For people looking for a solution to the same problem have a read of the thread on tenforums which works great http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/25406-removing-dead-icons-start-menu-all-apps.html
One thing I noticed is when I enable the The hidden built-in elevated Admin account on the 2nd desktop and log in the shortcut is not there but so far I'm not able to suss out what is the difference between the accounts.
Thanks RedneckDude. I've searched through every possible location in my user profile and Windows in general and removed any search icons I could find as well as removed any folders with Cortana as I tweaked her out of the system (Nothing is broken so far) When I right click the Search entry I can only pin to start which doesn't change anything. I have another desktop I use for experiments and it has the same shortcut and so far I have not been able to find how to remove it
Hi all Just joined here as seems like a great place to hang out and learn as well as hopefully be able to help So here is a problem I can't seem to resolve after weeks of searching as well as experimenting at home. After disabling and uninstalling Cortana, Edge and others as well as Search I ended up with 2 dead icons in the All apps menu one for Search and one for Edge. When I drag the Search icon to the desktop it's named as: @{Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_1.4.8.
