they appear randomly, but afaik they don't disappear. the reason you can't save em though is because other races will pick them up too.

i can attest to this. it's the whole "one more turn" mentality that gets ya.
only if i'm evil and i hit the event that reduces the lease duration at least a couple of times and typically only for trade goods/wonders.
Or use same graphics elements but just increase map area shown. The Operational Art of War did exactly this.Think about playing game in windowed mode and when resizing window main map area would just get bigger/smaller. No need to do extra graphics etc.
that's all *I'm* looking for. maybe it's just me, but i think it kinda sucks having to scroll to do something simple like telling a constructor to go upgrade a starbase that's in an adjacent sector.
It wasn't a beta patch. It was a ready to go "Data" patch released by the devs. It's been out for about a month or so. This new patch is a "Code" patch. Also released by the devs. For the all knowledgeable someone who claims that everyone that doesn't like it hasn't played the game or doesn't know about it, I would think you would have realized we are not talking a beta patch here.
maybe, but the *code* patch is a beta and the final version of that is supposed to accomo
i just joined. i'm from vancouver, bc.
i suspect that it would be too much work for them to evaluate the (potentially numerous) ai mods to ensure that someone hadn't put in some easily exploitable weakness in it to boost their score.
my bad. i thought i was able to trade away things that i had traded for. musta gotten it confused with tech.
what does the creativity pick do? i've read the description but it seemed pretty vague...does it just generate more morality events?
depends on the situation. never in the expansion phase of the game, but later on i will if it'll get me something decent in return. if i do trade it, i tend to trade it to everyone since only peddling to the minor races just means the minor races reap the benefits of trading it to everyone else...
the new icon says i'm "very good" while the only game i've submitted has me at "pure evil"...huh?
what? there's *counter* espionage? 1 don't know. 2 it's possible but tends to be highly unlikely. 3&4 the limit to benefit is some multiplier of the planet's planet quality, not sure what the actual number is though. typically i don't bother with more than one unless there's the UP ruling in effect that limits the number of modules on a starbase. 5 not that i know. 6 yes. however, i'm pretty sure you can trade for them and make use of them that way.
terraforming is pretty late along the tech progression, but it does eventually become available. sorry i can't quote you the quickest path to get there.
On Large or bigger maps tech victory becomes a "legit" option as it is entirely possible you will be able to reach Final Frontier long before you can wipe everyone out or achieve an alliance. As LDiCesare points out, it becomes even more viable when you're not dominating at all.On Medium and smaller, going for tech is more of an excercise in completism as it is rare that you won't have achieved an alternative winning condition long before you can get it.
aahhh, that
every time i've actually been able to achieve it, i could've achieved a cultural or military win waay the heck before; it seems it's only by actually deciding to not take those other two victories that i'm able to get a tech victory...is it just my style of play or do others have a similar experience?
Make the IQ of the minors to be the average of that what you set up for the majors and not what it is at the moment.
i've noticed this too. the minor races when they appear can have an advantage over easy-difficulty major races. it sucks when the minor races get ahead and they can't be destabilized (or espionaged for that matter).
i'd love to see this. in my game, i've renamed the factions spacing guild (torian), harkonnen (drengin), corrino (altarian), ixians (yor), tleilaxu (arcean). somehow it always boils down to a scrap between me, the tleilaxu, and the spacing guild. dirty tleilaxu >:(
I note that the news items about .59 say nothing about fixing the save problem.
from the announce: + Overwriting saved games from previous version had problems now fixed. nebuchad: the number/type of ships can be nearly irrelevant if the attack/defense bonuses for one side completely overwhelm the other. what this represents is technological superiority. it's all about research, you could research the appropriate ship-types or you can go
maybe a little frivolous, but a couple of cosmetic things: 1) the ability to choose your color/icon/logo. 2) the ability to choose your spriteset (for ships).
i've seen this posted elsewhere, but i figure a confirmation couldn't hurt: on 1.04.58 when i tried to destroy a system with a terror star, i get a ctd.
