[quote]the amount of money they demand for bribes doesn't increase proportionally.[/quote] one of the biggest flaws in the AI right now imo.

Couslee, you mainly play small maps judging by your Metaverse submissions. I think the consensus is that good is better on the large maps, and evil is best on the small maps. If you're on a tiny map and you only get two stars, then obviously picking the +40% PQ bonus is the way to go because you've given half the planets in your empire a +40% PQ bonus. If you're playing Huge/Abundant and you have 40 stars, then the +40% PQ bonus to one planet has only a tiny effect on the overall produc
I'm interested but I'd want more details about the PBEM concept.
On maso on maps above Tiny I usually cede all the early game TGs to the AI. I try to get everything after Nano-Metal Composition but I don't stress too much about it.
[quote]The AI, from my understanding, only respects attack points, so build starfighters rather than defenders.[/quote] I believe this was changed a couple patches ago. The AI respects defense points now. The strategy guide is probably the way to go for now. This board is very good if you have specific questions, though.
Very nice, everyone :)
This is a pretty good idea. Maso should *definitely* be in a different category, though. The difference between crippling and maso is far greater than the difference between crippling and, say, normal (and the devs seem to at last be recognizing this). A problem, though: how would you score empires? [Message Edited]
It depends on the terror star upgrades. It's just like taking out a starbase. If it has no defense upgrades, almost anything can destroy a terror star.
A bit of background: my original story involving the tower is in posts 99-101. For the purposes of this story, I'm capitalizing my name. But I generally don't. Your turn, H5O :) [Message Edited]
Back at his tower, Vincible at last felt secure. Here was one of the world’s few focal points of magic, where the arcane forces were strongest. Vincible had first found the tower a very long time ago, and over the centuries had laid down a vast web of spells designed to make the place his own. Here, he could draw on all the magic flowing through this focal point and turn it to his own ends. Here, he was the most powerful mage alive. Once he left the tower, of course, that would no long
I think tiny/rare is easiest. The AI doesn't adequately defend its homeworld, and since most AIs only get one world you can sneak in a fleet to invade and destroy them while their military is busy elsewhere. [Message Edited]
Great! If you plan on doing it again, check out the Masochistic Strategies thread in the GC Strategies forum. Also, if you feel like empiring, you might want to consider joining the Fellowship, which has quite a few active maso players within it who enjoy discussing the strategy of that level.
Qui-Gon, does that work 1 credit gifting stuff work for you on maso? I thought it worked on crippling but not maso, but I can't play now because I'm moving into a new place, so I can't test it out.
You are mistaken ;) http://www.galciv.com/docs/undocs.html "2/3rd you Research ability goes into “free” research production with the last third put into your base production. By contract, 2/3rd of your improvements to a planet go into your base research production with the last third counted as free." If that doesn't make sense, read the link.
Usually tech. It helps to have a high diplomatic rating. [Message Edited]
In my opinion, bribes are cheaper than a paper tiger military. I've often gotten to Dreadnaught Technology without building a single ship.
Oh, I forgot the *really* evil part. Sometimes you can't declare war by attacking them, because they're too far away, and you can't declare war by gifting a declaration to another major, because once you've given the minor your cash you raise your relations to friendly and the option no longer appears in the Diplomatic screen. So to be safe, you gift a starfighter or something along with the 5000 or whatever BC, so you can blow it away later that turn and be sure of declaring war on that minor b
Ray, what you do is give them a gift of 5000 BC, then go to war with them that turn and demand your 5000 BC for 50 months. Works beautifully. A new minor is an auto-win if you do it right.
This is interesting... I'm wondering where you're going with this, and you're no doubt wondering where I'm going. Hmm... going to bed now but I'll post another part tomorrow.
You might find this thread helpful. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?id=87605&BID=GF&page=1#90850 It's more complete and unbiased than any poll is likely to be. Also, if you want to know what a particular player does, you can just click on their name and see all the games they've submitted.
A blog is permanent, like a web site, and generally has high-quality writing, not chat. Example: that Iraqi blogger I mentioned http://dearraed.blogspot.com/ [Message Edited]
I thought everyone did that ;) [Message Edited]
A typical blog is run by one person, who frequently (sometimes daily) posts updates about whatever he wants to write about. Some of the most famous ones deal with politics. Some influential pundits post blogs with their analyses of current events. There was an Iraqi blogger who posted from Baghdad during the war who drew enormous interest. And so on. Others just have to do with the life of the blogger--people talking about their jobs, their thoughts on family, or whatever. I'm

Here's mine. I primarily play maso. 100% to military for first ships (colony ships and scouts, ratio and order depends on star density, clustering, and details of the star distribution) When I feel like I have "enough" colony ships, switch to 100% social and get soil on every world. Excess production goes to entertainment. Switch to 100% research, and adjust main spending slider to minimize waste. Research communication and universal translator. Research medica
