Hey Ray I got this great plan to rocket our empire back to the top of the chart. All we have to do is give Staffa, Pontius, and EBZero one way tickets to some tropical island with scantilly clad women and NO COMPUTERS. Hmmm gorgot Gerakken may be around... perhaps I should not have said that... Uhhh how's that private thread coming along? ;p

One again I find myself in league with Gensta. e have the best role-playing/ story writing group in teh metaverse, why dilute that? Again I would rather be small and disctinct than a large group without character. I am willing to support alliances (but not with empires which irresponsable or against our common interest), but I think we should steer clear of mergers.

I was one of the first to purchase Moo3 off the shelf, and after putting it through its paces, I was not angry, nor did I feel cheated... I felt a great sense of loss and disappointment. MOO has been a hallmark franchise in the strategy game arena, but in the dog eat dog world of computer games, Where it costs about $2 million to produce a AAA title, there is simply no margin for error. Everyone remember the Logic Factory and thier space hit Ascendancy way back when? Well their next game

I tend to agree with Gengsta. If I had to check in a bunch of different places for different threads, then I would probably not bother. While having everything in the main thread can get a bit crowded, I have found all the content worthwhile for the most part. The only items that appeared to be dead space I just scrolled by. No fuss, no muss. I think keeping a thread going on the main board is essential for enhancing the product-- which I understand to be one of our empire goals, and also fo

"AHHhhh!" Cried the Elves as a great wild man suited entirely in green, suddenly materialized from the surrounding foliage. The leader among them raised his bow in defiance, but the Wild man was covered in blood, and bones... This in itself was terrible enough, but the look in the Green Knight's eyes was nothing short of maniacal. The Green Knight but fingered the great double headed axe he hefted with ease, and the Elven officer dropped his bow and ran. Just then in a gravelly voice he he

Ray-- I like your idea to change your empire name to the "fellowship of the ring" as you have outlined it has broader based appeal (especiialy in europe), and would make for much fun role-playing, (not that I do much of that ) Also I think it sounds a bit friendlier, makes more sense with the empire graphic, and will eliminate the few people who misinterpret the current name to have something to do with racism. Just my $.02 I had what I believe to be my first "event war

Maike-- One of the tradeoff that is often made in computer game design is realism versus play balance. Since this is a game it is generally better to err on the side of making the game more balanced/fun than being hyper realistic. I agree that it is not realistic for your own taxpayers to revolt on a new world, but I am willing to suspend disbelief on this if it would add a new layer of complexity by allowing high cultutal scores to be a semi-effective deterant to the cheesy transport rush.<b

Guys-- Thanks everyone for posting to this thread I have found the constructive exchange of ideas very useful. Ok, will try and reply to all in one mega-mail. :) Ray & Vincible-- yes one advantage an AI has in an RTS environment is that it can make thousands of minor tweaks all over the board instantaneously, and simultaneously, as it does not have to use an interface like a human does. This led to some pretty annoying things in Age of Empires as the computer could efficti

Pontius-- I agree that chess is a more simplistic environment than GalCiv. Another big difference you did not mention of course was the random factor in GlaCiv, none of which exists in Chess. Yet chess is the basis for all AI. I am well aware of what an AI is, but I am also well aware that the goal in writing a good AI is to be as human as possible. I think your programming skills may be a little dated if you think it can never exceed the sum of its conditionals. Years

Ray-- Thanks for the insightful discussion, definately some things to think about. 1) I am also suprised you have played a single title for so long. the metaverse and ranking is almost certainly what has given you the incentive-- good design on Stardock's part there. I tend to tire of games after about 3 weeks as they all seem the same to me these days. This of course has something to do with the fact that the average cost to produce a AAA title is $2 million USD. Its so

Pontius-- Thanks for your thoughts, but I am not sure I agree with you. By altering the economy you effectively are cheating at the three items that build off it-- military, social, research; aka everything that matters. By altering PQ at MASO level you are in effect applying a blanket multiplier to the cheating the AI is already doing. Now it occures to me that the +PQ Maso cheat may be a double edged sword. Correct me if I am wrong, but once a planet gets a PQ upgrade it is perm

Ray-- Thanks for your thoughts. Your position seems to be that since GalCiv does what most TBS games do, that it is ok. I on the otjer hand see the potential for this game and want it to live up to it like a few rare others have. Ultimately for me the true measure of success for a title is replay value. From what I can see I think Galciv may have a long way to go at the higher levels to keep one stimulated. I will take your word for it that you can placate hostile civs up

Galactic Civ Concerns: While I am still relatively inexpereinced, my play history and reading of this thread has lead me to some early concerns about this game. 1) One of the reasons I was attracted to Gal Civ is that while it is a 4X game, it offers paths to victory other than building up the biggest tank you can, as fast as you can, and mobbing your opponent with them. Unfortunately this appears to be a farce, as on high difficulty levels it looks like on most board

Hey Ray thanks for the strategy suggestions on my posted WOTR failures. I actually was looking for some direction but it was late, I was tired, and not being too eloquent. point on leasing well taken. ok seems starbases are not too important on higher difficulty settings. I have not learned yet exactly what types of bonuses are found in each type of debris so have not been able to optimize this to a single focused strategy. I noticed that the AIs do not tend
