Yes, I often experience the disappearing ships/terror stars as well. It's quite irritating when you suddenly get attacked by invisible enemy avatars. Not only ships, but planet graphics begin disappearing after a while too. I usually have to reboot after that to get things to appear again.
Rishara
Eh, does that mean I have to reinstall it all the way from the cd? Maybe I'll deal with that tomorrow if that's what I have to do.
Nope, it says 1.09. So how the heck do I get it to actually upgrade?
Hi, I used drengin.net to update to 1.10... Supposely. Drengin.net says I have 1.10 installed, but the game itself still says it's 1.09 on the options screen. How can I tell if I am really playing 1.10??
I'll be working on my character in the next couple of days. I'm not sure if I have the witch class typed up already. If not, I might be lazy and just go with a cleric. :)
It's a testament to all of us turn-based strategy gamers who have hungered for something decent to come out for so long. Actually, for any decent game to come out for so long. Games where you actually have to use your brain to play seem to be few and far between nowadays. I love this game! I haven't had a game hold my attention for this long (with no signs of slowing--still working up to maso) for a long while now.
Mexel, where are you getting your witch class? I wouldn't mind switching to that. I have the Swashbuckling Adventures sourcebook which has a witch class. Is that by chance where it comes from?
I was HeatherWst over there. Never posted alot, but participated in some of the games, etc. I haven't been over to the ACOL boards in ages, though we've still got a pbem SMAC game going on that's been going on forever. :) Any other ACOLers over here?
The name couslee sounds really really familiar. Did you used to hang out on ACOL? (SMAC forums?)
Well, multi-classing is different in 3E. You can only do it when you level up, so at 1st level you can't be a multi class. Though, that really works out much better, at leveling up is even across all classes and there are no race restrictions on multi-classing. Wizards aren't quite so limited at first level. You basically get all the '0 level' spells at 1st level, which are the cantrips. I don't remember off the top of my head how many you get per day. I'd be happy to help
Well, I'll definitely play. Has our potential GM ever done pbem before? Are we going to use the 3E ruleset?
Thanks! I feel like a moron now. I had to disable all of my internet security software (firewall, etc) to get it to work though. Very annoying.
Hi, I just purchased the drengin.net upgrade and downloaded the stardock software. however, I do not see the beta expansion listed anywhere. I see the corporate machine, stellar frontier and lightweight ninja (and see that my galciv copy is installed). This is driving me nuts. Must play expansion...
Well, the pace of the game is really dictated by the GM. If you have a competent GM, they don't wait around for all the slow-pokes to bother posting. In the pbems I run I generally post every couple of days, regardless of the slackers. If they miss out on something good, they miss out. :) I've got one game that's been running for almost 2 years, one that's almost a year, and then I just started 1 in June, so it's pretty new. Obviously, I'm too busy to GM anything new. :)
Yeah, I already know I'm a geek. :)
It might be worth it to work for a gaming company! I code in C++ (and some actual C too) right now. I've done perl, java (java certified) and C# too, and lots of db junk though I really prefer C++ to all of the others. Perl's just ugly, but we just use that for writing testing scripts, so I don't have to deal with it too much.
I'm a programmer/developer. Nothing fun like programming computer games though. :( CariElf, what language did you guys use for Galciv?
I'm going on a vacation next week, so I probably won't get a chance to get any more game playing in for a couple weeks. (much to my dismay!) I hope that we're number one by the time I get back. ;)
I got hooked with Atari and Zork way back when I was a child, and I haven't looked back since. :) I do usually get weird looks at work when talking about gaming (from the other gals), and I work in IT. Games like Galciv are good food for the brain.
Well, an empire with one or two people in it isn't very much fun. :notsure: I suppose by the swiftness that this thread is sinking to the bottom of the board that there really aren't many (any?) women reading these forums!!!
Ack, that reminded me of the effect of the bad poetry from the Vogons (sp?) in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. We will not succumb to the horror!
I don't think there are ENOUGH females playing this game to start up an all-female empire. But hey, if there are, shout out here! :) As for MWC, the empire looked like it had a nice group of people, and they needed a feminine touch interjected into them. ;)
Just submitted a military conquest tonight. Thought I'd try something different and lay evil instead of good. It was more difficult. Everyone hated me and they voted to only allow one trade route. But, I won anyway. Tim, I'm also working my way up through difficulties and map sizes. I'm trying to see if we can get some more girls to join up with our empire. :)
Seems like the forums (and empires) are dominated by men. Wondering if there were any other females floating around. If there are, come join the MWC empire. :-D
