This reviewer sounds like he's airing his sour grapes because he didn't know how to play the game. It is absolutely possible to win by means other than war. In fact, if I don't turn off culture victory, I'll always win by that means without even trying. Alliance victory is also quite easy. As for the AI magically getting 2 ships, did he see if the AI had more than 1 planet in the system? Of course in that case they could produce two ships in one turn. I've never seen them get more than one

Well, I play maso, so there always seems to be one bastard AI that has a million more techs than me. I can usually stay above the rest. I'll have to play with it some more and see what happens...

I really don't have much time to play during the week. I'll try to get a couple good games in over the weekend. I noticed that culture flipping seems far far easier in the latest version. i don't know what they did, but I was flipping planets without even trying. It was kinda weird. I don't mind it when the AIs go after the TGs, since they're way more willing to sell them to you! :)

You can always use the 'gift them 1 influence point every few turns' trick to keep them off your back. The only thing is that you have to *really* pay attention to the relations screen. If it gets to hostile, you know you're in trouble. I usually also always get trade routes to the ones who hate me the most ASAP. That will improve relations quite a bit. Plus, the alignments really do make a difference. When I play my evil games, all the good races hate me no matter what I do. I don't noti

Well, I sure didn't vote for the current war-mongerer, that's for sure, and I sure won't vote for him in the re-election either. Unfortunately, I think a female president would be subject to chauvanism here too. :(

I just wish that more women didn't think it was weird to play strategy games. :) Though, I work in an almost all-male environment, so at least I have others to talk about games to. (programmer)

I always get shocked as hell when the AI offers me one of the battleship, dreadnought, etc techs for something I feel is 'minor'. Happens occasionally though. Otherwise, I can usually get them from a minor fairly easily. I just get too bored with the game to play out gigantic maps. I don't really like anything above large, though I haven't tried a large maso yet.

I seem to have the same missing excalibur problem that's been reported. However, it doesn't appear to be related to the bonus pack? I still have AMMs (which someone else mentioned they didn't have any more either). I didn't really notice because I rarely play the game that far out anyway, but the last game I played I did.

No, I've never seen it done actually, besides the GM taking over when the player is slacking. Kind of an interesting idea, but I think it would be hard to implement correctly, since posting styles vary so greatly. I'm currently playing a small maso. I was getting eaten alive by Torian influence until the Fundamentalists showed up and took their closest planet. :) Now I should be fine. I'll just move my way up to large. I've never liked the maps above large on any level (they

Sorry, I told Mexel I would lurk for the time being. I'll try to join it in a bit, but I got swamped at work and other real life crap. I even went over a week without a galciv game! But ha, I won a damn maso game last night. Everyone is right, tiny/rare/maso is pretty easy. (I was trying to play on a large map the last time I attempted it) I've got a vacation in a couple weeks, and then I'll see where I am time wise after that and where the game is. I actually can't post
