I like tourism the way it is, but I would like to see some 300% influence bonus tiles. A few randomly-placed influence-bomb planets would spice up the game. I could see planting an influence starbase on unclaimed space if there were some red extreme colonization planets in the starbase's sphere. Then besides getting the tourism, you can start flipping the planets once the AI decides to colonize them. Now that makes sense.

Generally speaking, I fail to see why you would want to get tourism from unclaimed space with an influence starbase when you could be stealing tourism from another AI by claiming their space instead. You risk pissing them off, though. But almost always there is at least one AI near you whom you don't mind pissing off a little.

During the colony rush it is best not to build anything at all on new planets... except of course, to build on a serious tile bonus and or planets you wan't to use for secondary colony ship production. I always build on all manufacturing and research tiles during colony rush. However, I may postpone upgrading to Xeno Lab or regular Factory to save on maintenance, depending on where my Social/Research sliders are and where that planet fits into my over

I have definitely seen this same type of behavior, and not just for bonus tiles. I can have two Basic Factories, on the same planet, neither is a bonus tile--and rush-upgrading to a factory on one tile will be more expensive than the exact same upgrade on the other. It makes no sense. I also have the same problem of the time-to-upgrade times being wrong. That happens all the time. I just have to do the math in my head.

It's planet by planet. Are you SURE you're not hitting either the PQ limit OR the food limit?

Maybe the other 5% he doesn't research ethics? That's exactly what it is. 5% of my games I'm done before I even research Xeno Ethics. Sometimes I even get an influence victory before the colony rush is over. Of course, that's a telltale sign that you need to bump up the difficulty. I sure appreciate the smart-a** response from Serrian, though. It's the thought the counts. Always good to know you're loved.

This is new information to me. The Counter Espionage Centers give 20% morale boost?? I thought that was the Secret Police Center, which I have always regarded worthless. If that's the case, CEC's are going to be a great way to beat getting ganged up on. What I have always done is, I spy on them first, before they spy on me. That way spies are a pain in THEIR back--not mine. And I'm getting really nice intelligence on them. But I'm not getting ganged up on by 8 civilizations, ei

I have never gotten a minor race and i have played 20+ games or so. So how do you get minor races anyways? Are you playing DA? There's an option in the startup screen where you can manually select the # of minor races.

Ditto. Espionage is very cool. One big thing people may not realize is, once you reach Advanced espionage level, you see all their ships' autopilot routes. You couple that with Eyes of the Universe, and you know EVERYTHING about that race. They're not going to blind-side you on anything. So it's a very good idea to espionage every race you can that's not at Advanced already, even during peacetime, because when war does start, seeing their autopilots is a huge advantage. Once you reach

captYar, that's, like, a really nice tip. A Tiny Hull is only 25bc. That's only 150bc to rush build every turn, if the planet couldn't just produce that on its own. LOL, plunking down 25bc a turn, to postpone getting invaded...that's nothing. That's one of the best tips for beating Suicidal I have heard since the tech-trade nerfing patch. (I know you're probably going to say you don't play Suicidal, but trust me--that's a darn good Suicidal tip)

I like putting Ion Engines on transports and colony ships both, just because population on transports doesn't make you any money. But if I've got planets running into food or morale limits, the priority is to make cheaper transports, to bleed some off the planet and quickly. Those transports just kind of work their way toward the front lines, ferrying population along the way. But if I'm Super Breeder, bleh, whatever--who cares if a couple billion are on a transport. You'll grow that

Most of ny troop transports consist of a tiny hull with a single advanced troop mod. The thought behind this is that a tiny hull is cheaper than a cargo hull, so the ship would be cheaper. It ends up not being cheaper, but I do like the tiny hulls more than cargo hulls. They have more than one HP, thus if you choose to add a weapon, and fly them in small packs, then they can escort themselves, atleast against small attacks. You must be at a really high

The only time I ever fleet transports is when I use Mini Soldiers. If you're using Traditional Warfare (or if you have No Mercy Invasion Center), it really doesn't matter whether you fleet or not; might as well attack separately and let the law of averages give you a more predictable result. If you use Info Warfare, you're going to convert the same population whether you fleet or not--you might as well not. I don't even like fleeting my transports when I use Mass Drivers, cause her

I think the last two posts are unnecessarily acrimonious. I think the term "pales" was just shorthand for Palestinians, that's all. However, the regard for the Palestinians as the barbaric, terrorist second-class citizens and Israelis are the big & bad "chosen people" is indeed racist, and that needs to stop. Besides, the Palestinians aren't relevant to the subject of this thread: Iraq. The Israelis are.

Suppose, via saving and reloading a metaverse game, you're able to identify a +25% tech anomaly and reserve it for later. Then, when you're 75% done researching Xeno Ethics, you can send your treasury below -10k rushbuying something huge (Orbital Terraformer... as if Evil wasn't strong enough already? Some dominating ship?) and harvest the anomaly to immediately get your treasury reset to zero? Yes, you can do that, and I mentioned this before, but I con

Many of us particulary play this game for the pure joy of discovering theese precious, special worlds. I totally agree. Bonus tiles are what gives this game some spice. I would like to see more variety in the kinds of bonus tiles you get, more so than I care how often the ones that show up now, do. Like if you could have 100%, 200%, 300%, 400%, ... 700% tiles, and not just 100/300/700. Or let's see some 200% approval and influence bonus tiles. Or

The USS Cole attacked and damaged with loss of life (act of war, no response from the US), The French tanker "Limberg" was also bombed off the coast of Yemen not long thereafter, on October 5, 2002. This was arguably even bigger than the USS Cole: CNN Link This was just days ahead of a key UN Security Council vote, authorizing the use of force against Iraq. Al
