I can't believe Ray doesn't have a black shield after writing the book on maso, I wonder how it's averaged... Anyway, I think we should start a petition for Ray to get a former #1 medal.... I don't think it's fair for him to have to climb back up the ladder considering he did hold #1 for quite a while. Didn't we have a thread on former #1's a while ago... perhaps we could submit that to Stardock in hopes of honoring our champions (particularly Ray).... with the exception of J

Jaws - Great work! Wombat -- If you ever get sick of the whole doctor thing, maybe you can consider a career in publishing. ;) My game is still not in my overlord totals - I'll have to see what happens after my next game. - Cypher

Since I'm apparently the only one on the day shift in this timezone, I'll post to move this thread up.... I submitted a game this morning and while it's in my profile, it is not in the overlord or empire rankings yet. I get an error when I try to refresh the SF score - so maybe the board is stuck and we'll remain #1 for a while. LOL I noticed a couple of interesting things as well - I got a neutral alignment ranking even though my alignment was less than 50 - I killed some w

I would vote for large being the harder than medium. The AIs are still close, but it's harder to exploit them as you can take tactical control of the map on medium with a smaller navy. Also, on my large games it seems that a major has a better chance of getting a little seperation and obtaining a significant planetary advantage. The military graph is not actually meaningful. Winning battle means getting ships where they're useful, when they're useful - and the bigger the map the lar

Actually, my useable military is quite small - maybe 2 DK and four to six frigates.... I rely on the fact that I can deploy my ships ANYWHERE on a medium map in a turn or two... if you've accumulated Mil Starbases, then the DKs can handle dreads. If the AI has anything heavier than dreads or a lot of dreads, that's where the corvettes come in. Attack the planet with a corvette (it will blow up) and use a frigate to draw the AI ships after you.... then come in with a DK and your trans

Hmmm... this medium maso talk is going to my head. I've won a couple of dozen and I can give you some suggestions if anyone is interested. I don't think it's hard, but it's a different mindset then most maso players have -- I play a military strategy and know how to win wars when I'm completely outgunnned -- which isn't as hard as it sounds. The AI will attack 1) an undefended planet or (2) an defended planet that is closest to them. -- so you actually don't have to bother defending

Let's get this back on the front page. No time to chat today -- I gotta a fun job today - doing cluster node config for a new 24 server farm... we're in sandbox mode so I get to try some really cool things out over the next few weeks.

It's been discussed -- I think that some of the techs make more sense that others. It would be nice it you evil could only use evil techs and good / good techs. I think neutrals should be able to trade for both... they need some perk. Although the rest of the game is structured to direct you toward good or evil so buy design I guess neutral doesn't need additional powers. Actually, I think the tech trading works the way it is intended. And it's harder to abuse then you'd think -- tr

Hmmm.. just finished a third game playing the univeralists - all medium masos. Haven't noticed anything that seems lucky.... I'm dying to find a Ranger. I could really have put it to good use in my last game - Medium Maso Common - the Drendin had 7 systems when I met them - everyone else had 2-3 (and my third system was a PQ 14). It was touch and go for a long time...

Special Forces Commandos picked up by the Diplomat’s Animal Control Unit On a shore leave outing to Thindor, several of the so-called elite Special Forces commandos were picked up by Animal Control. The locals mistook The Quack, a purple psychic duck, Killa Koala, Cypher Pax, a polar bear, and Emperor Wild Wombat for animals that escaped from the local zoo. The commandos had consumed too much of Thindor’s famous Torian Torandos and were unable to respond coherently to animal contr

I think cultural victory is not well-conceived for maso players. Typically, my games come down to a fight between me and the toughest AI (the one I couldn't kill easily). On a medium map, they may have only 3-4 systems - but they have a bigger military and probably a bigger economy and manufactoring. Winning at that point would seem cheesy.... The tech nerf annoys me because it seems to be a fairly difficult victory condition or a tedious one...depending on the strength of your empir
