If you hold Shift while pressing middle mouse, you can tilt the camera. However, as soon as you let go of Shift, the camera returns to the default angle. I discovered a workaround to this: 1. Hold Shift. 2. Hold Spacebar. 3. Release Shift. 4. Release Spacebar. This will you to tilt the camera freely. Unfortunately, as soon as you press Shift again (e.g. to select a group of units)
