BTW I also have seen the AI giving ships around to players involved in wars a LOT more. Both to me, and to other players ( I see different race ships in the fleets I see moving around.) Way Cool.

I see the AI improvement as a direct result of Frogboy's tweaking it to be more competitive on larger maps. Most of the early play testing was done on smaller maps. It's nice to see continuous hard work at improving the AI start showing up in game play. BTW I did turn the "AllowCPUIntensiveAlgorithms=1" switch in my 1.20.11 Beta 2 pref.ini file on. I don't think that is doing anything yet, but I am looking forward to when it does.

I am playing a huge map right now and I think the AI response to declaring war has been spot on. At first they were battling among themselves but after I quickly took out two races and became the larger empire my next logical targets declared war on me one turn after another. The most logical target but strongest military AI (Alterians) declared war on me. It occured away from where my main fleet was concentrated. The next turn my other end neighbor (Arceans) declared

On large huge maps I use P4 all the time as mini shipyards creating fighters transports and constructors. I see the AI building a lot of very powerful attack fighters in the late game. So I see this AI tactic as legitimate. Although the AI is not as good as an experienced player at assembling fleets and striking out.

Never seen them come back to win, but when they all gang up on me they make it interesting, They sometimes together have the potential to destroy me if I would sit back instead of taking the fight to them.. I usually build very fasst ships and transports in the endgame and mop them up.

Speed Kills. A ships speed makes no difference in the tactical resolution of the battle. But..... Strategically speed is decisive. It allows you to attack (non- orbital fleet structure defended) planets multiple times per turn. If there are 20 ships there you must pound at it 20 times when they don't defend as a fleet. Might slow you down. Each attack takes a movement point. Speed allows you to keep on killing like a predator when you have

I agree the mystery laser burst from the dead ship locationm is kinda mood disturbing, I've just learned to ignore the locations of the balast and concentrate on the impacts. It would be nice if the explosions were after those final lase r burst from the dying ships.

Your not really destroying the population. Your just supressing taxpayers. Eventually they come back to understanding how wonderful your way of life is.

I'm finding that the AI is placing one of two high defense medium atk strength large hulled ships with a herd of small ships around it in a fleet. It is not a bad strategy as the smaller ships fire enough times that they were destroying my medium defense ships initially. I had a battle where I could not penetrate one of the AI's ships and it eventually chewed up my fleet. I had to compensate with a mixed fleet of superior huge and large hulled ships with defenses of my own and a ma

Yipes..... I see no bugs in that post that really weren't fixed in the latest 1.2.11 Beta. maybe, if he played a game to conclusion, he might understand how the parts fit together. On point that is valid, with all the new UI tweaks and numerous upgrades the 1.2 version is so diffrent than the original game that a lot of the tutorials, new player guide and manual stuff is obsolete or confusing. Remember, old programming phrase " That's not a bug, its a feature!"

In a huge galaxy the AI is pumping out a lot of ships with high attack value and a has a few large ships with a large defense. Under 1.2, I now have to build large ships to have weapons capable of penetrating the shields of their large ships and shielded enough to withstand the return fire of the mass of their little ships with high attack values firing back at me.

I am currently playing a long game (1.211 Beta ) in a huge galaxy with 9 players. Suicidal Level. Long game with very aggressive AI. As the game has progressed, the new combat system and new AI effectiveness, has seemed to make defensive armament more of a necessity in a long game. Fleets of large and huge hulled vessels are now floating around and the AI has starting generating nicely built mixed fleets. I have found that a mixed fleet of a few huge or la

My upgrade all ships is working fine. I did it twice last night All values for the various financing options seems to be exactely multiplied by the numbers of ships. I tried upgrade for the Mitrosoft option and it properly took the downpayment cash. The battles look different (better) Are the example fleet formations included in the base game now? Played six hours on a huge universe. Very stable. No issues, except lag in calculations on the civ manager scree

You can also use the run command on the start button to run the program "msconfig.exe" Under the startup tab their are options to uncheck pragrams which load on startup. If you uncheck some you need you will be prompted to restart them during your windows session. Also , watch your antivirus program during installation or when you start the game. Have you gotten Stardock central to load and run properly?

Check that you are using the latest video drivers for your system. You can search the forums for more info. Also the "string not found error" was a recent problem killed in the latest beta version posted on Jun 2. You might want to try the 1.20.011 Beta, (check the see pre-release version box in SDC) It is mostly stable and soved quite a few memory issues. Good luck and thank you for your service to your country.

If you download the Stardock utility you can use Stardock Central to download updates to the game. If you check the box to see pre-release versions you can download the Beta versions, which are updates that are not quite finished yet. They may have some minor bugs in them but they are the latest and most improved versions of the game. So install from the CD first or get the initial 1.1 download first , they go to SDC for the beta.

The question is how effectively the AI can use the carrier concept. If the CPU time won't allow a way to use it it gives the human player a real advantage. If the AI can't figure it out it becomes unbalancing. Wwe just got the AI right on building structures on planets and creating normal fleets in the latest beta.........
