The Documents/My Games/GC2TwilightArnor folder has a pre-generated Gfx subfolder, suggesting the ability to add and/or replace textures without using mods (which break Metaverse compatibility) or replacing in-game files. I suppose though it's there mainly for customizing civilizations, which don't need mods to work. Music apparently works the exact same way: I've been able to switch vanilla tracks with GalCiv3 music by creating Music and Event Music subfolders and adding MP3 files nam

I've once tried playing the Dread Lords scenario with the Community Update mod v6.2.4. For some reason ALL other factions, including the Dread Lords themselves, did not build any ships, allowing me to cheese that game. Using some espionage, I've found that all forms of output on their planets are zero, as if the AI was not spending on production at all. Below is the screenshot of such a planet (click to maximize, 1080p). For some reason the starport is halfway done, so maybe the bug didn't tr

I haven't really played GalCiv2 in a while, but I don't recall any performance issues on my laptop. Again, the CPU is more than powerful for GalCiv2 anyway, I'm certain it have no issues running GalCiv4, even though I don't have that game. UPD: As for the playlist, searching through the forum revealed that the feature has been scrapped .

The preferences file for GalCiv2 has a bunch of cryptic settings. For instance, the Initialization section has "HyperthreadEnhancement", "ThreadedInitialLoading" and "ForceTextureUpdate" settings, set by default to 0, while the Sound section has "UserDefinedPlayList", "CurrPlayListDir", "CurrentPlayList" and "CurrPlayListPos", set respectively to "0", "PlayList", empty and "0". None of these settings are reflected in the in-game options window, and I can only guess what exactly does each one

I agree with the Star Control: Origins comparison — such an art style works fine there, but not in Sins. At the very least, is it possible to make the ships have a proper metal look and feel instead of what is often described as “plastic”? Still, I am more concerned about gameplay than about graphics — these can always be modified with a mod. Just take a look at Sins Remastered.

There is no indication that Sins 2 would be made available for consoles. “Platforms” might actually refer to store fronts instead: Epic Games Store, Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Good Old Games etc. All of them are available for PCs (even the Xbox Game Pass, despite its name), or Windows more specifically (I wonder how will it run on Linux under Wine or its Steam fork, Proton).
In any case, I *am* curious whether there are any balance patches anywhere at all that strictly attend to balance and nothing else. Are there no other AI improvement mods anywhere for Vanilla?
Ultimate Balance Mod by Zabik2 et. al. features drastic balance improvements that cardinally affect AI's behavior. In fact, a separate multiplayer version with n

Is it possible to purchase planets from the AI again? I've found this quite unfair in GalCiv2 v2.20 (based off an earlier Community Update version). I recall that the intent was to prevent abusing this ability, but I also remember myself not succeeding in GalCiv3 at buying a worse planet from a friendly faction in exchange for a much better world I had conquered from a minor faction. I wonder if GalCiv2 allows to fine-tune the trade value of planets...

Any idea why I can’t download the mod (and the bugfixes) at the given links? It gives me a Cloudflare’s Error 1020 / Access Denied every time I try.
I bought the game many many years ago (early 2000's) on CD, the Dread Lords version, and play it off an on. In fact I just came to this forum right from playing a session, the Terran Alliance. I love playing it when I can. I have been wanting to make my own maps for the game. I don't know, I thought I remember seeing something in the text or manual about a map editor once, or maybe I am confusing it with another game

I've got this gem for free on Humble Bundle back in 2018, and it quickly became my favorite. I think I've scored a couple hundred hours on GalCiv2 (more than for GalCiv3), though that isn't reflected in my Steam account because I've originally installed it with a standalone installer. Even after playing GC3 it's fine sometimes to return back to its predecessor, especially considering the some features which were lost in the newer title. Recently, one of my friends became interested in

Oh, and continuing my faction music subtopic, I would like to have combat themes more varied, as the Terran war theme used in this role for majority of factions may quickly get old. For specific combat tracks, I would like to point to the unused GC3_Drengin_War.2.mp3 file (an alternate Drengin war theme I've heard in the combat beta test video by IGN) and suggest using a track borrowed or derived from Star Control: Origins for its respective DLC races. And of course, please fix typos in the m

Now that we’re talking about custom civilizations, is there a way to have them configurable to a larger degree? At the very least, I would like to be able to select music for the faction without resorting to mods, which would block multiplayer. By the way, are there improvements being planned for multiplayer? Though I’ve tested it long time ago, I’ve found multiplayer mode still far away from stably working. I don’t know how much has it been fixed between 3.7 a
