The first twenty or so turns you move your first survey ship manualy to find habitabal planets etc. but soon you'll find a free scout or sensor drone which you send out to explore the map and you can put your survey ship on auto. Also I found that the auto setting is more productive than doing it myself, especialy once you have more things on your mind, and in average with two or three of them minding their own business I get about six or seven explored anomalies per turn.

On larger maps, after building the first few colony ships, I have my biggest manufacturing systems produce one or two survey ships. If you set them to auto survey they will bring in a s**tload of upgrades and you don't have to worry about them again until fighting starts by which time they are tough enough to withstand the first few attacks.
If we take two planets of the same class (say 17) and both have the same population, morale level and (starbase) improvements, do they have the same amount of social and military production and income or are there other factors involved?
Thanks for your answers. It does seem odd though that in many instances it takes longer for a unit to be repaired than to build a new one. Imagine almost wrecking your car and than having to wait nearly five years before it is repaired. I would like to see the repair rate to be increased.
I think it takes to long for a ship to ger back to full hitpoints after it's been damaged but maybe I'm missing something. Is there any way to get your ships repaired faster, except from parking them in the same sector as a starbase with the repair upgrades or researching +repair improvements? Does putting them in a solar system help?
