Balancing an RTS is difficult. It’s a long, iterative process and, inevitably, there will be mistakes along the way. Today, I'll be exploring what makes balancing an RTS such a challenge, and explain my intentions for some of the changes I've made throughout my time with Ashes. In a previous Dev Journal, I discussed <a href="../487836/dev-journal-why-balance-matters" target="_blank" rel="

G'day! Today I'll be talking about the upcoming 2.75 update for Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation and some cool things that have been happening in the community. 2.75 will contain a large number of gameplay changes, but I'll only mention the most significant ones. You can view the full changelog here. <

Video games are the ultimate form of entertainment media, encapsulating all other media forms and adding interactivity on top of it. In a video game, you can read lore and dialogue, watch cutscenes, listen to music, have a shared experience, among many other unique ways you can be engaged. In essence, there’s nothing that a book or a movie can do that a video game can’t, and the ability to combine all of these with an interactive narrative can create incredibly powerful experience
To this day, Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation is still receiving balance updates. You may be wondering - since Ashes is not a competitive game like StarCraft - why there is all of this effort being put into balance. There can be a misconception that balance is esoteric and only matters to high level players, but I don't think that's accurat
Nice work Peter! :D
Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation embarked on a remarkable journey throughout 2017 to get to where it is now. It's something I am very proud of. In a previous Dev Journal I mentioned how I often get nostalgic thinking back to all
I rush the southern entrance and fortify that ASAP, not only does it give you more resources you also just have way more room to build stuff. The first thing I build is a Sentinel to counter the Avengers, a couple of Smarties and immediately rush out an Energy Projector to get the Drone Bay to deal with all the Frigates. Drone bays are amazing against frigates while other PHC defenses are not. Then I build lots of Barragers, Sentinels and Repair Bays while building up Refineries an
Is it cheating if I enter with all my unused 4k marketing screenshots? ;D
Cool! Glad you're enjoying it. :D
Hey guys! I've been working at Stardock for a bit over a year now as a designer on Ashes of the Singulairty: Escalation. It's been an incredible journey, so I wanted to share my experience of how I got here and what it's been like. [[..]] How did I get started working at Stardock? I've practically dedicated my entire adult career to the
Every game on Steam has their own Steam forums. They are entirely separate to our forums here, but we are active there.
Ashes requires probably the lowest APM of any RTS I have played. There's lots of management and complexity, but hardly any micro and it's not APM intensive, it just requires you to think about stuff and make changes where neccesary. The strategy in real-time strategy in emphasized in Ashes.
Have you tried verifying integrity of game cache? That should download all the required files. Otherwise this is all the .DLL files in my game directory.
Hello! I am encountering the same problem. (I am happy to see that I'm not alone to launch games without admin rights!) It is exactly the same description. I can see the launcher but the game won't starts. But how can you launch the game with DirectX 11? I can't launch the game to change this option! Maybe someone know how to add dependencies manually for launch the game with DirectX 12? [/quo
I love the fast-paced rush of StarCraft, the tactics of Company of Heroes, and the intricate micro of Command and Conquer. Although Supreme Commander is on the opposite end of the RTS spectrum, it resonated with me, and many LANs of my teenage years were spent playing it. To this day, Supreme Commander is still one of my all-time favorite RTS games and I play it on FAF (Forged Alliance Forever) from time to time. Supreme Commander is a large scale RTS from 2007; its meticulous design, backed
Quoting GeneralsGentlemen, I would love it if people tried out how to make a mod, scenario, or map, and reported to me anywhere they got stuck on something that wasn't explained or not explained well on the modding wiki so I can update and add more information. <p class="M
What difficulty are you playing on? This mission is supposed to be difficult and the Experimental Eye is supposed to be insane. :D
Art design is one of the many components of video games that's subconsciously appreciated but rarely expressed and understood. If a game's art direction works, it just works, and the player isn’t required to dwell on it. I had little regard for unit design until I started as a designer on Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation, where I am now required to be cognizant of the many subtleties of game design
There is a replay channel in the official Ashes discord. Replays from tournaments and great matches are posted there. https://discord.gg/TSnwjT8
For some reason this will not update for me. Reset steam 4 times. The version on the launch screen still shows 2.70. Did you add a code to the opt in? The version on the executables shows 2.70.30910.0
You're right, thanks for catching that. Should be fixed later today.
G'day! **2.71** Yesterday we launched the 2.71 update which featured a number of changes to air units and some improvements to Scenarios and Campaigns. With King of the Hill and Overlord tweaked, this now means almost every Scenario and almost every C
Wow that's strange, I dunno why it says such a high DPS on the tooltip, but I can assure you it's not actually that powerful. The Apollo has more damage.
I didn't figure it was the game as such. I was wondering if a thousand+ frigates + an old 1gb video card might be a problem.
Ah probably, the minimum system requirements is a 2gb card. " Graphics: 2 GB GDDR5 NVidia GeForce 660 / AMD "
You can opt-in to the 2.65 build under steam betas to play your old save games.
