Monteis - I use photoshop almost exclusively. :CONGRAT:
Tiggz
doh! pardon my beg
:SURPRISED: :SNIFF!:
do you have windowblinds version 4.4?
yay Bones
...funny you should mention this idea, because I have something quite similar in development atm, basically an extension of the substyle changing widget I made for GT3
you might need to reboot before the custom throbber is changed - or possibly just restarting the explorer process may do the trick
Yeah, I've seen that spam repeated in a few posts in the new forums/articles. It looks like some kind of automated bot possibly.
I guess branding can be achieved in a number of different ways: 1. overall graphic integrity of the skin, how the whole skin pulls together, the impression it leaves in the users mind 2. colour branding - something like CopperdeckII springs to mind 3. motifs repeated throughout the skin, but not necessarily strong enough images to be considered... 4. logos, such as in the top right of the GT3 start menu 5. skin name in plain text <B
I used to to drink Guiness back in the olden times but these days it's just water, OJ or lashings of tea
yes, I use it all the time when unwelcome guests come knocking on my door...o...I see what you mean
another thing to look out for is that whatever your chosen method of creating your shapes - whether you use the shape tool, or selection tool, or convert a path to a selection - is to check in that tools options that it has the antialiasing box checked. This box can usually be found in the context sensitive toolbar along the top of the app beneath the menubar.
yikes! :SURPRISED:
I use photoshop and have quite a good trick for anti-aliasing jagged edges. I normally use masks alot rather than areas of colour, as it makes it easier to change the colour at will, and the anti-aliasing tip is to do with smoothing out the edges of the mask. Unlink the mask from the layer and, making sure the mask is selected and not the actual layer, apply a gaussian blur, anywhere from 1 or 2 pixels to 4 or more (if you want to round off some corner
The most important thing, in my opinion, is to use the wallpaper for a few days before uploading it. Excellent advice - and equally applicable to any form of skinning. Many times I have stayed up all night creating something amazing, gone to bed, woken up and gone back to my pc only to discover
o my, Phoon, what have I done to you? darn, I should have put a disclaimer in the article maybe one day I would like to make a premium package, trouble is, whilst I am an ok skinner, I am a terrible businessman write anything you like Joe, er, within reason obviousl
Essencay - didn't know that. I tend to use the same image for the quicklaunch buttons but sometimes with different content margin settings. Do you mean it can stop that "half a button" effect on the expand arrow button for very rounded designs?
If you want to add vertical taskbar support and the normal start button really isn't suitable then you can always make a seperate verticl taskbar substyle
If anything, at the very the least the skinner is doing their work a disservice by not commenting on it (if it is their work of course ;)). In a similar way to Gene Nash, when I upload something I want people to at least give it a try and sometimes a screenshot alone is not enough. This is especially true of skins for desktopX which may have features that can't be expressed in a static image, but is also true of many other types of skins - windowblinds
Fair enough TasT, I wasn't having a go, just explaining my reasoning. I do tend to rationalise alot of these issues as I'm going along and so it's quite a nice outlet to be able to explain some of my thought processes occasionally :) I personally don't like branding on every single window, but, done sensitively, I can quite like it in a few key areas, such as the start menu and log off dialog. For me it can give a skin just that bit of extra i
:CONGRAT: no worries :D sorry I ignored your advice about skin names on the start panel ;)
Yes, looking forward to the release as well The substyle changer is just a little surprise feature I want to include in the windowblind upload. I won't say any more for now, although the phrase "substyle changer" does really rather give it away As to the skin name b
interesting article and thanks for the flattery of linking to my homepages (even if the actual link goes to Essorant's page, hehe)
That taskbar looks terrifc - if a little short
Well in the spirit of experimentation I decided to test out this article making facility. As I am currrently engaged, amongst other things, in creating GT3 I thought I would offer some previews of the skin suite which will (approximately) mark my 1 year skinning anniversary. :CONGRAT: So, without further ado, being a skinner not a writer, here are some samples of what is to come in the not too distant future... <img src="http://www.tiggz.btinternet.co.uk/GT3/GT3_startmenu_preview
