[quote]So far, the best I’ve done it to spell ‘Hi!’, killing just 64 billion Torians in the process. Can you do better?[/quote] Better art, or better pointless Torian killing? LOL :CONGRAT: I had fun telling the leading millitary power that I would go to war with all the minor Civs, but I'd need a few more ships... So I took all of their ships and made peace with the minors (rinse, repeat) until I had the highest military rating. Gave me some breathing room to tech prope

Well, I've just registered my game and I should have broadband in a few weeks so I'll be able to upgrade and start submitting scores. Even if they are pitiful... FUN! :D EDIT: Curious. The galactic map has the Euros in 5th place, but Top Emipres has Euros in 4th, with the two-man Empire of Orange Kitties biting at the heels of the Evil Empire... [Message Edited]
Hi all. New emperor, hu? :waves: I've gone and done something daft. Summed up in the lines: "I bought Gal Civ yesterday. I got to sleep about 4am." Fun :D Though I am already missing the "Auto-launch ships" check box :( I may remember to register at some point in the next few days too...
I would crtl-N if there were no decent planets nearby. I've seen an AI in a corner with no systems in the three sectors next to them, so they were trapped on their homeworld :/ This was on small though. couple of times I've saved when racing to get a system or two... damn demo! damner lack of money! :(
Thing is, without UTs, you can't _talk_ to other civs to trade for the techs. The only way you could get a tech with UTs as a pre-req is through an invasion (which you'll be doing alot) or through the UP resolution to share techs.
Try not to go over board "purchasing" things, especially from Mitrosoft, as that cvan very quickly eat away at your treasury, and, if your not carefull, bankrupt you very quickly in the start of the game. At leasst that was the mistake I made on my first couple of games :(
I realise its really been out for ages, but as I only found out about it due to a review in PCGamer and the demo on its cover disc :p @kryofx: Maybe the UTs only translate from any language into one language...? I think the biggest problem would be keeping up the economy and morale without any trade or many of the economic social projects :notsure: I may give it a shot again sometime once I've got the game proper.
Yeah, I was finding that it was difficult to keep my economy up. My production dropped right off too, just enough star fighters and transports to take one of the minors out of the running, then back to pumping all my resources into research to get better ships :notsure: And, yeah, I was playing on "simple" :P even then 12 years isn't long enough to win :( roll on student loan...
As I may have mentioned, I'm waiting for my finances to get a bit better before buying this game, so I'm squeezing the demo for all its worth LOL Anyhue, I was wondering how many of you have opted to not research UTs? I notice you can still vote in the UP, and you still get declarations of war in english. I think it should be possible to win, if somewhat tougher than normal (no trade, no tech whoring) but only the Alliance Victory is 100% ruled out, if I've read the Tech tree correctly.
I Was more worried about the defecting from one Empire to another... So long as I can do that without being stuck in one Empire, I'll be fine. But those Party Palace Terror Stars Pangaea have look kinda fun... *wanders off to try some halucinigens...* *...and maybe a spell-checker...* [Message Edited]
I liked that! "this beta is all the glory we get!" LOL I doubt we'll be seeing them even in the demo
Maybe If I rename one of the AI races... :notsure:
*psst* If I join another Empire, then, hypothetically, later choose, say, to defect to, for example, a certain Evil Empire... I can do that, right? If anyone asks, I was never here...
Weeeell... they were just sitting there, two lil systems, sharing a sector with two of my big systems and a SB. They only had 3 Colony ships "defending" their planets... I took over one and by the time I could get the other transport across the 5 spaces from my homeworld to theirs, they had surrendered... I didn't want to, but they were just looking SO pathetic! I felt sorry for them (:( And the lil s**ts left me with a planet with a morale of 1 that I couldn't do anyt
While we're on the topic, can I just ask: http://www.geocities.com/bob_themadcow/whatrace.jpg WTF? :SURPRISED: (put a space after the URL and hit "go") If I just shouldn't be looking in the demo's folder for images, then I apologize, and if there is some sort of plot explanation, again, sorry. But seriously: WTF? [Message Edited]
I plan on joining the EE asap, but I'm kinda strapped for cash atm. In the meantime I'm squeezing every last drop of fun from the demo LOL I squashed the Torians today on one game, then got lucky on the star placement in the next and ended up with about 10 systems, including a PQ32 :CONGRAT: planet (it was base PQ26, I took an evil option on colonising to bring it up to 27, the Soil + Invironmental Control brought it to 32) Also there was a one sector gap across the entire galaxy seper
I really like these guys' sense of humour :D And no, I didn't buy the game today :( Stupid fone bill :(
hi! :waves: Um... anyway, with the game on official retail release tomorrow, and the expansion pack being not only *free*, but also a meer _four days_ later, I think the Europeans are gonna start really moving soon. I'm personnally trying to juggle bills so I can run out and buy this game in the stores and download the x-pac all before going away to uni (and away from my net connection) on the 21st... :notsure:
How long does the CD take to ship to the UK? There is NO WAY I'm even thinking of downloading 850Mb, but I'm wondering just how much difference it makes to you guys at Stardock if I go out and buy this in the shops on Friday? I can download just the core 50Mb, is that right? Then wait for the rest of it to come by post? I'll wait a little while longer & get it shipped if it means you guys get even just $10 more in your pockets... but I REALLY hate .pdf files :( Moral d
Ooh? I can?! Cool :CONGRAT: Cause so long as they fit on a floppy I can take them into uni and submit from there, right? Or will I have to wait until _next_ summer to submit them all at once? And how come this isn't in the Metaverse Guidelines page? Frogboy, Please add this tit-bit to that page, or whereever it would be best to put it :) Or deny that that is the case...
Stupid dial-up :( +I'm heading off to uni in a couple of weeks where I wont have direct internet access. Which reminds me... Nope, it looks like I won't be able to submit scores to the metaverse anyway :sniff!: as I won't have direct access to the net :(
I tried to buy this game today only to find it's not released until 12th of sept...? (http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=1&mid=322005) I'm very confused/disappointed (:( Especially as there seems to be rather a _large_ Europian contingent on the Metaverse and at least two major PC Games mags have done reviews of Gal Civ, and had demos on the cover discs. Guess I'll just have to wait another week :notsure: Am I just the only one not to have bought this over t
