Final(?) update: launching from Steam and loading a save game works as long as anti-aliasing is turned off. Setting 'run as admin' is not required. Do you wish to have me gather any more information, including possibly a save game file?

No changes until I turned off anti-aliasing (from x2) and then running the .exe directly (not as admin) rather than thru Steam - then it works... Steam launch still gets CtD on loading (any) save game, including with overlay turned off. Next I tried setting 'run as admin' on the .exe and running from Steam... and it worked! But only with anti-aliasing turned off.
Oh! There are crash files (.mdmp) left in the install directory after uninstall! I will keep one aside just in case you want to see it...
Mods? I haven't even considered mods... I've been running clean. I'll retry as admin after fully wiping and reinstall and using low graphics preset with no overlays and report back here.
I've already done all recommended troubleshooting / fix activities (update drivers, reinstall DirectX, reinstall vcredist, verify files in Steam, rename game files folder, etc.) Multiple times I have started a new game and everything is fine until I save the game and then load it, at which point the screen "generating world" comes up and runs to the end of the progress bar and crashes to desktop - no crash logger option presents itself. This is consistent.
If only there were a Mac version to test, I would be all over it.
One thing in particular dazzled me in WoM which haven't been addressed in journals much: The amount of hardcoded, unmodable stuff in game. WoM, especially when released had a lot of hardcoded routines such as the map generator generating stuff while ignoring the XML. I would really like if that will not be the case with FE. Also, as I haven't checked about mods lately, are wizard tools expected to be up for modders for testing? Hear here!&n
Disconnect from the internet completely, and re-install, I should be able to play?
That was how I read it - though I could certainly be wrong! And no, it makes little sense to me also why you would need to uninstall and then re-install with no internet connection. It might make sense if it requires you to register a serial number as part of the install process, and for some reason fails to install all the components if the registration fails - but that is th
Please arrange for more cool spell effects to be added to the game. Modders can make 100's of awesome spells but who wants to see the same effect used over and over again.
That's one really nice moddable thing that I hope becomes active and publishable in near-term upgrades: particle effects! The button is there in the workshop area, but it is another mod type that is not yet available.
When do we get to have modding??! You know - useable modding built in to the game, not a less than half functional map editor where you can't actually edit the details of triggers or restrictions, and can't add the carefully crafted tiles you've saved or... and not the cryptic 'start it in the editor, then add details in raw XML' that appears to be the current method - and presumably even that is not complete since I've not seen any mods released except for simple maps.
Thanks for taking the time to post your first impressions!

Post.
LOL - one of the reasons for forums IS being able to search for answers. [e digicons][/e]
Raider: without update? That would be the multiple previous posts about uninstalling, then re-installing without having access to the internet. No relation to the post by FrogBoy on how to make it work WITH internet access.
Well, this got really pathetic really quickly.
ROFLMAO! Started going rapidly downhill with this:
WIS is what Willpower is derived from, Raven. So, a WIS based save. And I don't know that there's no horniness modifier. I would imagine that's a calculation that would happen under the hood. It would be sort of immersion-breaking to be told
You guys don't want to know what we gave up (financially) to be able to give out the bonus quests to all users after 90 days.
You are correct, we do NOT want to know or we'd be ashamed (and grateful!)
Only thing I saw thaqt was official was from FrogBoy himself: basically try to run Impulse after installation and update to the latest release version.
Us bad boys get the girls, the jocks get our left-over airheads we don't want anyway.
Sure - but seriously, it's the GEEK CHICKS that rule! Smart AND hot? I pitty the fool, er, the jock, er... what was I saying? Sorry, just saw the post about trolling the IRC channel...
I have only ever used a custom sovereign - 15 WIS, the rest in CHA, and only the Summoning spellbook. Get all the NPCs you can, keep them with you, give everyone a Demon Sword when you can afford it (but balance with building settlements up) then Large Wood Shield then Medical Pack - upgrading to Great Scythe and Large Master Metal Shield when available. Use money from monster fights (mostly) and questing to fund initially, until your settlements are bringing you plenty of income
Sorry Adante, I was assuming that the player would choose to fail the willpower save. [e digicons]:P[/e]

Agreed - definitely a Dex based save...
Fantastic news! Thanks for the update - on top of all the extra work you all are doing!!
