Hah I wish plephart... actually I've been getting lots of ctd's and I just haven't gotten the time to reinstall GC and go at it again since I've been busy recarpeting and repainting my livingroom yesterday, today and probably tomorrow (and reading the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide when I'm not busy)... maybe by midweek though I'll be able to get back into things and when I do LOOK OUT! :P

Try looking for desk.cpl in windows/system32 (this is on 2000/XP) If you're on 9x, I don't know if the name is the same but it should be in windows/system. If you're on NT, just try looking for *.cpl and run whichever one looks like the right one (I've never used NT so I can't tell you anything about it, but it shouldn't be much different from the others if at all). I've never been on a restricted access machine so I don't know if this method will work, but it should judging by what Ca

Chantillary, the scoring got screwed up in the latest version. Frogboy said that there is a ^.75 missing from the in-game display formula so your scores will report very high in game. You can get a calculator and raise your score to the .75 power, and it will come out to exactly what the metaverse reports.

Like redshift, I tend to play it slow and build up all of my planets... my games generally last till 2215-2230 on huge-gigantic, but I don't milk it even though I play a long game. I think the highest pop I've ever gotten is around 4.7t... the 8116 pointer I posted last night surprised me as much as anybody (and can be chalked up to the pop modifier not being subtracted in the new patch) since I didn't play it very differently from my previous games. But anyhow, since I play on normal I'll be go
The goal was to have something like this: Win: Gigantic / Masochistic: ~15,000 Win: Tiny / Masochistic: ~4,000 Win: Gigantic / Normal AI: ~3,000 WIn: Tiny / Normal: ~800
[screams in agony] Noooo! Once this happens I'll have to start playing on harder than normal difficulty (and given that I'm really not that good, I'll be back down to #50-75 or something if I'm lucky)... Oh well, being in the top 10 was fun while it lasted I guess :( I'll leave it to peop

This also leads to the fact that as GC does not require the CD to play, there is nothing at all stopping the seller from continuing to play now on an essentially 'free' game since he sold the CD (getting his money back) to you but still has the license... so unless he's willing to give you the account too, then sorry buddy but you got screwed...

Interesting... as soon as I saw the subject line on the main page, this exact same idea occured to me before I even laid my eyes on the post... It's simple, elegant, and should be fairly easy to integrate it into the game, so let's hope somebody sees this and slips it into the next patch or the expansion :P

I also have noticed that the game doesn't recognize AIs as being defeated completely (they disappear from the diplomacy screens, but still declare war on you if you attack their allies) when they are totally overpowered culturally and absorbed... I had this happen in a game the other day but I don't remember if it was before or after 1.04... apperently it's still there though.

I finally put in my PC Gamer CD that I got the other day and there's a GalCiv demo on it... I don't know if there's a demo anywhere else but to be sure you can always go grab the July issue of PCG. It might also be on StarDock Central (which you should be able to grab in the Downloads section), but I can't say for certain since I have the retail copy (so thats what it shows for me)...
There are 25 ship types for GC. In all of the SW movies to date, I don't think there are more than 9 or 10 ships for even the most fleshed out group
There should be plenty of ships if you gather from the X-Wing/TIE games or Extended Universe, although modders may need to take a little liberty when matching up which ships should replace which, as not all ships have an evquivalent on the other side... ~SDC~
