Our empire has crossed a milestone, 5 million points and going.
The points are all relative. The scoring parameters can change too quickly. Today's 5 million points might be tomorrow's 10 million points. So instead of points, just keep in mind there is only one direction and that is forward. Onto number one, again!

I pointed out the disappearing games a few weeks ago in the GROSS and the Jedi empire threads in the Empires forum and theorized that real old games were vanishing from the game counts due to being aged out of existance even though the formula advertised to us never mentioned anything about being aged to zero percent, but I could not say with any certainty how old was too old at the time. I could only say it was happening. I am glad CM came back out after so many months to help point it out, alo
Hmm, it looks like I need to file another report soon. I have been neglecting the Meta a bit too long and the Yor espionage droids of mine are getting decadent and lazy. I'll file a report later this week after I had a chance to reprogram them a bit.
You just need to get to close relations with the surviving major races (minors don't count) and then set up an alliance with all of them. So a few can be killed off along the way, yes. I wouldn't recommend allying too early unless you really need some extra alien help in a game vs. a real bad opponent. You might get some help against the common enemy, you might not. But the ally will be sure to try and call on you if they get in trouble! Because of that, a lot of us set up an alliance all at onc
And 23 days with about 2 weeks extra since I joined the crew back when Doom was just a little survey ship living off of scraps. My how much this empire has been through since then!
Part of it also seems to be how long an empire holds ground in the rankings. The Guardians have more points, but not the longevity. GROSS also held an unusually large percentage of the map even after falling out of #1 and down into the lower part of the top 10 for a long time, and it was clear the Fellowship at that point in time was a superpower still with more battles, so I was suspicious there was some kind of lingering effect linked to how long an empire had been at that spot. So we
Must get Peter Pan out of my head first. (From my musings in the Tortuga thread in empires forum.) I got too many visions of bad things happening to Tinkerbell on our ship.
MASTER OF MAGIC!
Now we're talking. Yes, yes, yes!
But I really do wonder why some players feel "cut off". If I felt that way, I wouldn't have as much fun or feel as welcome here in the GalCiv community.
Because it was kind of like the eyes of the Secret Police where on us. Say the wrong thing and they might be there. We empiring types were basically holding our collective breaths, few wanting to break the self-imposed rules. Now I did not speak out against the Great Experiment so I could raise heck recruiting through all
Thank you! All the hard work you folks do on Galciv is still much appreciated. That old L game I had lying around because of the "it's a scenario when it is not" submitted under M and I am happy. :) Now to put M through the paces soon!
why stardock cant put some more successful betas on the side ?!
True, it would be nice if they would post not only the latest build, but the previous one as well. Sort of a little insurance policy just in case. But us folks who willingly play the AP betas were warned.
do we need to stop the patrolling of the waters in this area of the Metauniverse
Do what you will, but Gerakken, a champion of empiring and friend of many empires, is back in the GF once again! I just caution people not to let it get out of hand again.
We have also been talking about this in our secluded empire forum lair. One person there suggested I repost my comment here. "Well, as one who helped bring this up again in the GF when I was expressing my feelings of disconnection and wanting reconnection but with moderation, I do not like how the experiment has turned out over the last three months. First, my statements from the Diplomat's thread: 'I know everybody thought they could just bury the issue after a hasty
From what I have been told a couple of months ago, the threads cannot be moved. Also, there is sort of a mini-revolt that has been simmering among us empiring types. While few of us would want unrestricted recruiting mayhem and cutthroat competition in the General Forum, there is a feeling that we have been segregated from the community when, bluntly put, we are a large part of the community. Sure, some self-restraint is required so that empiring doesn't turn the General Forum into the
For too long we've been trying to help hide this GROSS sized coal pile in the forum ballroom. So I agree; let's put Threadzilla back on the top page once in a while where she belongs. If we are going to keep charging towards the top, we may as well be front and center.
Time for an update. No need for a top 25 player rundown any more, as the non-maso players have been long driven out of that territory and the suicidal level experiment is over. Even the top 50 will soon be non-maso free. Top 50 Players Cakewalk : 0 Easy : 0 Simple : 0 Beginner : 0 Normal : 0 Challenging: 0 Tough : 0 Painful : 0 Crippling : 1 Masochistic:49 Toughness : 9.98. Yep, exactly the same as last report.
The current calander seems a bit absent of summer holidays, so: Aldarian Harvest Day, August 21st: Celebrates bountiful yields of barley, wheat, corn, rice, and other crops that can be made into booze. Of course, the new harvest is honored by drinking up what is left of the old booze stocks and behaving badly.
The update scheduled for today has been cancelled. The Spymaster is temporarily out of commission due to illness.
It is half time in the Clone Wars and the teams of allied empires are in the throes of fierce competition. But, for the other folks not in those empires, there is still a lot of excitement to be had. Version 1.2 and AP are re-igniting interest around the Meta. The report has now been updated to reflect the demise of the obscene/suicidal level experiment found in some early AP builds. There is no maso but maso now. Old suicidal games still in the records have been counted as maso. <
The Clone Wars are in full swing, and here is the promised update: Top 25 Players Cakewalk : 0 Easy : 0 Simple : 0 Beginner : 0 Normal : 0 Challenging: 0 Tough : 0 Painful : 0 Crippling : 0 Masochistic:20 Suicidal : 5 Toughness : 10.2, they are definitely playing for keeps up here. Top 50 Players Cakewalk : 0 Easy : 0 Simple : 0 Beginner : 0 Normal : 0 Challen
The mightiest empires of the Meta are about to clash in the Clone Wars throughout the month of March, but who says anyone has been waiting until March to get the party started! The most active imperial overlords and orphans alike are already starting to raise the stakes with version 1.2 and AP. The magic 10 difficulty has been broken not only for the top 25, but for the top 50 as well. Top 25 Players Cakewalk : 0 Easy : 0 Simple : 0 Beginner : 0 Normal
I was dissapointed when I realized he was talking about the orignal GalCiv and looked at the date.
Just the opposite here. I reflect on how far this game has come even in my 11 month time here and I am still amazed, so a look way back to the very start is very interesting to me.
I once ran across a thread where a few players were using destabilization to force a (potential?) enemy to counter by funding propaganda at their planets.
That is my way of doing it. But instead of going gangbusters and dumping a lot of money on a short term investment, I spend years upon years building slow, crushing pressure. Start with a token investment at the bare minimum when you first meet the race, then over the course of the game slowly increase the spending notc
Call me paranoid, but it is a wise rule to play a game complete under one version before going to another. Some of us old timers had a ton of problems with trying to make cross-saved files work back when, so we don't try that anymore.
It only harasses me. I watched it pass right by another race's colony ship yet go out of its' way to attack mine.
How to play with Sharkie, simplified guide: Spare one small ship, such as a scout, to lead Sharkie. Stay three squares ahead at all times. Lead Sharkie in direction of alien you wish to punish. When Sharkie very near target, burn away at full speed for a couple of turns, but preferably deeper into alien space and not back tracking into your own until
