Basic Idea : Leaning heavily on observations of contemporary naval activities, the idea is that certain types of severe damage require the ship to go back to the shipyard for extensive repairs. In order to balance the Titan without nerfing its combat prowess, I propose that we introduce some way for Titans to sustain damage that simply cannot be repaired without paying a visit to a Titan Foundry (the shipyard that creates Titans).
My idea wasn't to nessasarily enable the player to be able to build the other races ships; but to use the captured factories to build your own ships. My main point was that if you could capture and use factories in enemy sectors it would make the whole battle over a sector more interesting and possibly turn the tide of war in your favor or against you if the AI or opponet could do the same. One of the main reasons I

Allowing Ogrovs to hit Titans would defeat the purpose of Titans completely. They'd basically just be a starbase that can phase jump, with no greater or lesser survivability than the units we got years ago in Entrenchment. And if you're the Advent, you already have starbases that can move (albeit not phase jump), so it's even more of a yawner. Titans are meant to be downright durable, which they are for the most part (unless fighting another Titan). They're tough as na

How would it split the community in two if the official version of the binary comes with LAA Enabled? Your logic doesn't make sense. You seem to be suggesting that only half the people would receive or use the version with LAA enabled. I don't understand how that's possible, if every

So, not to jump on the necro thread bandwagon or anything, but... did the developers ever provide a reason why they can't just ship the game with the LAA flag on? Most people who are serious about large maps or mods are going to enable it anyway, but a certain minority are either unaware of the problem (or how to fix it) or deem themselves too technically inept to even try. 64-bit is more of a pipe dream right now (maybe for Sins 2), but LAA is not that unrea

I played with a few random AI behavoirs though, so it may just be the Fortifier AI that does this. Anyway, my game turned into a gigantic Novalith armageddon after an hour or two. I was forced to put up starbases at almost all of my planets so I wouldn't lose them. Pretty annoying for sure.
Forced? To build Starbases? [e dig
Being able to capture enemy ship building units that are not of your own (sub)faction would become game breaking. Building ships that are not of your faction would put other players at a tremendous disadvantage since you can produce ships for your fleet (that are not of your faction) reliably. I feel as though one should only acquire ships not of their own faction by boarding the ship one so desires. If anything, an enemy Frigate Factory s

It works for TEC, but not the rest. Maybe make it so that the explosion has to go through shields first, but it can "strip off" a significant portion of shield mitigation, thus making shields go down easier to the damage points dealt? What I'm saying is, it should basically rip r
I think the titans should also severely damage near by ships when destroyed as well, a fitting end for them.
Oh man, this. Just imagine the energy needed to operate one of these ships: it's got an incredible amount of mass (from the looks of it, it's heavier than an Argonev Starbase), and it manages to propel that mass at amazing speeds; it's almost as maneuverable as a capship! Anything with that much power has

Give them a survivability ability that you can research, maybe something like "Evasive Maneuvers" where they have a 10% chance to shrug off each attack volley. That'll make them more like a persistent swarm of killer bees, rather than a swarm of gnats. I don't think Corvettes should be anti-Titan. Just let the anti-module ships fire at Titans, with a chance for the titan to evade their shots (i.e. the shots would be far less effective against a Titan than an immobile Starbase,

Could it be an engine limit on polygon count or ship count or effects count, or something similar? I warped in a fleet of 6 capital ships (3 Dunovs, an Akkan, a Kol and the new one, forget the name), my Loyalist Titan, and 6 Raloz Constructors into an extremely well-defended enemy grav well. The enemy had a Loyalist Titan, 5 to 7 capital ships, a large number of trade and refinery ships, tons of phase-cloaked mines, a starbase, about 15 squadrons of fighters, 30 to 40 combat frigates/

My thanks to IC and stardock for doing another exp!!! :) I can already hear the gears turning in modders' heads, hehe... "Are we going to make the Battlestars into Titans?" "Are we going to make the ISDs into Titans?" "Are we going to make the Scimitar into a Titan?" "Rebels are PERFECT for the Galactic Civil War!" My idea (or shall we say, dream :)) of a Titan is basically the idea of infinite (or near infinite) forward momentum, like a snowball rolling down an infinitely lar

IMHO all future Stardock/IC games should come with a 64-bit build. We have seen over and over and over that 4X strategy games have a sprawling nature to their data set that is very difficult to contain within the virtual address space of a 32-bit process, at least as far as Stardock's implementations have shown. Couple that with some kind of high performance on-disk database for caching less often used objects/data, and you should form the technical foundation for the future of Stardock/Ironc

I really, really, really, love the gameplay, performance and stability enhancements in Elemental 1.1. That said, I am really, really, really disappointed that I've been harping about the Large Address Aware (LAA) flag for 3-4 years for every single game you guys have released, and you have stalwartly refused to enable it, without so much as providing a justification for why you cannot enable it by default in your builds. So tell me: why in G

Basically, the way I see it is: 1. Make a 64-bit version of your games, if you can. 2. If that's too expensive, at least turn on the Large Address Aware bit, so that people with the /3GB switch enabled or running a 64-bit OS can take advantage of 3 or 4 GB of virtual address space, respectively. I wrote a console program that will turn on LAA on an arbitrary program from the command line; I have tested it extensively with SOASE, Elemental and GalCiv 2, an

harpo, how does anything you said contradict what I wrote? Using caps and big fonts doesn't seem to make your argument more valid. Here is your argument, summed up, if I interpreted it correctly: (1) You don't like the way I'm using the terminology "virtual memory" and would rather that I call it "application data space". If you read my post, you'll find that I call the system-level virtual-to-physical mapping "virtual memory", and I call the "application data space" the "virt
