On this same wish list, I'd like to change the human color to something easier to see. On my (admittedly older) monitor, dark blue is really hard to see. Wonder if race color could be made an option in a future version or patch?

I've been away from the game awhile, just got GalCiv AP. In original GC, I made some modifications to Core Events and Bonus Events, no problems. Questions: 1) Will they work with AP as is? 2) If so, where to put them? 3) If not, can they be modified for AP? How? Thanks!!!! Jellis2

The earlier post was correct, MOO3 is very different from MOO2 (and GalCiv is more like Civilization). I bought it early, was extremely disapointed, waited, got the patch, played some more -- and remained disappointed. True, some people like it, and I wish I was one of them, but... Too many details to manage, yet not enough control over many facets of empire building and warfare. The viceroy is susposed to take care of a lot of that, but guess what...it didn't. I found the star-lane forma

I'm back...finally! New hard drive and all. Copied some of the last saves to a ZIP drive, got the new drive instalaled, reinstalled the game, reloaded the saved games -- and the load time for them was down to about 2 minutes (from almost 20 at the last!). Yup, musta'v been the drive. Crapnecticut, I delete the older saves regularly. It didnt' seem to help in my case. CariElf, I know what you mean. But the drive that failed was my D: drive, used just for games. And for saving stuff,

OK, come to find out, there IS a problem with the hard drive. I'll have to replace it. Don't know how long that will take, but when it's done, I'll reinstall and try to load one of the saved games (assuming we can ghost them over to the new drive). I'll get back to this post later...I just don't know when "later" will be. Meanwhile, thanks to all for help and suggestions!

CariElf: That's a though...I haven't run defrag in a long, long time. And, as you suggest, me and the AI have tons of ships (well, anyway, me and the Torians). I thought the game was almost over and I could reinstall and load a saved game, but the darn AI just won't roll over and die as it ought to. I'll defrag today (I hope) and post the results. Thanks!

AmulekBird: Both. It happens either way! But you're right, I first noticed when I tried reloading 3 or 4 times with the game already running -- it just got slower and slower. Exit the game and start over, and it loads saved games faster. For a while. At the point I'm at now, it's an 11-12 minute wait either way. Frankly, if it continues like this after I reinstall, I'm going to scrap the whole thing.

Primus, I keep about 10-12 saves, and they all take too long to load (I tried), If I reinstall, I'll keep the saves, but...I hope it's not the saved games that are themselves the problem. Guess there's only one way to find out. Thanks!

Hi Blueroach, thanks! Using Norton (just renewed subscription and patches are up to date) and Zone Alarm. Ran a complete check after all this started, the computer is clean. Nothing else is showing any signs of trouble, and I use a lot of games and commercial software. The more I think about it, the more inclined I am to reload the entire game. But I'm still open to suggestion...

Bill, I don't think it's hardware going bad -- no problems elsewhere on other games and programs. And yes, the problem has to do with loading a saved game; the longer I play (real-time hours)the longer it takes to load. When I started this game, it took about 10 seconds to load a game; 11+ minutes now, by the clock! I'm thinking of reinstalling, tho, because with all the patches, and the fact that I've had GalCiv on the drive for months, maybe it's a game-corrupt-file issue or something simil

I'm playing GalCiv v.1.13, giantic universe, near the end of the game, I think (only me and 2 civs left). Playing on a P4, 1.7 GHz with 512 Memory, and a GeForce4 Ti4200 video card, all running under Win2000. The game takes 11 minutes to load. This can't be normal. Can it? My watch is working fine, so tell me I'm doing somthing else wrong. Please!

Spellforce: Thanks! I'll be back! Seeker Master: Uh...tried your linkes, but how to get in touch? At the moment, I'd only like to try modifying a couple of the planetary events and, maybe later, do a complete mod. Time, intelligence, job and wife permitting, of course. Are there instructions/hints/help somewhere for newbies trying to edit bonus events or create mods? I've looked at the Excel view of bonus events, but a lot of it is meaningless (to me, anyway). Looked in the GalCiv Encyclopedia, but didn't see anything obvious there. Any help appreciated.

I use something like Greldon's map, but it's a simple page-size grid I create in my word processor. If a game sector has a 13 or 14 in it I write a tiny 13 or 14 in the grid square corresponding to that sector, then colonize when I need to or want to. I do the same for anomalies, rocks, etc. as well as enemy-held systems. I put a bit of color (yellow magic marker) on my sectors, so it's easy to tell at a glance where everything is - especially systems you want to subvert!

Hope I can ask this correctly: Do all planetary specials affect that planet only, or do some have a universal effect? For example, does "starship bonus" refer to all starships you build anywhere, or only the ones built at that planet? Same for "research bonus," etc. Some specials are obviously planet-only (planet quality, etc.) but I wonder about the others. Thanks! [Message Edited]

Good thread, and informative. Thanks everyone. Still, I wish there were an easier way to find trade routes on the larger maps. That teeny little map on the Trade tab is no help at all. But if it can be shown on that map, why not on the tactical map (F9)? And by the way, why not put planet names on the tactical map, too, for those who want them? Just sign me "wishful thinking!!!" :notsure:

I probably missed this in the list somewhere, but something I'd like to see is an easier way to tell which planets are in the trade routes. Looking for and following those tiny trader ships is not my idea of fun. And of course the big star maps don't show this either. OK, just a wish, if anyone is still reading these pages. :d Oh, just though of this: Rushing a build list. I've noticed that the cost of rushing a project (ship or social) is the same at all times. That is, on turn 1

Good grief, Charlie Brown. This is a pot full of great ideas. In fact, they read like a (mostly) new game. I sincerely hope they get implemented, in an expansion set or GalCiv2. Things I'd like to see (probably already mentioned): 1) More control over, or possibilities for, upgrading planets in the 10 to 14 range. Especially in early or mid-game. 2) More options in dialog between races, especially having the AI offer to trade or suggesting what he/she would like in return fo

On the encyclepodia site, Brad Wardell has 5 sample games he played. Question for Brad (or anyone else for that matter): In all 5 games, you seem to be able to build Constructors at will, and battleships almost as easily. How is that? Reason I ask is that in the few games I've played (won some, lost some) it takes about 40 to 50 turns before constructor production **starts** to pick up. When I start out, most planets will take 35 to 50 turns to produce ONE constructor! About half-way throu

Wonk's idea about starbases with strong culture components works for me too. Also, building cultural facilities on planets near your neighbors seems to help. As for build list, I used just about the same as Ellestar and that seems to work, too. I usually add the news network in as the 4th or 5th build. I try to spread trade around, if I can. On a post somewhere else it was suggested that you make your trade route in a line that is very close to as many of your planets as possible.
