place over the cancelled pre-orders already. Apparently I'm not the only one who cancelled their EB.com order so that I could download today. Be patient. 3 PM EST is only 4.5 hours away. Take a nap or something, you'll need all your energy for the 12 hour gaming marath
Playing Galciv I in the largest map size. The Drengin started in a bad spot for once, and surrendered to me long ago. Believe it or not, its the Yor that are doing well this time. They've got a huge position in the middle of the galaxy, sandwiched between me and my (very weak) friends the Arcaens. Problem is, none of us have the military to atack the others, and it seems that we are all more or less going for the cultural win. Imagine that, Yor culture! Anyay, I plan to form an alliance with the
You know, it isn't really that clear. I ordered from EB, cancelled my order there last night and DL the stuff from SD while waiting for my box. On the order screen, don't click the EB icon, look for the "Buy This Game" red buttons. You want the one that is $44.95 plus shipping. It ends up costing you a little more, but come Tuesday you'll be emporer.
I just beg of Stardock, if they decide to add disasters to PLEASE make an option to turn them off. It sux playing for hours only to have to throw in the towel because your jewel system blows up for no reason. I mean, really! How many times has the Earth blown up? None I imagine, unless we're just memories in some sort of program like the Matrix or something.
What's your favorite Galciv I strategy and will you try and adapt it to Galciv II? I generally either went the economy/influence route. That way I could keep up technologically by buying and trading techs and make an unstoppable economic engine. If I ever got in a war, I'd switch all my constructor production to the best ship availalbe and buy them to completion, making an instant fleet. I rarely took a planet by force. Invasion is such a messy business. Another strategy th
IamGory, I'm pretty old. What's a lan Gaming Center? Is it like Starbucks with networked 'Quake' terminals all around? Sounds fun.
Is anyone else here old enough to remember the "Yamamoto" from that cartoon? I think the show was called "Battleship Earth" or something like that. Of course, if you are old enough to remember the original Yamamoto (the REAL one) then I shall bow deeply in greatest respect. Anyway, Yamamoto might be a cool name for a super-capital ship class.
I downloaded the pre-load stuff last night at about 11:00 pm EST. I got a 'time out' error about 20% of the way through the first file. Tried it again, it started where it left off and trucked right along for about 10 minutes. I queued up the rest of the files (tutorial, multimedia and movies) and went to bed. This morning all had gone well. Overall a good experience. Thanks Stardock!
Not that it really has a bearing on the AI, but I like to name my ships (and now I finally can design them - maybe) in such a way that the enemy underestimates thier capability and perhaps even is laughing too hard to take the first move. For example a pink battlecruiser called the "Fluffy Bunny Slipper" class. Or a defender called the "Koombaya" class. Or maybe even an attack destroyer called the "UN Security Council" class. <img src="smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="ab
Er, I mean "Dread Stars" or whatever they were in GalCiv I.
I was only able to build one once in GalCiv I. I played on easy mode so I could get one, but I had lots and lots of fun with it. Are they in GalCiv 2?
My behavior has become completely irrational. I didn't sleep last night because I was thinking about designing ships using an interface and parts I've not even seen. I got up early, and skipped a shower this morning so I could watch the 'tutorials' that had been downloading overnight. (Don't worry, I can hit the YMCA later this morning, once the staff gets up and running). Watching the tutorials only increased my anxiety, because now I know even more about how cool the game that I can't play loo
Will you go for easy? Will that be an empty victory for you, knowing that your mommy wouldn't let the Drenghin get ya? Will you boast of your victory, with your subconscious suppressing the truth that you chickened out? Or will you go for 'normal' and risk a humiiating defeat, or possibly a well deserved victory? Me? I'll probably hide behind my mommy. I need to build my confidence gradually. <img src="http://images3.stardock.com/gc2/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmi
