It might be cool if they implemented something like Civ3 has, where your relations go to hell if you start back-stabbing your allies. So, you might get away with it once or twice but after that nobody would ally with you (or your current allies would break their alliances with you based on your devious behavior)

Ah, I never knew about that 0 turn/ 1 turn exploit. Actually, I've never heard of alot of the exploits people seem to employ (I don't wander over to the strategy forum very often). I still don't know what the 'unbreakable alliance' problem is that I've seen mentioned elsewhere.

Well, I managed a tiny maso tonight without any problems, so I guess that one must have been a fluke. I generally get way far ahead in tech and do buy most of my early game military from the AI. (since I can't get money for the tech, I figure I'll get something) That generally keeps my military rating decent enough to keep them happy with me. I've only noticed that I can sell to tech to the Alexians and any of the AI that randomly spawn later in the game. Sometimes I can s

I never said maso was a cheap ticket... I just thought it was odd I was having such trouble with the game I started. Maso's always been challenging to me in the beginning game, but once I can get trade and a military going, I usually do okay. I still lose the occasional game, but this one was just strange. I mean the Torians pretty much hated me from turn 1, so what could I do? (incidentally, the other AIs were fine with me) I'm sorry, but crippling was waaaaay too easy for me. So

So unless you're powerful, you can't improve relations? But when you are powerful, you don't need to improve relations? (at least in my experience) Once I get my military built up and trade going, the AIs generally love me.... But now I can't get to that point... Well, you know how far behind the human player is at the start of any maso game.

Yes, this was fixed in 1.2, which is a good thing. However, I don't seem to be able to give the AI's ANYTHING to make them like me now. I can offer all my money, all my tech, *all* my IP, a hoard of ships, and they don't care. My relations just won't improve. It seems that this got 'fixed' by not allowing gifting at all? Has anyone else noticed this? I'm only at the beginning of my first maso 1.12 game, though I do have the diplo translators, so I think that I should be able to do

I don't think people migrated to maso necesssarily for the points boost. I was at the point where crippling was boring to me because it was too easy, so I *had* to move up to maso to keep the game interesting. I think alot of people probably reached that point as well. It took me a while to get the hang of maso--I got my butt whupped the first handful of games I played (I had gotten too dependent on the tech for cash in the lower levels), but now I can't imagine going back to the lower levels

I like to use TSs in the very end game to end the boredom of the end game. Ginata-I have had several games where I was flipping planets left and right without trying then a few others where I couldn't flip anything to save my life. It's very strange. Maybe more weight is given to the empire's actual influence % than before? I'm not sure.

Ummm, on the higher levels I've noticed they definitely DO care if you build a culture starbase, regardless of if you have a colony or not. It actually annoys me, because I had a major come take over a minor's planet then yell at me for the cultural starbases I had--in MY SECTOR!

Maybe. Who knows, maybe she'll stay there... Though she did say she was 'retiring' and obviously that didn't happen. Nobody can hope to catch up to someone who can crank a zillion 60000 point games out a day. I still don't see where the time comes from. But Mayito, it's not really fair for you to complain about her. You're a hopper too.

Frankly, I'm really sick of Cotal/Amidala/whatever her name is this week's stupid hopping around. I don't think I'd really want her in my empire, since she's guaranteed to leave it in like 2 days anyway. I think I was just on drugs about my score not updating. Everyone who was around me must have submitted around the same time strangely enough so we all stayed around the same place. (I checked on MWC's site for our Monday weekly activity report to see what my old score was)
