Animated backgrounds, that would be cool. would you happen to have an example(or pointers) of a file name to accomplish that? I think i'd like to give it a try sometime. Thanks for the info

Glad you got everything worked out. before i could post them to the library i have to fix some small things: add mini icons for the frieghters, i think a couple ships are missing different icons and such, and make a death knight replacement. so there is still some work to be done with them. I was talking with a couple people that are involved with the star trek mod and there is some renewed interest in finishing it. so i think i will wait to see how that all works out before posting to

for those of you that do not have a 2d graphics program here is a solution http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/faq.html read the first section of the faqs then your ready to donwload and install from here http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/stable.html . this program is not a photoshop replacement but it is really close. from what i could see with my quick tests: this program supports every popular file format, its layer base like photoshop, supports channels, and history palatte. there is more

I found this app http://www.blender3d.com/ and thought it could help things out here. for those looking to try 3d modelling and animation this program for being open source and free is really not to bad. Of course there is a learning curve that is steep for someone that has never used a 3d app before, but if you stick with it i think it would be worth it. here is a link to the users manual http://www.blender.org/modules/documentation/htmlI/ and some tutorials http://www.3dmaxer.dk/tutorial.asp?a

You have a bit of work ahead of you if you want to include those ship along with the originals. I think the confusion here, is the difference between the ship name and the model name(spirit). Though the ship names are the same the models do differ. Coplann are you desaturating(making it black and white through the removal for the colour info) your image? if so, that is likely why your are getting strange results. If there are greys in the alpha channel, those areas covered by the greys will be semi transparent.

the short of it is this. I rendered 120 individual bmp files, then used a action script i made in photoshop to stitch them together, add a alpha channel, and assemble then into a vertical flim strip. Then it was just a matter of using your software to encode it.

A pulsar would be a better description than a quasar. Not that it really matters, i was just looking to make something different. ~SDC~

Happen to be bored today, so i put my mind to replacing the animated stars in game. here is the result http://www.freewebs.com/guildshand/stars.htm this mod has to be installed in the main gfx folder. for some reason if installed in the mods folder it crashes the game. so back up your Stars file prior to trying this mod. enjoy

your welcome. i hope to have some time to play a entire game with the monster mod, to see how it has all come together. nothing like modding a game in the earily hours of the morning, something i'm all to acquainted with. hope you find some enjoyment out of your exile. [Message Edited]

You can get the less busy one from the library now. as a side note, the file should work in the gfx/mods folder now. enjoy [Message Edited]

constructive criticism is something that i appreciate ,and that is what is have received. As for your observations: Altarian and the minor races' monsters are "invisible": nolonger the case. re-encoded both, they seems to be working now. Yor monster somehow seems to be a bit "pixely-thicker": redid alpha channel they have slimmed down a bit. Yor monster pink: made less pink. must have been late when i made that one. nice to see your mod in the galciv library. i'll give a try when time allows. i does sound fun. if you check my site http://www.freewebs.com/guildshand/ i have updated the monster file. it now includes a different coloured monster for each of the main races. its just the first version so tell me if something needs changing:like the colours, or if you have trouble getting it to work right. the new model name is "mon". i can change the monster graphic to different colours, that shouldn't be to much trouble. as for differnet animated graphics, thats a little bit to involved for me right now, maybe in the future. i look forward to try your mod, sounds fun.

Cool, glad you got everything up and running. If you overwrote the original file, there should be no problems with any other function in the game. I just added to the existing file, so everything the game needs is still there. As for the ships i have create, yeah enjoy them. i certainly didnt make them all for myself. they are(were) for a star trek conversion mod http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/tbs/gc/index.php?h=1&pf=98 i was helping make with Mr. Squatty (hut101) and others. It has sin

the only reason one can not use the stock monster model is becase of the lack of a race 35 model. i have since altered the existing monster file so that you can complete your modding idea, which i like. you can get the new monster file here http://www.freewebs.com/guildshand/ at the bottom of the page just copy it in to your mod folder and use model name Monster01 in galciv writer [Message Edited]
