Well, for what its worth I consider it money well spent. Nothing is ever perfect and I could probably think of extra things that could have gone in but its worth it just for the campaign and new races if you ask me.
So Poincarre found a nice Mathematical set of equations but Einstein found the same equations and gave them a physical context. Sounds like credit should go to the Einsteins for the real discovery then.
That sounds good. Picking a VP with some complementary appeal would be both realistic and add an extra twist. Building the tension in the close states also sounds like a worthwhile improvement. Perhaps a candidate could spend a week at the gym in return for pumping up their stamina?
Well, its in appallingly bad taste. The artist deserves all the vitriolic criticism he'll no doubt get which I also defend the right of people to express.
How long did you give it? I have a blank screen for around 25 seconds with only a cursor before the game gets going. I'm havinf fun trying it out. Is there a special forum for submitting bug reports?
Just a brief thought - given the games 'E' rating, is it appropriate to describe the Korx as 'evil bastards'? :notsure:

OK this is slightly involved but hopefully I can explain it...it is possible to bypass the victory condition of any of the campaign levels and move onto the next mission if you do the following: When the mission starts up, click on all the done buttons and then retire before the first turn is complete, then click on go to next mission which will restart you on your current mission. This time follow the same procedure but before the first turn completes click on the return to main menu o
Noooo! I have a morbid fear of responsibility! :SURPRISED: but we do need a thread in the empire forum
Personally I found a real jump in difficulty just onto the second scenario. The Korx wipe me out before I can produce strong enough defending ships let alone set up the trading routes. They somehow manage to race ahead on the weapons technology and are pounding me with frigates when I've just managed to produce corvettes. [Message Edited]
It also seems to flicker and disappear across the screen.
I get the same flickering and jumping across the screen as I try to drag the loader. It always appears half out of the screen too.
Red. No not really its a deep deep blue :)
when you click campaign on the main menu there should be a small "reset" button in the lower right hand corner, this will allow you to load autosave and in game saves (campaign save games have their own save-game folder)
Aha! Yep. That works. Perhaps 'reset' needs a more intuitive name like 'load campaign' since at least 2 of us misunderstood it.
I just beat the second mission of the campaign, and i exited to the main menu after the third one had just loaded up. When I went back to continue, it did not recognize that I had beaten mission 2 and i started back up on an autosave about 10 turns before I had won. I would send in a saved game, but I don't seem to be able to save either
At least you get autosaves! :) My game doesn't produce them so if I crash mid-scenario I have to start from the beginning of the mission
I have installed SmartException from Dregin but dont see how to use it. Is there some documentation? I can find debugg.err files after a CTD..do I need to start up SmartException before I run Galciv?
Me too. I got a CTD and when I restarted the campaign I was back at the start of the mission not where it crashed. Loading the autosave from the menu gave me an old game.
Just a note on the campaign. Its seems a little strange that you start researching from scratch again in each campaign scenario since these are meant to follow each other chronologically. However, I can see why it might be important for the gameplay aspects.
I got that when I played out a previously saved game even in the new version. However, when I managed to force the game to start from scratch then the victory condition was recognised and allowed me to move on to the next campaign scenario. [Message Edited]
I just played that new campaign on the beta. I had this weird thing where Battleships were not being allowed to enter any sectors where I did not have a colony. Frigates and Combat Transports were able to though.
Yeah, I get the same thing. Battleships seem to be very limited in range and you need to research range technologies to get them near the enemy planets.
I have it running fine on my 2.4GHz P4 with 512 MB. However, 1) I cant see how to change planet quality. 2) I cant scroll down either the left or right hand side frames so I can only access the Korx and Drath ship list via the menu. 3) If I try to put two stars next to each other I get a pop-up with "An unspecified error occurred" rather than something more informative. Had fun playing the first campaign scenario. :)However, although I succesfully completed it the pop up description just before metaverse submission said "Military Defeat" and only gave me 83 meta-points.
I had this problem too, so I deleted all my save games under old versions and now things save and reload fine.
Not sure if its a bug but.....are trade routes hard wire limited to 10? Despite researching several techs late in my most recent game and a UP vote to increase the number immediately available by 2, I wasn't allowed to form any more trade routes when my freighters arrived :(
I admit to panicking for a moment too but its an interesting historical note to dredge up for us relative newbies. :)
