Welcome Nand1! I FINALLY finished my game and I'm having submission problems. Hopefully, I'll get them worked out soon... -Cypher

Cari- I haven't be able to submit to the metaverse either either. I'm made three attempts. The first said it was successful, but while it did a recalc (my score adjusted up 6k) - the game was not uploaded. My second attempt resulted in a send error - though it came be the success messages. The third attempt just gave me the success message. Thank you for any help you can provide... The contents of my Debug.err file are below: Debug Message: ******* Starting Ga
Hmmm... I'm not much of a enviromentalist but I find Vincible's and Ginata's claims scientifically compelling. As a software architect with a graduate CS degree I have two primarily responsibilities: 1. Model real world entities into mathematical / systematic contracts that can be translated into software. 2. Identify patterns, probablities, and risks in extremely complicated computer systems. My field is more engineering, than science - but even so I think Maxtipherous
This probably sounds biased because I'm in the Special Forces, but I wanted to propose these two for veteran precisely because they have interacted with almost everyone -- they're active on most of the threads, they're active in chat - and active in community building. Ginata organized the Metajinx comic and Wombat has been very active on the fan fiction site. Their outstanding trait is that they keep everyone engaged, not just the Special Forces. We always talk about communi
Quack - Nice musical... you better be careful, it better than most of what passes for a Broadway musical these days and you might get ripped off. Cheers to the Weasel and the GoblinCookie... I'll get this round. Cypher
I saw Return of the King. Now it does remind me of Glal Civ. The Special Forces is a small band of heroes wedged between nearly insurmountable odds - gallantly holding their own against the Fellowship and Euros despite being outnumbers nearly 17:1. I mean the Fellowship can't claim to be the underdogs. You guys should have 6 times our score, not 600,000 k more... we all know how the movie ended. Maybe the Special Forces will be able to defeat the overwhelming large forces of evil
I think I'm taking this off topic, because in Lightning Alpha Strategy military is inrelevant. I know for a fact that maintaining a decent military is worth 5-10% of your score on maso. I'm played over 30 maso games and for the last 20 plus it's the only thing I'll vary.... building up in the end game doesn't seem to help. I always kill off three majors right away, kill one as I'm building, and then culture flip the remaining AI. The only other variable is how long I let the
Love the comet. It reminds me of the brigades of drop bears the legendary Killa Koala used to lead on suicidal mass driver attacks. Brings a tear to my eye, everytime...
Theoden, I have a headline for you: Fellowship suddenly feels very foolish when they suddenly realize Galactic Civilizations is a SPACE themed game. In a recent interview, Ray the Wanderer confessed 'I've know all along that this wasn't a fantasy game but I wanted to offer a support group for any those Renaissance Faire wannabees, and anyway I wanted to be all powerful and find a bunch of toadies, ahh.. I meant followers. It just goes to show that while the Fellowship is persistan
Piers, if you're looking for an assistant in the Q branch then I'm your Bundy Bear. I'd be happy to help in the brewery too if you need it... I'll be kind of busy tonight crushing some Torian slugs - but I'd be happy to sign on tomorrow. Wombat- posted my two cents in Command Center. Cheers, Cypher
Alex, I'm hoping Wombat, Ginata, Killa, Quack, and Ben won't leave, but you're welcome to join the Special Forces. We'll hopefully have more people who'll meet you criteria in the future... I'd like to hit 100 games and Jaws is close. We have a high percentage of Admirals - I know you like keeping track of that for everyone. ;) Cheers, Cypher
I'd agree that Society Score is meaningless. I've noticed that late game techs might get you 80-100 points and I've stopped chasing them. Sometimes I'm seen a boost from a high military rating, but I believe that you need to sustain a military advantage for a period of time to get it. Perhaps that same holds true for Society, which would explain the reason it doesn't seem to effect score at Maso. With the huge bonuses the AI gets, there score are going to be as high or higher even if
Kit - Great to see you back!
We have 13 overlords how much of a threat are we to the Fellowship Propanga Machine with 80 overlords? The metaverse is sort of a dull place now.... and it pretty much has been since the beta of the expansion. That's why the Special Forces were formed. We want to keep the friendships alive that have been developed here - and we are actually branching out into other game since interest this game seems to be slowing down (though hopefully the Altarian expansion will change this.) The
I'm back... didn't spend much Internet time during my vacation. I spend so much time in front of a computer at work... that I don't like to spend time in front of one out of work (at least on weekends and holidays). Despite hopes of completing a gigantic over vacation, I barely touched the computer (only checked email once in two weeks). I do have a large in progress, but I probably won't be submitting as many games until the expansion. Piers- thanks for including me in the s
Alexis or Delenne sound like names of a child with a sister names Ashlyn. I'll run them by Mrs. Pax. I also like Belinda. Paux de Deux is a mouthful, but an interesting suggestion. Mrs. Pax is home again. :D Happy Holidays, Michael
I'm never gotten a ranger in 55 games.... though I occassionally find a corvette or two. 5 in a game is lucky! I wouldn't worry about it happening often.... Cypher
Just wanted to drop you guys a line because I might not be around for a couple of the days. Mrs. Pax is in the hospital with the flu. :( They are watching her carefull because she's pregnant. So I'm sure I'm be spending my time with her the next couple of days (and then it's Christmas). A bit of good news, we got a ultrasound a little bit early (baby is going great!) and it looks like it's going to be another girl. I'd like to have a naming contest - can't promise I'll use it in r
:HOT: :CONGRAT: :SURPRISED:
Killa - Good to hear from you. I'm sorry if I've been quiet, but I am getting over a family tragedy. I traded in my Beamer for a Honda Pilot for the wife. Merry Christmas! My new wheels - my wife's 2000 Honda Civic. I think I'm having a mid-life crisis at 29. (:( Maybe I'll take my discontent out on the Torians tonight.... the BMW had to go as it wasn't a good car for Rochester winters (and it was getting old and expensive), but it's just so sad. Cypher
Theoden, As far as I can tell, it's VERY hard to get an AI to trade colony ships. Also when you trade for a ship and it's out of range - you can't do anything but move it in range. I'm in favor of the spamming starbase theory... I also wonder if the maso AI gets a range bonus.... cause I've noticed the long range colonization in my game as well. Is it possible the planet was conquered? The problem with this is that early game transports don't have much range either
Let's go GROSS! You guys still have a franchise of sorts in the Special Forces as half of us are: 1. Bastard children of Pontius 2. Still on the GROSS website. Don't forget the Pirates of the South Seas thread... Happy Raiding, Cypher
Happy Birthday Evil Steve!
I used to love the Warhammer and Battletech minatures at around 11-14. I always thought painting them was the best part... Twice a year advertisers closely monitor the amount of viewers watching each channel in order to establish advertising rates. This is done in November. So of course, the networks put all there best stuff on. Then they play mostly junk through the holidays. If fact, we're already starting to get reruns on a television season that started in September... and i
Hurley - Congrats on the Maso wins!
