I am playing my second game and have not changed my government thus far. I seem to be "winning" anyway. In my first game I changed to a republic and the only notiicable difference was elections and voting on going to war. What effects do the different governments have? I would assume that republic and democracy would lead to a higher morale level, but I can't say I noticed it in my first game. Also, do they lead to a problem declaring war? I am fairly new to the game, but is it possible that you can only find out the actual tech level, etc. through espionage? I am not that familiar with that part of the game, so maybe it is not the case. Either way, the graphs are misleading.

I have just started playing the game and have a few questions. I completed one game on a medium map with 'common' inhabitable planets and all the aliens set to 'fool.' It was too easy, but used it to get the hang of a few things. I then started a large map with 'occasional' inhabitable planets and all the aliens set to the next level up, which I think is 'beginner.'
