Izzee: If it comes up every time you change skin then you are trying to apply a per pixel skin. What is the name of the skin you are trying to apply?
Neil Banfield
#145, The free upgrade is provided to people who purchased it from 1st September 2005. Before that its a $15 upgrade fee.
It seems it may take a few hours for all the accounts to be updated and e-mails to be sent.
Izzee: The one at bootup is to remind you that you are using the shareware build and how many days you have left. Its called a nag screen for a reason! How many times do you reboot if its causing such an annoyance? The purpose of the shareware version is to give you a taste of the application and then for you to purchase it if you like it.
dscroggie: Use https://www.stardock.com/support.asp and enter your details and you should get sent the latest links along with your serial number.
There are 2 different popups. One says in plain text that the per pixel in this skin is not supported in the shareware version. The 2nd (which appears at bootup) has the price & a list of features. So if you keep on getting the per pixel popup then its because you are trying to use a skin which is a per pixel skin, but is not one of the permitted ones in WB5 shareware.
Mr Shmoe: If you open up the WB directory, do you have a file called skins.mdb there? What size is it?
c242: transparency is not left out of the shareware version. We include Aura, 5imple Alpha, Cyclops & DogMax4 which all support transparency in WB5 shareware, we just don't support it on downloaded skins.
Stardock have not yet released the enhanced standalone build. This should be released later today. Once it is released you can use the Stardock support page for looking up your serial numbers & it will send you new links.
darkboo: No, the 4.6 version if you read the EULA states you may use it for 30 days after which you should purchase it.
mulcifer: are you sure it is installed in the same directory as your WB skins are? Denon36: Those who get a free upgrade will be given access to that later today. Don't worry!
If you are using Minimize to tray on a per pixel skin then this is not supported. It should work fine with non per pixel skins though.
What happens if you run wbconfig instead?
darkboo: You were only allowed to use the 4.6 shareware version for 30 days, we just didn't enforce that limit - though a few features did get disabled after 30 days. If you like the software then please help support development & purchase it. If everyone uses the shareware version & never pay for it then why would Stardock make new versions?
The shareware version can be downloaded from download.com The registered version can be downloaded from Stardock after paying $20 for WB, or $49.95 for an OD subscription.
In the shareware version they do not support per pixel, hence they are using the maxbordercut features. For non perpixel skins the maxbordercut values would have to be set to the correct number of pixels.
Koasati: We are talking about non per pixel skins. Per pixel do not & will not support this. me me2: 1) this is not an issue with per pixel skins like Arrow & VistaXP as WB automatically clips the entire borders on maximize. Some people like Koasati actually dislike this, thus proving you can't make everyone happy! 2) if the borders are larger than 4 pixels then the max border cut values have to be set to however much should be cut off or only 4 pixels
The shareware version of WB5 was not supposed to go up on CNet until later in the day.
It would be unwise to continue discussing warez and cracking here. As we have said before, it will be released on the 29th. We did not say exactly when on the 29th and certainly nobody said it would be out at 12am!
The Aura, 5imple Alpha, Cyclops & DogMax skins should all support per pixel alpha in the shareware version. No other skins do. There is a huge nag which comes up to tell you this when you apply another per pixel alpha skin.
Looks like the skins have set the maxbordercut values to 0. This stops any border from going outside of the screen. If you open the skin uis file & look for MaxBorderCut then you should be able to remove those settings & reapply the skin & all should be as you like.
We used to allow upgrades from the shareware to enhanced without another download, but piracy was a real problem.
If you purchased it today then yes you will be able to get 5.0 for free once we put it up.
You can activate by sending information to Stardock via e-mail who will reply with a file you need to copy to your computer. So you can copy that file to that PC and it will be activated.
Those who have purchased WB and qualify for the free upgrade to WB5 will get their link later today. Please remember the time where you are makes no difference. Stardock are GMT-5 and obviously all dates & times are based on that timezone. It is not possible to enter a serial to change the shareware build into a registered build.
