"So I thought this week we'd put it to an actual vote. Let everyone voice their opinion on how they would like wallpaper moderation to be handled. " If memory serves me well, (and often it does not ;-) ), it was the WC/SD desire to expand the acceptance level to make the site more friendly and encourage new participation. We were given many reasons for this and it was the desire to make it easier for people to participate in the community. At the time, there were many voicing negative reac
Believe it or not, mods have to put their personal feelings aside.
I believe that is surely the intent. Yet if you look at two fractals and decide this one is good enough and that one is not good enough, you are surely making a decision reflecting you personal preference. If three other mods agree with you then that is the total of their personal preferences. I do not mean to convey any evil intent here, just the reality of what it is. I too like the PP idea r

Having read the previous posts and suggestions, I find myself with the same problem as I have had with all the previous threads on this subject. That is one of definition. When it is suggested to have a gallery of the "best", I have no idea what that means. The best in what sense? The most popular?, The best for those that like minimalist work? The best for those that prefer 3D work? or abstract work? or those looking for a particular color to match a skin? I think we all agree th
I was talking big bucks though. Like Pixar / Disney. With education and training you could be making millions for doing graphic work.
That's certainly true if you own the studio or are in the upper end of the management team and have stock options. As for the basic set of folks that actually do the graphics work, I think you will find it is very competitive field with a lot of very talented people and the project pay or salaries are not that great as there are so many try
Kenwas wrote how he doesn't understand how Stardock can suggest raising prices or what not when it's having its best month ever. But that's precisely the issue, Stardock had its best month ever despite WinCustomize losing money and community-related software sales and content representing smaller percentages of Stardock's revenue and becoming only marginally profitable
Thanks for the clarification of the profitability split, although I am not sure what is included or, equ
This Fall will be Stardock's 15-year anniversary and this very month will be the best month the company has ever had.
With all the talk about the users not doing their part in beta testing, etc and the cost to SD continually on the rise, this statement by Brad seems somewhat out of place and over looked by respondents to this thread. A bit confusing it seems to me. Just what are we really talking about here? Obviously the current structure does not seem to be hurting t
These skinners are unindentured private individuals who deserve the right to determine what and how their works are offered to the public, be it all 'free' or all 'Premium' or a mix.
Here, here! Probably should be inserted in all threads of this type. BTW, is "unindentured" really a word?
No he doesn't because simply buying WB is not enough for me as the consumer or for him as the producer. Brad knows the real money is in selling skins: people will get tired of skins they have and want new ones, or new skins will come out and people will want those but someone can buy WB w/ subscription and really never need to buy again for a few years until the program siginificantly changes... (In other words he wants to become gillete and make money on the razors (skins), because that
He might help me out if I was stranded on the side of the road because he is a nice huy but I don't believe for a second he cares if I think WB is a good or bad value based on the number of free "master level" skins...
Of course he cares, even if for no other reason than he wants you to buy it. He knows you will not do so if your do not perceive value.
Many conversations around here get duplicated over and over because new people enter the ring and raise the same issues over and over. It will always be this way until the member base starts to drop off. As things grow it will only become more common.
Right you are!

Seems to me that every three months or so we go through this same conversation, usually started by a post from Brad that ends up with a discussion of the viability of WC, the cost of WC, the fact that SD doesn't need WC, etc. We all jump in with our opinions and to me is is getting a bit old for one reason: we have no facts! We do not know any of the real cost structure of SD or WC. We do not know the number of subscribers, skinners, freeloaders, personal wages allocated to WC, accoun

I hear you Po. I agree with the need for true step by step documentation. The issue is that I have not seen this type of step by step documentation with any software other than ones that cost hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars. Am I wrong? Professionally written docs cost big bucks. The handbook that comes with Vue Infinite is such a document but then the program cost $795.00. Same for any of the serious 3D programs such as Max or Cinema 4D or my favorite Modo. Maybe it could
Either way, if you are proposing that there is something positive that community members can do to support any or all of the core features we have come to enjoy, and which you feel are now threatened, it would be useful to have those ideas presented in a way we can make use of. If you are asking for ideas, then yet again, doing so in a focussed format and in a way that makes those that respond feel they are being listened to may be useful. If on the other hand, the core issues ra
I believe it is. If Stardock started putting the software on store shelves, packaging, distribution, etc, would drive the price up. This is part of the reason the software is cheaper becuase they don't have all that overhead to deal with. (I beleieve)
I really wouldn't know Craig as there aren't really any comps out there for comparison. Unless I am mis-reading the quote I used from Brad's statement, he seems to think is should be priced at a 100% increase($40) from the

"The reality is, while the skinning "community" still exists, it is now a small sub-section of the "skinning market" which is made up of traditional consumers who simply expect (with good reason) to pay money in exchange for a program and content that just works. There's nothing wrong with that. That's how every other market works. But those markets don't support products that are $10 to $20. Those products are $50 to $70. The only reason WindowBlinds isn't already a $40 program is because o
I didn't say there was humor in a suicide attempt, I added the ":~D" at the end of that because it's kind of funny to think about a paramedic and a suicide attempt patient laughing all the way to the ER... which happened more than once.
You are sitting in judgement if you are telling that suicidal person what they can and cannot laugh at - especially when it concerns only their own actions.
Please point out to me where I told a suicidal person what they can and cannot laugh at. I have no idea what you are talking about. I asked, "That's funny?" as a retorical question as I find no humor in a suicide attempt. I did not tell anyone when they could and could not laugh.
