The thing is how do you get your non-gameplaying wife to understand that? :)
#34 by Citizen Callipygea - 6/5/2003 1:09:51 PM I was playing a medium maso game, had a bad start and was getting creamed. I was down to one system when suddenly the Arceans surrendered to me. I was able to survive another year thanks to this out-of-the-blue gift. I was the weakest player in all respects, so it was really a surprise.
Same here with the Yor surrendering to me while fighting the Arceans and the Torians, maybe more. Altereans were already gone. However..
I'd rag on Mom and Dad to get a new box! ;) And this is coming from a parent...
Thanks, Air. It seems to me that is what I need to do. I've placed all kinds of starbases in the two majors territory and am SLOWLY moving the culture in my favor. They are not attacking me (I'm too strong I reckon.) In one variation of this game I tried taking them both on but that doesn't work. I could take either one individually but... I'd like to win this one because I should get some points since they had me by the short ones for a while. At one time, I was within 30 of the 1
My last game I saved to my pet-named save file but when I pulled it up, it went back to the previous game I had saved played about a week earlier. Did this three times in a row. I deleted the game and used another file name to save by. Not quite right.
If he declares war on me then the Arceans won't go along with it? But of course, my dear Watson! Thanks, tet.
My quandry, oh Learned Ones - After a rough start (even with good position) and surviving an initial war with the Torians, I found my planets almost enveloped culturally by the Torians and Arceans. The Alterans got wiped out early and the Yor, bless their mechanically-enhanced hearts, surrendered to me as I must of been the worst of their options. After I built a miltary and gained some culture and my color got a little healthier, I went after the Dregs as the Tories and Arcies have a
Yellow Sign, Very concise, well written, teaching document(organized like a teacher's). Thanks for the very good example (A-B-C-D) of tech trading. I'm getting the selling & making of trade goods part down and this option can only help more. I'm more of a war monger/culture (via techs) type, probably 'cause the concept is easier to master (playing a lot of AOE doesn't hurt either) but your approach is good across the board. Thanks for the thought expansion.
Someone once said: "Beware of what you ask for - you might get it." My only comment is all you heavy hitter are way ahead of the curve so if you want it ultra tuff, so be it. But Frogboy & Co, please have mercy on the middle-upper and lower levels! ;) They are *trade* goods after all and I'm just getting the hang of acquiring them for supposed economic gain.
I've seen a couple of others mention this, usually in conjunction with preceived faults of the Meta-Verse. Sounds good to me.
If I had a Ranger, I wouldn't worry about who had my extra Corvettes. ;)
Or go to war with someone.
For me, the military option in this game leads usually to a cultural victory. I've won a game or two militarily just to see what it feels like. Gal Civ is great that if you don't want a military victory, just turn the option off at the beginning of the game. However, this is a very ignorant statement on my part because since I've not done it, I'm not sure how the AI responds in these situations. If anyone's done it, maybe they could respond. Maybe no one turns off the military option....a v
Hmmmm... Takes a strong military to be successful and win? Seems like the real world to me. Remove the military power aspect of this game and I won't play it (I know this has Frogboy shakin' in his boots! ha-ha! ) Someone one earlier said this is a 4x game...ditto! As far as the Metaverse and/or scoring: whatever is changed will become an advantage or disadvantage to someone. You will not be able to please everbody. (:( I'd rather listen to how everone is
I'm no expert but, at the very least, he needs to upgrade his video drivers, as suggested above.
Joe's stuff is good. The best way to learn is in these forums, especially from the top 25 in the Metaverse. Everyone has there own style which is different from stuff like AOE which breaks done to "the" approach which will build population and military the quickest. The biggest thing here is learning that x amount of dollars (er, bc) are going out each and every turn for supporting the infra-structure that you build up, whether it be armies or social improvements. Taxes and trading t
Another vote for Firefly. This weeks TV guide had a preview of what is coming next year: 1) a new race Xingli (sp) attacks and destroys major earth population - Borg implications of technical superiority 2) Trip's sister is killed - he turns into a vengance seeking hard-ass 3) The Enterprise goes after these guys into a far quadrant 4) Tpal goes with them, voluntarily quitting the Vulcan High Command 5) New Space Academy recruits goes with them - a space SEALs-X
If you leave the UP, can you still trade with the minors?
if your stuck in a corner, scattered galaxy, uncommon planets and the Drengin are your neighbors it makes for a quick game. :) Out of seven games, I've only restarted once. I try to play with the hand dealt me.
I played as the War Party with HP & Defense Bonuses and those little starfighters relatively rocked (an 1.03 upgrade). Granted, I didn't get to play as long as I wanted (ok, a bigger score) cause on a medium galaxy, scatted, uncommon planets with the AI normal, I was pretty dominant. Surprisingly, for the 1st time with the WP. Still learning the game and this forum is a great way to do so.
Based on what Vorlin on others have postulated: 1) SB built on a resource 1BC maintenance +1BC up to max 5. 2) SB built (no resource) double #1 (if only one in sector 3) ADDITIONAL SB built in sector to be some multiplier of #2 (at least by 2). This would have the original intent of Stardock to limit the effect of these bases. 4) No economic relief for SBs thru a tech or planetary social production. Counter-productive to intent. If at the end game you can't afford it,
Thank you, Governor. I wondered how auto-retreat actually worked. Auto-attack is great when you have superior ships - fire and forget! Watch out for the occasional heavily defend SB tho.
Lot of good points here. I like the idea of gifting them freighters because I like to trade with them - they always seem to have the cash! I'm thinking that if a minor is in your territory it is safer from AI attack.
Strategies = ok political commentary = sucks
If you don't submit a score, you really will lose track of you relative progress. I mean (not really knowing), is there any other way to know the history of your games. They are not kept on your computer are they? Your top ten games at beginner, middle, advanced, etc.? That may be a good idea as well to have incorporated. If it wasn't for work and a wife, I'd have more scores to submit! ;)
