I have movies in DVD that i have had for 10+ years and they still play fine. So what's going on?
Commercially produced optical discs have the data physically stamped into them (similar to a record, but read with a laser instead of a needle). Consumer writers on the other hand use discs with dyes or phase-change materials which change in reflectivity when 'burned'. These dyes are more subject to breakdown due to light, temperature, etc.
Most of the times dirty contacts are the problem.
Alcohol works fine on things with exposed contacts... microswitches don't normally have exposed contacts, so even if that is the cause, dumping it on top isn't liable to do much. My experience has generally been that button failure is due to plastic part wear, or the solder joints cracking. YMMV.

With some luck that might clean it.
Given that the button for the wheel is generally to the side (so drenching the wheel wouldn't hit it anyway), and the switch is more likely worn and broken than dirty, I'd save the alcohol and just buy a new one. The actual contacts are sealed inside

It's common knowledge that they're specifically licensing them for royalty revenue, and have been for several years. Revoking them (if even possible) would only hurt them.

Unless you are just looking for a bare disc, boxed copies (even if they don't wind up on store shelves) are an extra cost and have scheduling requirements on top of that; we used to do

Schemas are already included with the game in alpha. We are perfectly fine with user-created modding tools, there were some of these for past games as well. I wouldn't expect to see a dedicated editor purely for custom race appearances. That would be an awful lot of scope for something that is ultimately a pretty small part of the game (the pictures in diplomacy screens). But since you can put images and videos in there, if there is any such thing out there somewher

The game not starting or even installing i get, but not downloading?
Steam delivers the appropriate codebase for the OS you are running... and if you are running 32bit Windows XP, there is no such code.

The token system was terminated a few years ago (when TGN was retired in favor of Impulse), and we've since gotten out of third party game sales entirely (Impulse is now owned by GameStop). Emails went out to everyone at that time with directions on how to redeem any outstanding tokens. If you missed that, you can email [email protected], but it's hard to say if there will be anything that can be done about it four years later.
WARNING: MODIFYING GAME FILES MAY HAVE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES. STARDOCK AND MYSELF ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING BREAKS AS A RESULT OF EXPERIMENTATION, AND THEREFORE DOING SUCH IS DISCOURAGED AT THIS POINT IN TIME*
Yeah, we generally prefer being able to know that we are fixing our own bugs and not any introduced by mods.
