Okay, Koasati, just to let you know, I know have PSP8 being skinned using a specific skin different than the "general" skin I am using system wide. My problem was not reading the labels (hard to imagine, really, isn't it?) I had a specific skin chosen but I also had the application totally excluded. I was approaching this bottom up ie. don't skin this app with general skin but use the skin I have specified. All logic and reason dictate that the options are top down as in skin this application us

China Cat, that is brilliant. If you have the time, could you please tell me how to do that? (I am still hurting from having to retype my entire reply when I tried to refer to another thread). Hmmm, it isn't the little icon underneath the smilies. One of these days I am going to press the button that ejects me from my desk chair through the roof of the house. I just GOTTA stop pressing icons.
The thread I am referring to is in Help and is called Excluding an App from Skinning by Michael Gallaher. [Message Edited]. Not really editd at all. Just pressed the icon to see what would happen. I really have to stop doing these things. [Message Edited]
Koasati, I think that I have solved it for me. Another post (Michael Gallaher--I tried to find out where but then lost my entire reply and am now retyping it--gosh darn it I am message board challenged!) had same question and I believe Essencay pointed out that excluded apps had Windows Classic applied to them. I tweaked the appearance of Windows Classic a bit and am quite happy with the result. Not sure why I can't get it to use specified skin but maybe I should stop while I am relatively happy
My apologies for my "unthreaded" second message. I did think I was adding it to the thread (sigh). Sure hope this one is inline! Koasati, sometimes the skins I use make the working window of PSP too dark (such as Rogue Proton) . I like it nice and light. I do have the "total exclusion" box checkmarked. I have also tried telling WB to use a specified (light) skin for PSP such as Ivory by Treetog but no joy. No great mystery that I can't figure this out if I can't even
I have tried to disable an Application from being skinned but it is being skinned anyway. Can anyone advise me?
Thanks, I am using WB 4 and I was trying to use a skin that did come with compact. Didn't work but it did finally work on another one. So, will go back and try them all again!
Figured out question #1--I read the read me file. Now wasn't that intelligent? Will work somemore on #2!
Hmmm, I seem to have a slow learning curve. More like flat line! I have two questions: 1) how do I know what version of Windowblinds I have? There is no "program" per se ie there is the desktop properties route to use a skin adn the advanced configuration route but neither tells me my version. 2) I can't seem to get any compact versions of skins to work. I still get a full menu. Obviously, I am thinking that that might have something to do with my version of windowblinds. Can anyone
Thanks all. I understood, of course, that no further comment could be added but was uncertain why it (the thread) remained posted or at what point it was decided to lock it. Have little experience with message boards (vs. newsgroups) and have noticed that things do stay posted for a long time. I am unsure of the principle upon which posts "sink to the bottom". Any further enlightenment is appreciated.
Can someone please advise me what a locked thread means?
I read this board all the time--I always need help!
Rich, I have the new wall, it got a (yeah!) in my review. I would absolutely love to try a skin but it will be a very long time before I have any hope of achieving anything. Supremely ignorant. Do feel that there is a potential underdeveloped "niche" which has some contributors already (essorant is notable here)for skins that feel (oh, how I struggle for the correct words!) more artistic and less technical. By the latter I don't mean technically perfect but rather skins that lean more to natural
Okay, reloaded Solace in Blue and here it goes! 1. Buttons are nicely segregated, easy to see, easy to push 2. Colour makes it easy to find matching icons (I am using SnowE)and cursors (Using Pix Office which isn't a dead on match but close enough and I like the set) 3. Font is black and plain (Yeah!)It is white on Title Bars but still plain enough to be legible. I can live with that. 4. Wallpaper is included (Yeah!) The only negative: 5. No userpic (Boo! For the technica
David, Thank you for the list of adjectives--I cannot imagine the "kewl" ever leaving my keyboard (hee hee hee) much less my lips; however, what I really meant was comments aside from the aesthetic. Have you seen GrimReaper's thread on creating good skins? He is of the view that skins are more than just pretty. From my point of view, some skins seem to be not just easy on the eye and reflective of mood but very easy to use. For me, in example, I love caption buttons that are very disti
Not sure if I shouldn't be posting this somewhere at Stardock but here goes anyway. Just wondering when and if they ever change the Stardock Skincast? I do like iSkin but I thought that it would feature different skins from time to time and all I ever seem to get is iSkin. Is this operator error?
Have not been around long enough to figure out who is "old and venerable" etcetera but thought I would add my 1Cent (a newbie and Canadian so currency deflated). 1. Re Comments: I often do not comment right away as I need to run the skin for some time before I even feel entitled to say something. Also, am lacking in meaningful commentary because of total lack of knowledge. Not sure if "gee, this is really nice" is appreciated or not! I have been trying to go back to those authors whose works
DaWebMassa, thank you and thank you for skin! It really is lovely (have to hone up on lingo as I am sure that there is more appropriate compliments than "stunning" and "lovely" but a non-techie newbie so still not sure what makes a skin so pleasing. Shades of "I don't know art but know what I like"!) I am slowly noticing features, attributes etcetera that make me keep a skin just that little longer on my desktop but haven't been doing it long enough to be able to express it yet. Let's leave it a
I ended up using the resize on the right click--something I had forgotten even existed. For a short while, my OE was maximized with no dimples apparent and no change of cursor shape no matter where I ran it along the borders of the window. Right click and resize did it and now, voila, I have dimples again. Thanks for the response. Wasn't sure if it was WB or a program I run with OE (Quote-fix) or MSStyles or what! Not so easy to troubleshoot these days as everything seems to be intertwined with
Yes, that is exactly what the 5th button does. I couldn't figure it out because I never have more than one thing on my screen at any given time. Thanks, guys!
I like it a lot. I will check out your theory! But I am from very very very very old DOS days--I can hardly stand to have more than one application running at a time much less minimized. Would probably make me insane to have it not just rolled up but also on top! Old dog, new tricks. But, hey, the new tricks sure are aesthetically pleasing!
I use OE for newsgroups and noticed that I have lost the "dimples" to resize on the bottom right corner. Is this an effect of using skins? My apologies if this is woefully ignorant and TIA to anyone who can enlighten me.
Ahem, a newbie (still). Downloaded WB "Solace in Blue" which I like a lot. Asked in the comments section but no response so thought I would try my luck here. On these blinds there is a "fifth" button. There is the expected roll-up, minimize, maximize and close, all of which are pretty darn self-explanatory even from the graphics. But to the far left of them is a little circle with a dot inside. On some windows, this icon has a diagonal red "not available" slash through it. On others it does not.
Thank you! Now I can stop looking for this feature! Still think it is strange that I can rate at all--but even stranger that I can rate and not see the ratings!
Yrag, I hate to seem like a complete and total idiot (don't mind total or complete but complete and total seems so harsh!) but when I click on Comments, I get Comments. I tried a few WBs and Wallpapers to see if the ratings were buried in the Comments but the exceedingly few I see within Comments themselves are not real ratings ie. I give this 20 out of 10. This is inputted text from someone, obviously. I have scrolled to the end of the Comments to see if there is something there. Nada
